The workers also seemed friendly and happy to help. I feel like this place was overrated on social media because I've had better local ice cream closer to my house. I appreciated one of the workers that recommended me cookies and cream milkshake, instead of the cookie monster because it would be creamier. He didn't have to tell me that, but I like the honesty and recommendations. The milkshake was decent, but it tasted like there was either too much milk, or the ice cream was on the blander side. I would probably add a little less milk than they did, but it was still good. Mango sherbet freeze - 5* we add vanilla into ours which makes it taste more like a creamsicle. The place is worthy of the hype and totally worth the drive to Manassas. It's a stand with seating out front so you can eat at the tables outside or take it to go. They're located in a large parking lot so there's plenty of parking even if they're crowded. They have a large menu with many soft serve and regular flavors and several different serving sizes. They even have a model showing how much you get with the various sizes. I had the seasonal harvest apples which were baked cinnamon apples and lots of vanilla soft serve ice cream. It was perfect and I was barely able to finish it all even though I was hungry. Service was very friendly and we ended up chatting with a friendly regular who frequents this place. Nathan's serves both soft serve, hand scooped ice cream, and shaved ice. My personal favorites are sundaes and milkshakes - which you can pretty much customize depending on your preferences. We love Nathan's. But that's probably an understatement. We tried other local soft serves & it just doesn't stand up. If you can't nail a vanilla, the most basic of flavors, what hope is there for the remaining. And their soft serve vanilla is almost more delicious than the chocolate and isn't that the truest taste test? In the mood for soft serve? They got you. They have their tried and true flavors (about 6-8) with an additional rotating flavor that changes every 3-4 days. In the mood for something a little more adventurous? Try their blue vanilla with crushed Oreos & cookie dough - the Cookie Monster. Or Bessy's Bakery: a brownie batter ice cream with cookie dough and choc chips. They're scooped flavors rotate as well on the same 3-4 day schedule. You can find a list of their flavors on their FB page posted daily. They'll even let you know when it's the last day of a flavor rotation! Finally, a legit frozen custard place that actually has a proper thick custard consistency. Brilliant. Had the twist and both flavors were so good, so creamy and perfectly textured. I wish I had gotten a cone because this was the perfect licking consistency. I wanted to try the hard scooped flavors as well, tho, so I compromised with a cup - half Maple Walnut, half twist, with wet nuts as the topping. This was a topping I had never heard of, being from the West Coast, so I had to ask wtf it was because... wet nuts sounds like some sort of medical problem. But it is walnuts in maple syrup (prob maple flavored corn syrup, not real maple). My partner in ice crime got a Boston Shake (1/2 shake 1/2 sundae) crushed cherries shake, chocolate hardshell soft serve sundae on top. He would make different choices next time. The ratio of shake to sundae was too much shake to not enough sundae. He wasn't a fan of the flavor of their chocolate hardshell, which was lacking chocolate flavor, and just tasted waxy. He felt like he would have been better off just having the regular vanilla and chocolate twist in a cup. The line was long but moved quickly. We got a little rained on in early May, but it was delightful. They have a big patio section to sit and enjoy your treats in, but we escaped the wet, which was really starting to come down by the time we got out order, to the car. My little cousin used to stick his head through the window to get a whiff of the vanilla goodness. They have a large variety to select from and they're open to accommodations- for example I get the s'mores sundae and sub the hot fudge for chocolate sprinkles that way the ice cream doesn't melt as fast. During perfect weather, there's a huge line waiting for a bite of that cold, creamy heaven.
