Long Story Short: Accidentally stabbed myself hard in the eye with the corner of a rigid envelope Thursday. I literally could not see or keep my eye open, my other eye also would water up so much I could not see. My wife was 3 days past her due date. Dr. Pearson squeezed me in Friday and had be seeing pain free m 15 minutes and gave me his cell phone to call him if I needed him. My wife went into labor Sunday morning and I was able to safe drive her to the hospital and see my daughter born because of this man. My experience was absolutely pain free and fantastic! Desert Eye has been the only eye office I've seen as long as I've lived in AZ. Despite the recent turnover in eye doctors, it's been an enjoyable experience. The DR turnover was noted when I went for my 2023 annual visit and discussed it with Dr Wan-- I've seen him now 2 years in a row which is a landmark for the office since probably 2019. All of the staff however are so kind and thorough at their job. I never have to wait more than a few minutes after filling out paperwork for the annual exams to begin. In the last few years I've been able to switch to daily contacts and the office makes it easy for me to get some new ones sent directly to my house with the rare times I get a few bad ones from the batch. Of recent they've added text messaging options to their communications stack which is helpful for times when I may not be able to pick up the phone, or I call and can't leave a VM. They truly make the annual dread of exams and making me acknowledge how blind I am a good experience. read more

I have had 6 different appointments with Desert eye, and really found them to excellent. I have terrible vision, and dry eyes, and had a emergency visit with a scratched eye. They are kind, thorough, and helpful. I prefer them to my several other big box eye stores. I would still be going to them if they accepted my dumb insurance, though also have just paid cash because I prefer them too. read more

Cody at the front, Dr.Wan and the eye techs were great! I felt comfortable and that the place was very clean. Definitely recommend! I also felt Dr. Wan was knowledgeable and friendly. The only thing I didn't like was one of the receptionists- they ask for the last four digits of your ssn to look up your insurance and I personally don't feel comfortable giving that information to anyone these days! She made a slightly snarky comment that I overheard because I was hesitant to provide that info. I ended up providing it on a piece of paper and then they gave it back to me. Not many places ask for that info so you definitely have a right to question/be hesitant. read more

Best experience ever! Service was swift and thorough. Modern equipment, knowledgeable and friendly staff. The frame selection has a price range for any budget. Tracey took time to completely understand my insurance, wants and needs in frames a lens type. I was impressed at the tech that's available for lens. Tracey understood that decreasing magnification was the utmost important to me and she knew exactly what would work. When I received my glasses 10 days after my initial exam I was elated to fond that the magnification was near zero. I've been wearing glasses for all of my life and I've never had that happen. My dear grandma and I arrived here by chance and let me preface by saying, I'm so grateful we did! Without an appointment, we walked in to have her glasses tightened as they were practically falling off my grandmothers head. The receptionist asked us to wait one moment and they introduced us to Tracey who treated both of us with the utmost kindness and consideration. After seating my grandma in a cute little vanity, Tracey carefully examined the glasses and told us to relax in the seated area while she took care of them herself. The place itself is absolutely divine. It is so clean inside, and well decorated-- I wouldn't mind staying all afternoon! Overall, they far exceeded my expectations. We were treated with such grace that I cannot wait to take my grandma back to get a new pair of glasses. Heck! I wish I could get a pair myself, but I don't need glasses yet. I've been going to Desert Eye since I moved to AZ back in early 2019 and even as I move further away, I continue to come here. I've always had a great experience with the doctors and staff, plus they carry a wide selection of glasses. Customer service is huge to me and makes a huge impact on my experience, but they've exceeded my expectations each visit. Since becoming a new mom, finding time to schedule appts without my baby is difficult. I went to my scheduled appointment with baby in tow and Carrie (I believe that was her name) heard my daughter get a bit fussy in the exam room so she came in and offered to carry her. I thought that was the sweetest thing ever and made my visit a little less stressful. So thank you! I'll definitely continue to coming back here as long as I'm able to. read more

Love coming to Desert Eye. The staff is the best around. They are always looking out for better prices and insurance options. After being told I would never wear contacts again, I thought my eyes were done for. I was then told I had severe dry eye, and should use drops. I stopped going to that eye doctor, and decided to get a consult for Lasik. Although I am not a candidate for the procedure, Doctor Ryff has done wonders for my eyes. She explained my dry eye disease, and has me wearing contacts to keep it from getting worse. read more

Wonderful staff! I love Dr. Pearson! He is funny and caring, asks questions about how you are doing, etc. Friendly and helpful and staff, ask what you are looking for in a pair of glasses, walk you through the pre-test stuff. I will admit I pay for the good insurance at my job and the opticians get actually a little bit excited when they see what they can do. I have had my glasses broken a few times and they always let you know when they are under warranty so it won't cost you anything to fix. Plus, when I couldn't get a replacement right away, Greg figured out a way to make my glasses usable. I cannot function without my glasses. I have never waited long for my scheduled appointment time. And that is despite knowing they put an emergency case in before me at least once. I will miss this place when I have to move away from here. :( read more

I was due to obtain my new contact lenses for the year, and my appointment for updating my prescription was quick and easy; in and out, no fuss. When my contacts were originally sent to my address, they ended up getting returned to sender due to my apartment number not getting included on the address when Desert Eye ordered them, which delayed my receipt of the contacts by about a week and a half after my then-current pair would have expired. However, when I called them up about this, they made no excuses but just promptly apologized and reordered my contacts at no cost to me--not only that, but they gave me a small box of 24 weeks' worth of "trial contacts" matching my prescription completely gratis! This is a business that deserves your time and patronage, with staff who have shown themselves as being not only trustworthy in the sense that they are true to their word, but also because they own up to any mistakes on their part and go above and beyond to take care of their customers. 5/5, would absolutely come here again for all of my optometry needs for as long as I'm living in Tempe! read more

We sent our existing prescription from California and the office helped us get a pair of trial contacts right away. I stay away if you can they're uptight and not helpful!! Hidden fees and a five minute rule that we, the patient, cannot break however it is fine if they do-i had to wait for 30 minutes just to be seen when i arrived on time. Poor establishment with stringent, greedy policies. read more

I just moved from California to Arizona, in need of a new eye doctor. I searched for providers on the VSP portal, and found this one which had great reviews and was located locally. I called and the nice receptionist helped me book my appointment and get my insurance sorted, came in a few days later to their nice clean office and had a full eye exam and contact lens fitting. Everything went smooth, the staff and the doctor were very nice happy and helpful. No complaints, would recommend. :) read more

I found this location based on their Google reviews and I could not be happier with my choice! From the time I called to schedule the appointment to the time I left their office I received more than 5 star care. This place really has customer service mastered. Ryan is amazing, Tracey is amazing, and Steven Wan was also so amazing. There was also a tall thin man taking care of the patients in the lobby who was so wonderful. I have a love hate relationship with them. They send text reminders which are great. They are very nice people but their wait times are ridiculous. Is it normal to spend two hours for an eye exam? I'm not even a patient and Desert Eye treated me well! I don't live in Arizona but if I ever moved they would have me as their patient. Let me explain: I was in the area on vacation and noticed one of my contact lenses was torn. I called a few optometrists to see if they had any samples they could provide me since I forgot to bring back-ups. The other places either didn't have my lens type or were not willing to help me out. Desert Eye was a different story. I had my doc fax over my Rx and they had a sample pair I could use. They saved my vacation! Thanks again! read more

I've used Desert eye for several years and have always found them to be professional and caring and they have always had a good selection of eye glasses. In addition, when they say boutique, that means small, and individualized, and get this folks, local. It is a small local business that is part of the community. Personally, they actually warned me about possibly having a detached retina at some point and thanks to that warning, when it did occur, I was on it and able to make sure I did not have additional damage from the event. Finally, their office is in a good location if you live in Tempe. Southern and Rural is pretty easy to get to and added bonus, I don't have to go to the mall (sorry, anti-mall person). I have been going to Desert Eye for years. I am going to divulge my age here but I am 25 and have been seeing Dr. Pearson since I was 10 years old. My parents and brother have been going to Desert Eye for years as well. Dr. Pearson is very knowledgeable as well as his staff. I was very pleased with the selection of glasses. During my most recent visit a few months ago, I couldn't decide between 2 pairs. Luckily, Matt was there to convince me that these gorgeous Gucci frames were the best fit for me. I am surprised to read about the logistical nightmare that W.H. had but I cannot recall this ever happening to me. I actually called the office the next day to compliment the staff on the wonderful customer service. The glasses arrived 2 weeks later and I have received many compliments. I've been going here a long time, and I've got nothing but good things to say about Dr. Pearson and Dr. Chang. Both of them are courteous and professional. I have no problems with their competence. If you need an eye exam, this is a good place to get it. However, don't get your glasses or contacts here. The staff insist that their products are better than what you'd get elsewhere, and that they really know more about the field than people at Costco or the mall places. I doubt that. First of all, their selection of frames is very limited. I don't find that a terrible disadvantage (because it makes it easier to decide) but keep in mind that you're not going to have more than 20 frames to choose from (if that.) Secondly, the frames and lenses are much more expensive than I expected. They claim it's because their quality and customer service is so much better, that the cheapy online places (and Costco) don't work to make it exactly what you want. I guess I fell for it. Here's the thing: last time I got glasses here, five or six years ago, I wasn't happy with them. I got the transitions, and the first pair had a huge flaw, so they had to send them back. And then the second pair didn't ever seem to be dark enough. They took a long time to switch from dark to light, and I didn't like them. This time, I didn't get the transitions, but I got some higher-end lenses (which insurance barely covered any of.) The sales guy talked me into paying for some stuff that honestly, I'm not sure they actually gave me, because I lost so much trust for the optician staff during this glasses process. Too many times they told me something would happen (glasses will be in by Thursday, eg.) that turned out to be not true. They told me it would take 1-2 weeks to get my glasses (don't other places do it in an hour?) Two weeks after I ordered them, they called to say that they came in, but that they were flawed so they had to send them back. Two weeks after that, I called to ask about them, and they said that they were on their way, but that the sunglass clips hadn't been made. Two weeks after that, I was finally able to get them. Aaaaand, for some inexplicable reason, the optician decided to make the weaker lens coke-bottle thick (I paid for the medium index lenses) so that it was not only ugly, and four times as thick as it needed to be, but it didn't match the thickness of the right side. They were uncomfortable and I wasn't happy with them, but the staff said there was nothing wrong with the glasses and I should just take them with me on my trip. I took them, but was only able to wear them for a few hours before they drove me nuts. After my trip, I brought them back and made them re-do the left lens. Finally got them, 10 weeks after I ordered them, and I noticed one of the arms had a screw loose. Brand new glasses! One of the staff tried to get the screw in, but after scratching the finish and nearly stripping the screw, he admitted that he didn't have the tools to do it so I should take them to an eyeglass repair place he recommended. Brand new glasses! I took them to the repair place and the guy there got the screw in for less than $12, but I don't feel I should have had to pay anything at all to repair expensive glasses that had been worn less than 6 hours. Again, I have no problem with the doctors. The doctors are both good. The staff are courteous and try hard to make things right, but I have zero confidence in them. I don't trust them to order the glasses right, I don't trust them to adjust them properly, and I just plain don't think they're competent. I feel like I got ripped off, and that considering the problems I had with my previous pair of glasses I got here, I should have known better. Shame on me for getting duped a second time. I spent 10 weeks and $450 to learn that my mother was right--I should have got my eyeglasses at Costco. read more

I have been looking for a new eye doctor and I really enjoyed this place. The office is located in a small building off of Rural and Southern. They have pretty good hours and everyone seems to be happy to be there. When I first came in, they had machines that calibrated my eye pressure, color blindness and perception. After that I went in for my exam. My doctor was extremely thorough and made sure my contacts were perfect before I left. They even have a little section to shop for glasses. A man that assisted me with finding a pair was so enthusiastic. I had never thought that glass shopping could be so much fun! Plus my contacts and glasses came in a timely manner.
