I liked that they accepted my girlfriends insurance but I did not like that they tell you how you should add this and add that when I can't even have time to research any of the items they wanted to add. These glasses were for my girlfriends son's glasses and we needed to get them done so we went for it but I think when I go back for mine, I will write down everything they talk about, and research them before actually going back to make my purchase. The girl was very nice and she was friendly so that was a plus. The place is about a mile or so from my house as well and they have lots of locations so that's cool. Our family optometrist recommended us to Nationwide for a good deal on glasses and they certainly delivered. My son got 2 pairs of glasses for 139.00. This kid goes through glasses and that's probably the cheapest we've gotten 2 pairs plus the protection etc. so in total it was actually 187.00 but still not bad for 2 pairs. I did call ahead of time and they had our insurance info and knew what we needed when we walked in. The entire process was a breeze and quick. The assistant was very helpful and knowledgeable. I had an appointment scheduled for today. I took time off of work and couldn't wait for my eye exam. It's been long overdue. I'm getting ready and I receive and phone call, 2 hours before my appointment and was told the doctor needed to reschedule. I was told the price for an eye exam was $170. I called Americas Best, not only did they fit me in same day, they helped me save $50 for the eye exam. read more

No refunds. So I went and got a retest and the doctor decided I needed progressives. I contacted Nationwide and was told by whoever answered the phone a new prescription remake should not be a problem but she had to check with the higher ups?? It has been several days and the manager never bothered to call back. Now I M sure I am outside the 30 day window. Worst experience in the office of Nationwide office located in Guadalupe and McClintock in Tempe - at the end of January I had my eye examination. That same day my glasses were ordered. I had my own frames. In any case my total cost was $183 after insurance. The amount was taken care that same day. After I got my glasses and tried them on they were worse than the ones I had them before. I went to let them know. Staff was not able to make any decision without their manager. So I went back next day. Manager, without looking into the situation tried to dismiss me by saying that I missed the time frame, which wasn't true. I had to walk her through timeline and convince her that I am within time frame! Otherwise, I would have to pay all over! I was scheduled for second eye exam and based on that they ordered new glasses. In mean time, while I was waiting for new glasses, I got daily notifications that my glasses are ready. When I would show up come to learn that their system is not working great, it was false alarm! Now we received from insurance a charge of $89 for glasses. We followed up with insurance to question this charge as we paid in person by credit card full amount the day we ordered glasses. Insurance staff contacted the nationwide vision staff while we on the call. Even though, it was obvious that they overcharged they could not admit. They asked us to go into their office and meet with manager. My husband went and after office discussion it was decided they overcharged us and they will reimburse us. It is going to take another 60 days to receive our money back. I wonder, how many people question the overcharge and how much money is being stolen this way? Never again at this office! read more

Astounding levels of incompetence here. Avoid at all costs. I called and spoke with a perfectly polite individual at this location and explained that I would be a new patient and that I needed an eye exam. They asked for any specific details that the doctor should know, to which I answered that I have a slight retinal tear and they asked a couple of follow up questions about that, then scheduled me an appointment for that same day just a few hours later. Fast forward 30 minutes and they even called me back and asked me if I preferred another location that had the option to not use those horrific eye drops. Solid customer service up til then. I get to the office, wait to be seen, and the doctor wouldn't even come out to speak with me. They made their employees come tell me that he would not see or speak to me due to my retinal tear. When I asked why nobody mentioned that when we discussed it over the phone, they just stared blankly back at me and said nothing. When the doctor won't even come speak to a patient face to face and own their mistakes, it's time to not go there anymore. The negative reviews are well deserved. read more

I purchased a pair of glasses with Sophia Loren frames and progressive lenses. I tried for two weeks to get used to the progressive lenses, just could not do it. I hate looking for the sweet spot in the lens for clarity. Went back in and got a FULL refund for the $499 glasses with no arguments, and instead purchased bi-focal lenses & half frames for $350. I'm happy with the new glasses, very happy I got A full refund on the first pair. read more

Dr. Abela is great. He deserves 5 stars on his own. The assistant that does the first part of the exam, she is also great. The office staff might be the unfriendliest people I have ever encountered. I walked up to the desk and said I had an appointment. I was greeted with "Give me your ID" and handed a clipboard to fill out new patient paperwork. I have been coming here for 10 years, I told him I was already a patient and was told "Just fill it out" My eye insurance makes me come to Nationwide, I would not be a customer here if it were not for the insurance. The older gentleman that works here is extremely unpleasent and very pushy when it comes to the glasses and contacts sale portion of the appointment. For the price of 1 box of contacts for each eye (a 3 month supply) it is the same price as a 9 month supply from online sites. Very pushy for me to buy from them. read more

Okay, so this was an unpleasant experience. The reason why nationwide vision off Guadeloupe gets more that one star from me is because the price is reasonable here. You won't get stuck with a bill that is out of control. The problem though is that there was a lack off communication regarding what my insurance covers. On the phone, I was told be a rep that my health insurance covers medically related eye problems. So I took the day off work and scheduled an appointment. When I get there, they informed me that I may not be covered under my insurance and that I may incur the cost myself because my symptoms did not seem that serious. An unexpected expense that could run a hundred to two hundred dollars. No effort was ever made to tell me this in advance and as far as I knew going in, I was covered. I ended up calling my insurance directly and they told me that I should have been seen and they would have paid for it. It just seems like maybe the staff isn't trained that well and that they need to be more vigilant in reaching out to their customers. read more

What a difference a day makes. Dr. Abela and his assistant were very professional, made me feel comfortable and answered my questions. The office staff gentleman was very helpful as well but when I came in the following day (Saturday) it was a whole different story. Not greeted, and then rudely asked if I needed help. After finding what I needed and going to pay I asked some questions. I got snotty rude answers, no explanation no customer service and felt like I was spoken down upon by the ratchet beast, of a gatekeeper. Went from 5 stars to 1 star is less than 24 hours. I think that it's pretty funny that out of 11 reviews almost all of them talk about how unfriendly the staff is, because that was exactly what I was going to focus on in my review. You would think that if all of your customers are unhappy about how poorly your customer service is the company would want to do something about it. I was so unhappy with my experience with Walmart vision center, and my new prescription for the past several months have been horrible. So I had to get a new one. I've heard so many good things about nationwide so I wanted to try it out. It's about $10 more than the Walmart vision center but it was worth it. My doctor was great and my new contacts prescription is so much more clearer and comfortable. I think my doctor's name was Dr. Abela. When I first walked in, no one greeted me. The receptionist just stood behind her desk with an unhappy look on her face. No, " hi how are you, what can I help you with". Same thing with the assistant. She seemed very annoyed when she had to repeat her questions. If you don't like your job maybe you shouldn't be working there, because you give your patients a bad experience. I hope the owners and managers read this and maybe fire their staff or train them on some customer service. If it wasn't for their customer service I'd probably be giving them a 4 star. read more

Was time for me to renew my eye exam prescription, I called to set up a appointment and they were able to squeeze me in the same day(some people didn't show up, so thank you to those who didn't) . I got my eyes checked, I was told about what my insurance coverage is and how much they were willing to cover ect, they were even willing to spend extra time to answer all my questions regarding prices for different eye glasses,frames, brands etc. I felt no pressure to buy, and they made sure I was happy with everything before I left that visit. I had a wait a few days for my order to arrive but everything was perfect, honestly I couldn't ask for a better staff. They have very good communication, good listeners, and very friendly. SCAM ALERT!!! Do not waste your time with ANY of their locations, especially if you have VSP. First I was told VSP is out-of-network, then I was told it was in-network, but when I came in for the appointment I was again told out-of-network. I was going to go ahead with the appointment, but they were requiring me to sign a document pertaining to insurance and that raised a red flag as they stated my insurance wasn't being billed. When I protested they insisted I sign, but then when I read the document closely I realized the scam: This company is going to collect the cash payment from me, THEN check my insurance eligibility using my name, dob and SSI#, submit the claim to be paid by insurance as well and then back bill me for even more money. Also their office staff is awful, Walmart associates are more knowledgeable than these jerks. They tried to tell me VSP wasn't the largest eye insurer in the US. The head doctor remembers me everytime I come in but the receptionist and the assistant always lack customer service and come off Kindv'e rude. This location has been my service provider for the last 3 years, only because it is the closest one that falls under my insurance provider. The service is awful! The staff is unfriendly and they have never been on time with their appointments, expect to wait 20-30min. They broke my frames one year while adjusting the fit and sent me home with taped frames, I had to fight with corporate to get the frames replaced. Most recently I got a new prescription and frames, when collecting my new glasses I immediately noted that something was wrong and that the prescription was not correct. They tried to send me home with the incorrect prescription lenses even after they confirmed that there had been a mistake. I am so done with Nationwide. This branch is TERRIBLE! read more

I am so sorry I went to Nationwide Vision Center today. It was the worst experience I've ever had getting an eye exam and trying to find frames. The people in the office didn't even try to help me find frames or lenses. There was a sign that said, "2 pairs for $99 no extra charge for no line progressive lens." But that deal is only good without insurance. My insurance allowed $200 for frames and lenses. But yet after I chose a frame for $79 when I add progressive lense they wanted $169 on top of the $200. What a scandal. I left without glasses. I will take my business elsewhere. read more

Duane was knowledgeable about shopping for glasses; however, neither Duane or Lisa would give an honest opinion and did not disclosed their outrageous prices for additional lens options. Their prices are way above the market. Upon terminating the sale, the duo admitted they thought the frames looked horrible on me, and they they scoffed at my comparative market analysis showing a competitors price far below theirs. For my first visit, there was over a 2 hour wait to see a doctor, with an appointment. The tech they had measure my base curve for contacts got the wrong size, so the contacts didn't fit right -- but all I knew was that they got blurry every once in a while. I went back for a follow up, and the doctor still couldntt figure out why the contacts were not quite right. I ordered 4 boxes of contacts only to finally figure out on my own that the base curve was wrong when looking at my old prescriptions. When I notified the office and tried to exchange the contacts for those with the right size, they said they couldn't help me. Awful, awful service to go along with what appears to be an incompetent staff. Trust me -- save yourself the hassle and go elsewhere. I made an appointment online yesterday for my daughter and myself to get eye exams. I received separate emails notifying me of the "request" for appointments as well as text messages. I received nothing further from them so we showed up 15-20 minutes early for the appointments that I "requested". I had filled out the paperwork as they advised and told the receptionist I had made appointments for today. She then told me that I merely "requested" an appointment and that she did not have time to call me prior to the scheduled appointment to inform me that my appointments were unable to be fulfilled. There was not one person in the office other than employees. She made no attempt to reschedule, fit me in, direct me to another location that could potentially get me in. Meanwhile, I have taken time off work and taken my daughter out of school. It's probably not a good idea to offer online appointments if you cannot confirm them or reschedule them prior to the time requested. This problem could have easily been diverted by a simple 5-minute phone call to confirm or reschedule. Instead, you have lost two patients of over 10 years because there was not enough time to contact me. read more

I recently went to Nationwide Vision Center and the service was not what it used to be when it was originally owned by the original owners Dr. Neil Weinstein and Dr. Mark Hechtman, the eye glasses and contact lenses are not as affordable as they used to be and it took nearly 3 weeks to get my glasses not to mention they never gave me a courtesy call to let me know my glasses were in, I had to call to find out since it had been over 3 weeks. Me and my whole family had went here only because it's close to our home and they took our Insurence. We all had our eye exams my hubby and daughter found glasses they liked as I was skeptical because the quality I opted to go elsewhere. My daughter got her glasses first which the screws fell out two days later after receiving them, they fixed them we moved on.. My hubby's glasses however took very long because they "broke" in the lab. No phone call to let us know until we came back two and a half weeks later they were still not in. We gave them til the end of the week which they promised they will be in by.. They were not even shipped out yet. We straight up said ok give us the refund and we will go elsewhere. Ofcourse they couldn't refund it because the manager wasn't there. So we waited three more days to get them. Meanwhile I just had my script with a different company and the script was completely wrong! I cant see anything upclose. So I had to make another appointment with these incompetent dweebs. I had a different doctor this time and I pray he knows what he is doing. So I have to wait another 10 days to get them fixed. I took my daughter for her wellness exam after her glasses came in with her pediatrician and they seriously asked me when was the last time she had her eyes checked. So again I need to have my daughters eyes re evaluated. My husband gets his glasses and he swears he sees worse in them then his old glasses. My husband went back after a few hours after getting his glasses and just straight up told them he wants a refund on his glasses and that he will never come back because they managed to screw up all three of our prescriptions. They had the nerve to give him a hard time and refused to refund the eye exam. We will be disputing this with our insurance company and credit card company! My first and last visit "DON" sucks..The receptionist and technician were nice and friendly. The doctor spent a lot of time convincing me why not to get laser surgery and about his own personal experiences. Also He recommended me to a different clinic which he thought was better and more experinced. I didnt have the 65 dollars copay i was not expecting when they FIRST quoted me. I picked anice pair of Ralph Laurens and said i would be back in 4 days to pick them up. When i showed up 'Don" scratched his head and said oops i guess we sold them to someone else.. Didnt offer any solution, was rude and said "i would have to settle for a different frame", everyone was silent and quiet, I think it was BS because the guy who helped me said they can get anythin i want from another store, "Don" said there was nothing he could do, they only hold them for a few days.
