Came into town late on Friday night on June 12th to visit my good friend and was starving. Due to the time we decided to stay local and go to Nate's Stumble Inn Bar & Grill in Bennington, NE. I chose the two piece fried chicken dinner with green beans and mashed potatoes along with side salad. Everything was great with the fried chicken being awesome! After years and years of hearing about the infamous prime rib special on Friday nights, my husband and friends finally par-took. Of course, it's a very popular event for the Northwest and Bennington crowd, and we were amongst a large crowd of folks foaming at the mouth for some juicy prime rib. I went back and forth on actually ordering, but I pulled the trigger and got the smaller portion size. I opted for fries as my side, and enjoyed the deep fried roll. It comes with green beans as well, and the au jus sauce. It was fantstic, Definitely worth the hype. I just had a light draft beer from the bar while we waited and the bartender was super friendly. Local restaurant that has great food. All you can eat chicken on Thursday is a great deal. It's comfortable and we love the bartenders.

We needed to grab some food before a game and wanted something different. This place was packed, and I can see why. Their fried chicken buffet was so tempting, but I ended up with the pork tenderloin sandwich with sweet potato fries. Wow! The queso had a kick to it, but was smooth, cheesy, and delicious. The pork tenderloin was fried perfectly and wasn't chewy. Adding the mayo, lettuce, tomato, and thick cut onion made the sandwich complete. Plus, the homemade sweet potato fries were seasoned perfectly and some of the best I've over had. I'm intrigued with their prime rib buffet, but I'm definitely coming back sometime with our hungry boys for the fried chicken. read more

This place is legit with good food and service. We stopped by on our way to a baseball game and barely found a seat. I was shocked to see they offer fried chicken buffet for under $20 a person! The fried chicken looked so good too. Their queso is delicious, and I tried a bite of my wife's pork tenderloin sandwich. That sandwich was HUGE! It was fried perfectly and not chewy or tough. The food here is exceptional with nightly specials such as all you can eat chicken Thursday and fish fry Friday my girlfriend loves their steak particularly sirloin I much prefer their fries. I was disappointed they got rid of tator tots in favor of potato rings they aren't bad but they don't give you much when we arrive a server is there in a minute which is awesome they explain everything thoroughly down to the details. The ambience or vibe is incredible it's just a hometown bar and grill serving every day people it's very family friendly people bring kids with them and there's a room for holiday parties class reunions baby showers etc when in Bennington stumble inn is the place to be and they help with fundraising events which is cool I'd recommend it read more

We pulled into our local Bnb with about 20 mins before the kitchen closed. The staff was so friendly and kept us company while we waited for our order. Everything we had was tasty and fresh. Props on the onion rings, hot crispy and not greasy. Didn't have drinks since we just popped in for a bite but next time we are in town I may blow the Roth off a few. Went to the Stumble Inn for a last minute dinner out due to not feeling like cooking. It was a "seat yourself" upon our arrival, which was no problem. Sat at a dirty table for 10 minutes, meanwhile 2 patrons arrived to a dirty table next to us. They sat there for 2 minutes when the lovely waitress greeted the two next to us, cleaned their table and asked "are you getting the usual?" After flagging her down to get our table cleaned and obtaining menu we were able to put in a drink order. While cleaning the table we heard "sorry about this, we are short staffed, etc.". I work in an industry that is also sort staffed, but we do not publicize our staffing problems to the world. Drinks arrived, followed shortly thereafter was our appetizer. Our entree's followed a few minutes later with my husbands order being incorrect. Waitress comes back and apologizes and says "I fat fingered when I entered your order, it won't be long they are re making it." Meanwhile my son and I completely finish our meal when his meal arrives. We immediately ask for a to go box, as we had had enough of the terrible service. The food was good...service was horrendous. If The Stumble Inn could do one thing to improve...close tables so your wait staff can provide a service to those that came to receive a service. read more

I love going to Nate's. The staff there are so wonderful no matter how busy they are - they always have a smile and hello. Plus the food is great. Make sure you stop on Thursdays for their fried chicken buffet!! The chicken is out of the world- definitely the best around, then add a salad or soup, real mashed potatoes, white or dark gravy, corn and buns. The steaks and prime rib are pretty good too!! I hate giving a bad review after my first experience at a local restaurant, but, seriously, the fish and chips her are the worst I ever ate. The fish was thin and mostly tasteless and the onion rings were thin and certainly tasteless. This was not a mistake made in the kitchen rather the restaurant's deliberate purchase of cheap products in the hopes the customer would not notice. Stopped in on a Saturday with my in-laws. This was my first time visiting Nate's, but I had heard great things about the food. I have to say, I was not disappointed. Nate's is great. Typical bar & grill setting. Just a perfect informal, casual place to at great food and watch sports. I went against my in-laws' recommendation of steak and got the reuben. Glad I did. It was outstanding! With that said, everyone else ordered steak and prime rib and let me sample a little of each. I was astounded at how good it was. I never would have guessed Nate's to be a go-to spot for steaks, but based on my one visit, it seems to be just that. We've been to Nate's twice, and both times the service was great, which is not common when so many restaurants are understaffed. It feels like the kind of place where "everyone knows your name," although I didn't feel out of place. The waitress was quick to refill our drinks and make sure we had everything we needed. This time, I ordered the prime rib sandwich, only $16.99 for a large portion of prime rib on Texas toast. She let me substitute baked potato for fries. The sandwich was a perfect combo of juicy meat and crunchy breaded toast! I did cut off the fat from the meat, but I think it's expected that prime rib will come with a certain amount of fat. It comes with a side of au jous. My husband ordered the prime rib, which is very reasonably priced in four different sizes. It comes with choice of side, veg, and soup/salad. My wife took me here about a month ago, and I absolutely loved it. Last night she took me again, and it was just as amazing as the first time. The food is phenomenal, and you get quite a bit for a nice price. Everything is hot and fresh. The ranch is quite possibly the best ranch I have ever had, seriously. The burgers look juicy and tasty. However to me, the main star would be their steaks. The seasoning is perfect, they are cooked just right, and my god are they mouth watering. Good food and atmosphere combined with THE friendliest staff around equates to one AWESOME establishment. Do yourself a favor and get out to Bennington, like now. read more

We headed down to the Stumble Inn last night after some rave reviews on the Chicken Fried Steak from some long-time Bennington residents. We were delighted and surprised at the size of the place, which slowly filled up over the course of our meal. Our waitress could not have been nicer, super helpful and attentive all the way! The Chicken Fried Steak was good, but the real stand out was the Sunday special- a Hot Beef Sandwich, filled with tender roast and lacquered in classic brown gravy. Comfort food at it's finest! The CFS was a great deal, as was most of the moderately priced menu. For $11.99, you get a soup or salad, as well as a side AND veggie (corn). At least half ended up in a to-go box for later. Dessert looked tempting, but we were too stuffed! It looks like they have Prime Rib on Friday and Saturdays, so that will have to be our next trip over! read more

This bar is now also nates restaraunt and I love nates! We have been eating here for over a year now and they are right down the street from us so its super convenient. We have yet to actually sit down at the restaurant and eat because we live so close we just order on the phone, (which is super easy and fast)pick it up and come back home. It usually only takes about 15 to 20 minutes. They're always friendly and have huge portions! I always get the chicken fried chicken meal which costs about 11 dollars. It comes with mashed potatoes with chicken gravy or white gravy (i get the chicken gravy) and it comes with a vegetable, soup or salad and a roll. Its quite salty and hard to finish because it's so much food, but very tasty. I asked if I could get rid of the soup since I can never finish all the food but they couldn't accomadate. That was a little disappointing but I will still go back again and he was polite about it. My husband always gets the mushroom and Swiss burger which comes with fries. Its a pretty good amount of food for just under 10 dollars but not nearly as much as my meal. All in all check this place out! Small town feel and a lot of food! read more

Just stopped in for lunch today, they had a NY Strip with potato and veggie on lunch special for only $11.99 and it was one of the best steaks I have had in a long time. Service was great and atmosphere was amazing, this is the perfect go to spot to watch any sporting event or stop in for a great steak. I will definitely be coming back. read more

Amazing food and service. Every. Time. I say I'm going to go there for the prime rib, which is amazing flavor and seasoning and always cooked to perfection, but I usually wind up getting the walleye. I've never had walleye cooked as perfectly as they do here. It's lightly crusted and the meat is fluffy and tender and delicious. The food here was fantastic. We came here on a Friday night and had the prime rib. The price was right. The portion was huge. The seasoning was absolutely spot on. I look forward to coming back. The salad was good and ample. I did not try the carrots, only because I don't generally care for cooked carrots. The bathrooms were just so-so in terms of cleanliness. Our waitress was very friendly, but not very attentive. In her defense, the place was hopping. If the drive weren't so long, I would go back tomorrow. So, my quibbles are pretty small. With cheap drinks and hearty food, Nate's Stumble Inn is the spot to be in Bennington. While the outside makes it appear like some trendy, huge gastro pub, it's actually broken up into two separate spaces -- a banquet room upstairs and a bar/restaurant downstairs. And gastro pub this place ain't. Rather, you have all the classics, from fried chicken to pizza to patty melts. Drinks-wise, don't expect 50 craft beers on tap. Instead, grab a Busch Light to pair with your burger and mashed potatoes. I'd say it's in the same league as great local spots like Danny's Bar & Grill, and the Keystone Tavern. Love, love, love, their wings! I'm not a boneless fan, but on our first visit, when they brought the wrong ones (I ordered bone-in), they apologized profusely and left the boneless at the table to munch on while they made bone in. Oh my gosh, this is REAL chicken and they were delicious, not the frozen nugget types at BWW. The bone in were meaty, deliciously and crispy. We've tried garlic Parmesan and traditional buffalo, both delicious, the traditional buffalo was very mild. I recommend eating them at the restaurant if you're getting boneless only because the sauce does make them a little on the soft side, but the bone in crisp back up nicely in the oven. My hubby and I had 6 wings each and that was perfect, we were both full. We drive quite a ways for these, passing numerous more convenient spots, but to us, none have wings that compare. read more

I can't believe I drove 8 miles to this place. It is a reinforcement of why eating at home trumps. "Server" passed us three times. Dropped a pile of silverware in the middle of the table for a party of seven. No greeting, no introduction, no smile. Food is straight out of the freezer and deep fried. The tenderloin sandwich may have been fresh - generous portion. "Shrimp" accompanying prime rib - frozen breading with a tail. Salad in a bowl served sitting on top of the prime rib. We had been there a couple months ago for all you could eat chicken!! It was very good We decided to try Prime Rib special. We were there at 7pm on Friday night but unfortunately they had already ran out. So that started the disheartening experience. We ordered our food. We received our drinks and silverware timely. But no food or condiments to go with it. After an hour of waiting waitress explains that they are backed up and it will be a minimum of 30 min before food arrives. If we did not wish to wait we could leave to go somewhere else. We asked if we stayed can we get a discount especially since we waited so long. Waitress stated yes we can get a discount. But later her and another waitress brings out a few drinks and states that we are getting 3 alcohol drinks for free and no discounts. Others had iced tea and water. ( but their drinks were not refilled at that time or even later) We did not want another round of drinks only food. Finally after going and asking if we can get at least 1 appetizer that was ordered until food arrives. Finally  we then received salad and appetizer. Later food arrived. Disappointed in food. Shrimp was cold no cocktail sauce given or offered. No ketchup etc for sandwiches on table or offered. 12 oz ribeye stead had maybe 2 ounces of large piece of fat. Pork tenderloin tasted like chicken. Waitress stated that some people inside waited for 2 hrs for food. They were busy and had the party room filled as well. But this was not communicated until 1 HR or more after waiting. Final check arrived. We asked why did we not receive discount as originally discussed. While talking with our waitress another waitress got involved. We had a total of 3 involved by the end of the night. We finally were allowed to recieved a 10 percent discount. There was a discussion back and forth but no raising of voices etc. One waitress did apologize for the very long wait. Throughout the entire evening we were seated in the patio. ( About 2.5 hrs total because of No food). It was very busy inside so we hardly received service. One other table did receive food outside. Prior to leaving one waitress was frequenting the other table for 5 to 10 min at a time in the patio and sat with them. When we left the patio and proceeded to our cars one of the patio customers started a screaming match calling us "cheap skates". Someone had to pick up picked up the receipt and express this to a customer we did not pay a tip. There were a few words exchanged and we left the parking lot because we did not wish for the scene to escalate. Bad service!! Bad communication! Food average!! Bad management should be more prepared for larger crowds. Waitress should not communicate to non staff who paid tips and how much. Very very distasteful! Needless to say. You have lost our business forever!! read more
