After spending over $6,000 repairing my granddaughters Volvo at this shop over the past 3 years, on my last visit the car failed inspection. The reason written was the side passenger mirror was not functioning. The cause was a broken turn signal in the mirror. After searching for a used mirror and having it installed, I returned to have my car reinspected. 8 weeks had gone by. This time I was told the car failed inspection due to the license plate light being out and a small dig on one tire (which was there during the first inspection). When I questioned Rob he became quickly agitated, defensive and ranted unprofessionally! Wow! stay away! after agreeing to work on my car, and spending $350 to have it towed to them, they refused to even look at it, and do a simple battery reset.. now I'm stuck with no car, it needs the battery charged, which they won't do, and the key fob reset, which takes 10 minutes. when I called them they were very positive about doing the job. Had my front brakes done. The have squealed ever since. Had new tires put on. They ruined one of the tire pressure sensors and replaced it with a standard valve. Offered to replace all four four $760. I now have two dashboard notices that have to be cleared every time I start the car. Not the best three k I ever spent. We have an Audi A4 and a Volkswagen GTI. In northern Virginia, we'd take them to Eurowerks, a place that specialized in Audi Group vehicles. After moving back to Vermont, I was worried about finding a similar shop in the Burlington area. I am glad I found these guys. Had both cars in for VT inspection, quickly, and with courtesy. Had a great discussion about winter tires and what to expect and plan for in that regard this fall. Then had the Audi in for an oil change. Was waiting for them to call, when the service tech showed up at the house! The phone number was accidentally transposed, and so since we weren't far away, they just drove over to talk to us! Now that's service. Turns out the car needed rear rotors and pads, and I found the cost for both parts and labor to be very reasonable - certainly WAY better than a dealership would have charged. Additionally, the team reviewed for upcoming things, like some control arm bushings, and made a priority list of recommended items for the future, their severity and cost, and ensured all my questions were answered. I like proactive thinking like that, and going that extra bit so I can plan and budget accordingly. They're great for any model service, but if you have a piece of German engineering and you live in northern Vermont, you should definitely be going here. read more

I'm not happy to be leaving this place a 1 star review, but when all is said and done that is what they earned. 1st off the guys here are very nice, that's why I wish things went differently. I brought my 2002 Mercedes to them for some work because they were recommended to me by another shop. The work was completed correctly and could've equaled a 5 star review despite never once calling me, I called for each and every update except when it was finally done and it was time to pay. That was only mildly annoying but not worth a bad review, so why the 1 star..... they messed up the paint on both sides of the car with this plastic film they put on it since the battery ran out before they pulled it in and the windows were down and rain was coming. When i dropped it off one issue was the fan for the AC kept blowing even when the key was out and the car was locked. So when I mentioned this to them I asked should I roll up the windows and bring in the key because right now it is turned to the on position. Side note ignition was also bad so having it turned was to make it easier for them to bring it in. I picked up the car after they worked on it on 8/3 brought the car in on 8/6 to show them what happened to the paint. They were closed that Friday, Saturday and Sunday so that was literally the soonest possible to bring it to their attention. Anyway they took pictures and said they'd get back to me after they spoke to the powers that be. Well I called today and what do you know, they won't do anything to fix their mistake and told me I should've put the windows up, again I offered to do just that when I dropped it off. So while the work was done correctly it wasn't worth it since the car now has multiple panels where the clear coat is just gone. Sadly I won't be giving them any more of my business and I won't be recommending them to anyone. I wish I could include pictures of the damage which they acknowledge clearly came from where the plastic was placed! This review will be updated if they own up to it... but for now 1 star it is. Now I'm off to leave this same review everywhere else possible. To think when I brought it and mentioned the recommendation they told me they worked hard for that reputation. I learned a lesson by going to a slightly cheaper local (I live in MontP now...) garage. (I also didn't have AAA to tow me up there) It didn't work out. They replaced my water pump and serpentine belt. They also ruined the tensioner and pulley in the process... and they tried to blame the belt I had purchased! Honestly--no one likes the mechanics. The large bills, unexpected costs, and being without your beloved wheels for a day is no one's idea of a picnic. . German car owners in particular seem to get ostracized from the mechanics community, I know there's been more than one place refuse me service because they "don't work on German makes", not even the humble VW. Sterling Motorwerks changes the game though. You'll see all makes and models going through their garage, but they seem to have a special affection for das Auto. I was ranting about the service available for German cars in the Burlington area when a friend with an Audi told me about them. Not only are they quick to schedule your appointment (I've never waited longer than 2 or 3 days after calling them, if you leave your car, they'll usually have a loaner available for you. If you don't feel like leaving your car and waiting, (they'll usually ask you when you schedule) they do have a comfortable waiting room. It may not be as spectacular as say, Girlington, but you know it's a garage, not a spa. The service is quick and done with a smile. They'll remember your name for next time and anything you happen to mention in passing. Every service I have had done has been not only efficient but done CORRECTLY the first time. I also feel they're pretty honest. I've heard "Nah, you don't really need that done" from them when a dealer or a less honest mechanic would get you for all you're worth. I've had services done else where, and gotten the dreaded "Opps, we made a mistake" call from other places in the area. They've never done that to me. They also call to make sure any additional things they feel need to be done are OK with you and will be upfront with you about the cost. They have NEVER gone over what they've initially told me. I've had my car in for routine service, service lights, and I just today picked it up from a brake job and alignment. Every time I've left happy, and never felt like I was over charged. (In fact, today's brake job was quite a lot cheaper than I expected based on my last brake service at the dealership.) If you have a German car, or just a car in general, and are looking for an honest mechanic who's not going to screw you over, give them a try. read more

Thank you to Rob and Scott! One of the most important contacts to have in my phone is a good, reliable, honest mechanic and Sterling Motorwerks is it. I called Rob last week after reading the great reviews online explaining my car engine light had come on and I wasn't sure if I should drive it. He gave me the name of a great towing company and I had it towed the next day. When I got the first call from Rob, I was a little nervous because the reasoning for my car problems were still unclear and the mechanic hadn't figured out what was going on yet. There were several things that could be going on so he took the time to explain to me what they were. He gave me worst case scenario which I then later prayed it wasn't (because who wants to pay an arm and a leg for their car to be fixed). The second call brought a smile to my face! Rob let me know the problem was a wire that was causing my car to malfunction. It took a lot of troubleshooting but the point is they took the time to solve that problem. Not only did Rob give me a great impression but Scott took the time to answer any other questions I had when I went in to pick my car up. This information helped me further negotiate the purchase price and forego the frustration and cost of unexpected repairs. Sterling Motorwerks has maintained and, when necessary, repaired my BMW since then, and I could not be more pleased with the level of service they have provided. We brought a used car (that admittedly we got hosed on) to Sterling for a problem with a coolant leak. Their "expert" diagnosis to fix the issue cost $2000, but they assured us the problem would be taken care of. Since Sterling's policy reads that the work was under warranty for 12 months we thought it was safe. Needless to say the original problem of the car leaking coolant and overheating still exists. Sterling Motorwerks initially did not want to take any responsibility, saying the work they did was not the problem. In the end they reimbursed us $675.00. Since I am not a mechanic I was trusting them to diagnose the problem, which obviously didn't do correctly since the exact same problem we brought it in for still exists. I recently started bringing my two cars here due to the other satisfied customer reviews on yelp. I will look no further as these guys are, in my opinion, the best for many reasons - Great customer service, professional, and skilled. I have a 2002 BMW convertible and a 2014 Subaru. From simple oil changes to inspections to trouble shooting and fixing a convertible top that would not go up or down - all work was completed efficiently and at what I consider a very reasonable cost. These guys are the first mechanics that have not once told me that other things were wrong with my car that needed immediate repair when all I brought it in for was an oil change. Service Nirvana!!!! Who likes taking their vehicle in for service? Dealing with the dealership? Overpriced or under-performed service? No one. Finally Sterling has changed the playing field! Purchased my 2012 Nissan new from the dealer and had been servicing it there since we bought it in 2012. Earlier this year I was tired of having to recheck the technician's work. That's when I called up Sterling. I knew they serviced das Auto (German specialists) but wondered if they had a tech with Infiniti/Nissan experience. Lo and behold a newer person came on who specializes in Nissan! YAY! (GO CHAD!) From the first phone call to the simple oil change everything was WONDERFUL! As a woman I am often talked down to at most shops but not here. I was treated with respect and valued as a customer. My service was done efficiently and with no issues. Finally a place that when I say - don't fill the washer fluid please - I use Rain-X - they actually listened! They also did the brakes on my vehicle. I am SO happy with the level of service I received. Not only that but they beat the dealership's price by a vast margin. All in all give Rob or Phil a call to set up your service.
