I went to The Verdict on a Saturday night with my girl friend and I was really excited to show her this place! We got there around midnight and had to pay a $5 cover fee to get in. I was happy to do that as I knew I was in for some good late night food. In the past, I had their loaded "drunk" house nachos and they were great to share with friends! This time, I got the 3 chicken strips with fries and ranch. It was so good! The chicken strips were a great ratio of chicken and breading. The fries were crispy and tasty. I was so happy. My friend got the mozzarella sticks and she really enjoyed them! I also think that their prices are GREAT! Whether for drinks or food they are a lot more affordable than other places. I also love their variety for both their drink and food menus. Every time I have gone, it never has been too busy. I never feel very crowded and this time I got to dance to 80s music on the dance floor! There was a DJ and really fun lights. The food is tasty, but it took an hour before we ate. Ordered drinks, an appetizer, salads and pizza, but with no action after 20 minutes or so, l inquired about our order and was told that the server never entered it. C'mon. If they had been swamped with customers, l would have overlooked it, but there was hardly anybody in there. Even after that, we still waited for our salads for a ridiculous amount of time. How long does it take to throw a couple of salads together?!? After this, there was no offer of compensating us until l brought it up. Not a great experience. read more

Disappointing energy. Went in on a late evening, first let me say I am a very bubbly person because well why walk around being sad when that is meant for privacy. My opinion. So anyway went in with my sister, I seen great ratings for the food and atmosphere that I was like let's go. Upon entry the welcoming was so dry. I even tried to ask the owner if he was having a bad night, he was drier in response and then asked me to order, I did not order anything because I did not like the service at all. I was excited to try especially when I seen it was a veteran owned establishment. Support our veterans. His attitude was not welcoming and was such a disturbing energy that I refused to eat and after my family finished their drinking, we went somewhere else to eat. I would not return. My sister enjoyed the pricing of the drinks, however the tater tots she ordered were dry. Like they were over fried, lacked seasoning, even when my sister adding Parmesan cheese, salt and pepper and salt they were not impressive. Burgers are amazing and the Filipino egg rolls are house-made and perfect. I will return multiple times just to have the Filipino eggrolls. Management is well-seasoned and have created the perfect mix of atmosphere and quality. We were really impressed with the above-the-norm burgers and attentive ownership/management. If you work downtown, definitely take advantage of this spot for lunch. They know what they're doing and the location is excellent. Did I mention the cleanliness? It's white-glove immaculate here. Go and meet Scott, he is part owner and he is fabulous! He knows how to take care of people. Yes, it's a bar but it so much more then that. I posted all sorts of pictures. We had dumplings, egg rolls, Thai chicken pizza , an International burger with a fried egg, a BBQ burger with a fried egg, two peach concoctions of Scott's creation, one BBC (banana, Baileys' and coconut) and one Angry Orchard. (See picture) We were there about 6pm on a Saturday and it really should have been busier. The service was wonderful. The food was great. I took half a burger and most of a pizza home because we were stuffed. Thank goodness I live within crawling distance. We got delivery and it was fairly good! Honestly I would give it 3 stars because they got our order a little wrong and the fries were very cold but the other food was good. They get an extra star JUST for chopping up my hamburger and making it a wrap. I just requested a wrap and the fact that they made it into a delicious treat felt like they went out of their way for me. I come here on Tuesday for $1 tacos, the tacos are your basic delicious tacos, served in a puffy shell. Quite delicious and only a dollar. Comete with a happy hour of 3.50 margaritas and dollar off drafts. The evening comes in very affordable and one of the best deals in town. Even better than the tacos is the bartender, she works constitantly and ensure you have a great experience. Always friendly, courteous and quick - I have never had an empty glass even on the busiest of nights. The most recent they had a AC outage and the staff worked diligently to get back up and running when they could and communicated to each customer the situation and the time before food would be served again. Busy bars are great if you're looking for a meat market or drink lines. Business owners might feel differently, but I like a quiet spell during the day to balance out the throngs that show up for lunch, happy hour, trivia, ladies night, thirsty Thursday and karaoke Saturdays. And when it comes to throngs, The Verdict has been bringing them in for the last two years. It's a bar & grill with a lounge feel where you might hear a good lawyer joke from a lawyer. Such as "What do you call 1,000 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean? A good start." Brutal AND amusing. My trip to The Verdict was prompted by the return to these shores of American hero and combat veteran Colonel Mark Schonberg. I owed him a night out and a special word of thanks for his service in temporarily fixing the communications infrastructure of Afghanistan several years ago and for snorkeling lessons. The Verdict's side street parking is plentiful by mid- to late-afternoon and into the evening hours. Inside, The Verdict has a chill lounge vibe, comfortable leather chairs, large windows overlooking beautiful Harney Street, board games and a wall-mounted, electric fireplace. One could easily spend a snowy, winter afternoon here playing scrabble or reading over a few toddies. There is also keno. Bartender Jessica was on watch during my recent trips. She is conviviality personified and appears to like interacting with customers. Had I pushed harder with questions about the bar, the menu, the neighborhood, specials etc. I would have found no bottom to that wellspring. Tip this one generously, she deserves it. On tap they have Bud Light, Smithwick's, Goose Island IPA, Samuel Adams Summer Ale and Stella Artois. There is a comprehensive wine list with Copper Ridge Chardonnay and Cabernet at the low end at $5 per glass and $19 a bottle and Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc and Irony Pinot Noir for $8 glass and $31 a bottle at the high end. I could use a more complete drink menu. They've got a generic cocktail menu with a few featured drinks, but I like to see this many bottled craft beers on paper rather than lining the space above the bar. On my visits I had a couple pints of Smithwick's and a tasty reuben for around $20. The Colonel enjoyed his Philly. The alcohol prices are reasonable. The food prices ($7.99 for a burger and fries,16-inch single-topping pizzas for $12.95) are a value. Breakfast is also available, The Verdict has daily food and drink specials from 3 p.m. to close including $4 Blue Monday shots, $3 margaritas and $4 Coronas/Dos Equis on Tuesdays, $5 Wild Turkey American Honey shots on Wednesday, $3 tall boys on Thursdays and $1 off draft beers on Fridays. Verdict bar and grill has always had its fair share of characters. It's usually a mix of good humor and professional atmosphere. But this last Monday was so bad it was fit to make YouTube's number one list of what not to do at work. As two (bartenders?) or employees got into a huge fight, or rather one male bartender did. He yelled, cursed, and completely demeaned a young lady that walked in for her shift. I mean he yelled, got in her face, threatened her with physical violence, and was so close I'm sure she had to wash the spit off her face from this attach. I felt so bad for this adult woman that even tried to take it to the back room to chat and he even stepped closer when this happened. My date almost had to step in due to the verbal abuse that almost escalated to physical violence. I truly hope this is not what this young lady has to endure everyday. With today's current climate I'm taking it it's the first time this has happened, and that this man that felt the need to puff up his chest and yell at this woman for simply coming into work has been let go so he can get the psychological help he desperately needs. The young lady then had to stay on to work after he left, but she made amazing drinks and acted as if nothing had happened. I asked her if she was ok when she brought the check and all she said was it's fine and she kept apologizing that we had to witness such unprofessional behavior. I know she made a phone call, I'm hoping to management to report this. She was so visibly shaken and would stare off between customers I'm sure reliving the vicious abuse that was hurled at her. I just hope her shift was not too long. I would have quit on the spot. My date thought about offering her a job later this week because at least at his job you can throw out customers like that and if an employee had yelled at another like that someone would have been fired on the spot. I want to end by saying this is a great place to eat and I've heard the karaoke singing on the weekends is epic. But one bad apple can ruin even the best apple pie. read more

This is a hidden gem! I don't know how they are for drinks as we come for the tacos on Tuesday! $1 tacos. They are ground beef only but doesn't matter! Delicious and worth more than a $1 so what a value! They are served in a fried flour tortilla similar to California Tacos only not as large. So I can eat a couple without feeling stuffed. Also they have yummy crab Rangoon dip! It's creamy, sweet, tart, lightly crabby and so good! Comes with friend wonton wrappers for chips. The service is friendly, quick and wonderful. I've been a patron of the verdict for several years, and I have always had a good experience when dining. The Blue Moon burger with bacon is a favorite. The beverage offering is extensive and I can attest to the deliciousness of the grey goose dirty martinis (!YUMMY!). The vibe is modern and relaxed, the atmosphere encompasses old town/downtown. I love it! The staff is always friendly, and easy on the eyes. It helps that I know the owners, but these guys really do a fantastic job. Off to a weird start but then it just got absurd. I ordered a beer and my fiancé ordered a Moscow mule. "We don't have the cups m'dear." was the curt and condescension laden reply. (When I was at nightowl a few weeks ago and received a horse feather in a Tom Collins glass. I said thank you and paid, as usually happens when one orders a cocktail.) Our illustrious server doubled down this time saying that they did indeed have ginger beer, lime and vodka (all the constituent parts of the cocktail that was ordered) but they still don't serve them because they don't have the right cups. By this point I think it's clear that nobody wanted to be there. Not us. Not our dismayed bartender. Not even a church mouse. Since my fiancé was denied, in no uncertain terms, the first drink she ordered, the server brought her a conciliatory cocktail of his choosing. I was quite surprised to find a white moscato/peach schnapps/rancid tar/scraped-off-the-back-of-an-LA-schoolbus mixed drink on the bill considering no one at my table ordered it. Bravo. read more

We had a large party, but called waaaay in advance. The place was understaffed and some in the party waited over 2 hours for nothing more than basic bar food. The staff was overwhelmed, but had management at least come over and apologized and bought a round of drinks it would have made a big difference. One staff member, which appeared to be the manager, was actually outside smoking a cigarette while things were falling apart inside. If you just want to go out for a beer, then this is your place. We had a group of 30, called well in advance to let them know we had this large party coming for food and drink, showed up, 2 cooks/server staff and the bartender were the only employees to be found. Several in the party had to wait over 2 hours for their food orders. Many of the food orders came out cold - like cold, cold french fries. The food that was warm was meh at best. The bartender tried hard but it was painfully obvious that her service skills were limited to behind the bar. The drink orders were light on alcohol (heavy alcohol could have saved this awful "dining" experience) The only saving grace of this odyssey of misfortune was that the food was fairly reasonable from a cost standpoint. Of course, with Meh food, what much is reasonably priced? Hard pass if someone suggests going here for anything other than bottled/tap beers. read more

When I am downtown I make a point to come here, whether it's happy hour, lunch or dinner. It has a great atmosphere, friendly and talented staff behind the bar and in the kitchen. What a great night! Heard about the good food so we came here with a group for taco tuesday. We immediately made ourselves at home in the cozy upper section. The kids played board games that were provided while the adults talked and lounged in comfy chairs. The bar is both gorgeous and inviting. It feels upscale while being very welcoming. The tacos were EXCELLENT and cheap! Cant comment on other mains as us just had tacos. I loved looking out at the downtown streets as it sits in a perfect corner location. read more

My food was terrible as was the service! I ordered a burger (well done) and fries. My burger came back rare and since the waitress never bothered to check on us, i simply ate my fries. She came back with another round of pops and asked how are food was, i showed her my burger and she said ~sorry~. She then brought me the bill for the entire meal, I told her I had issue with paying for burger & fries when I only ate the fries. She then brought me another bill that was ONE DOLLAS less than the first one - I was charged for a basket of fries - I didn't have a basket i had a side order. I paid the bill with no complaints.
