To begin with, we did not choose for my wife to go to Natividad Hospital. In fact, my wife begged the firemen to take her to Memorial Hospital and not Natividad. We didn't know much about Natividad Hospital, but what we had heard about was not good. She has Medicare, and because she has had some health issues over the years, we purchased the best Medicare Supplement available and can go to any hospital we want. But because we live closer to Natividad, the firemen told us that they had to take her to Natividad. At the time, we didn't know how serious her injury from her fall was, but she was definitely in a lot of pain and knew she needed to go to a hospital. I went to the ER to see her that night. They were still taking X-rays, etc. to determine what was wrong. When I left after about an hour and a half, I still didn't know what her injury was. I went back in the morning and was informed that she had broken her hip, and they would be having surgery that afternoon. When I left the hospital, I didn't know what was going to be done. My wife has had four back surgeries over the years all performed by Dr. Gus Halamandaris. We didn't pick his name out of a hat to have him do the initial surgery on her back. It was based on recommendations we had received on him and after meeting with him to discuss the surgery he was going to perform on her. This was not the case at Natividad. And because this was an emergency, there was not time for us to go shopping for a surgeon, and we understand that. Had it been a surgery because of a degenerative nature, and had time, we certainly would have and had the surgery performed and chosen a different hospital to have it done. I didn't even know the name of the surgeon who would be performing the surgery on my wife, much less what was going to be done. She was scheduled to go into surgery at 2 pm. I called at 5:30 and was told that her surgery had been delayed and that she had just gone into to surgery. I called again at 8:30 to see if she was out of surgery and was told that she was still in surgery and I was assured that I would get a call when she was out of surgery. I never got that call. I finally called again at 9:30 and was told she was out of surgery and would be transferred to a room. After each of the four surgeries Dr. Halmandaris performed on my wife, he would come and see me if I was at the hospital or call me at home to let me know how the surgery went. When I left the hospital the following day, I still didn't even know her surgeons' name or exactly what had been done. It wasn't until two days later that we were told by a nurse that she had a partial hip replacement. After a short stay in the hospital, my wife was transferred to the Sam Karas Acute Rehab Center, which is on the same site as the hospital. But that is a separate story. After she was released from the Rehab Center, we had to return to the hospital to meet with her surgeon for a follow up. We were told to be there by 9:15, which we were. We didn't meet with her surgeon until almost 3 hours later. After he went over her operation, he said he wanted us to return in about a month for another checkup. I told him that we wouldn't be returning and that we would go to another orthopedic surgeon who has in private practice for any future follow ups. There is no way we were going to spend 3 hours waiting to see a doctor we had an appointment with; plus the distance we had to traverse from the parking lot to where we had to go to me with him. He told us that we didn't have to do that and we could just go to our family doctor for any follow ups. As far as her stay in the hospital, we were relatively satisfied with it other than the food is absolutely horrible. Fortunately, she didn't have much of an appetite. I have been a strong proponent of universal healthcare because I believe it should be a right to have access to have medical care. However, if this an example of what universal healthcare looks like, I may have to reevaluate that opinion. It should be better than this. read more

I was taken to the hospital by a police officer because I was attacked sexually in seaside/sand city. (Please be careful ladies because the person was still not caught and is still out there somewhere!) Anyways, I was so emotionally exhausted that I believe I just mentally crashed when given a bed and was finally safe. Natividad staff was nice and just let me sleep and rest while they gave me medication etc. I ended up staying there as a patient for 2 days. The staff was very kind in being sensitive when asking question or preforming uncomfortable tasks about the situation but when I was moved to a different part of the hospital, or basically no longer an Emergency Room Patient anymore, things definitely changed!!! I was taken to a part of the hospital where they basically strip you down and take pictures of you to send to the police to help them create a police report. I am glad that I had more say in the matter than the lady was actually putting off and I was able to say no to a few things that I felt very uncomfortable with, especially because the cops would be receiving these documents and who knows what they would actually do with this information. Anyways the lady taking these pictures and preforming tests was a very cold individual. She wasn't very comforting during this process at all. She did have an assistant with her that I was very grateful for...she said she was going to be there the next day when I was going to have to come back to complete the rest of the testing and come to find out she never showed. That actually really upset me because I was feeling very vulnerable and uneasy during this whole process. I also have major trust issues and don't open up to random people but for some reason I really liked her. Instead of her they had a different person come and advocate and try and support me and my needs I guess. It was a male and to be honest I was extremely upset and uncomfortable about this. It was awkward. I thought that I was going to get a referral to a DV shelter or somewhere safe to go for like a week or at least a night. ...seeing as I am a single female and am currently homeless on the streets by myself with nothing to protect myself. They also hadn't caught the guy that assaulted me yet and I really honestly was very scared. I tried calling shelters but everyone was full and just put me on a wait list! I was given a Visa card that had $250 on it, they said for me to get a hotel room for a night so that I would be safe?!!?!?!? I was very grateful but the card ended up getting stollen and I received literally no money or support at all!!! I immediately called them back and explained what had happened and how it was stollen but they said that they could not do anything more for me and that was that!!! I was very grateful at first because I was told I was going to get all this help and wouldn't have to worry...I would have a place that's safe to stay...That was not the case at all!!! I received x1 Visa card with $250 that got stollen and so basically I received no help at all! I really would have thought Natividad would have done a lot better than what was received! I really pray that no one has to go through what I went through at Natividad. I really hope that they get more resources to help females like myself, who doesn't have anyone. I know they have to have the money/resources to at least do better then what was provided to me when I was attacked...but I literally got NOTHING!!! Horrible experience here. I went in last night for a car accident (passenger v car) and I was in severe pain and my leg bleeding and unable to walk properly. All they did was give me Tylenol and an ice pack, and sat me in the lobby. No clean up on the wound or nothing, my husband and father had to literally tell the staff to get something to cover it and even then the staff was so slow and unwilling to help. Ended Up leaving after x rays because I had already been there 3 hours and no updates or help that was asked for. HIGHLY DONT recommend this hospital if you want proper care. read more

The worst ER experience I have ever had with my 13 year old. I took him on a Wednesday night for severe leg pain he was losing strength and was painful to stand or even walk. The attending doctor told me that she understood he had pain but she couldn't do anything about it. She even told me to send him to school the next day. Well by Saturday morning he was having emergency surgery at Lucile Packard children hospital ( by the way best hospital ever) because they found he had a herniated disc. The nurses and doctors here have been extremely helpful. My wife had a health scare and had a mild heart attack. They were quick to treat her and get her a room. LABOR AND MATERNITY Brought my daughter in for some testing and Xochiyl E, Maternity Unit Clerk, should definitely not be working here. She cut me off while I was explaining the reason for our visit, demanding that my child answer. I understand giving the patient autonomy but my teenager still needed me to help her through this new process, which was evident by her saying, "I'm not sure" before I even started talking. She continued to be short with me, even when I just asked which medical card she needed from me. Another staff member came over to ask her something and she snapped at her too. A professional who cannot multitask or emotionally regulate should not be employed in the maternity department. Once in the room, the nurse completely ignored me, even my direct questions. Admissions called and the nurse wouldn't let me answer, so my daughter stumbled through answering questions and she made several errors that I couldn't correct. read more

I'm super appalled and disappointed. My friend's child went to NMC ER last week (about 3 days ago). He had been beaten with a pipe around his face and head. You can see in these photos how deep and jagged these lacerations are. NMC decided on no stitches and no clean up. You can see now these are infected and filled with pus. He is still freely bleeding. There are many more on other parts of his head that we didn't take pictures of. I just cannot believe that the hospital didn't give him appropriate care. How is this permitted? One of the nurses in the emergency room department, Abigail M, needs to be spoken to about the way she interacts with patients. I was there for three hours in a car accident with a broken wrist and not once did she give me an update and took forever to attend to me. Then she proceeded to get mad when asked for my IV to be removed.. I had already been discharged. All I was waiting for was my IV to be removed and she never once came in to tell me that she was busy and that it would be a little while before she got to me. She gave me a lot of attitude when I kept asking, but if she had updated me, I would never have said a word. Updating patients in a hospital setting is everything as the anxiety builds up as you're waiting, a little update goes a long way. Abigail M provided little to no care and was very cold. read more

I was in trauma over the weekend for a horrible mountain biking accident. I had open wounds all over my body that no one ever cleaned. I had a shoulder immobilizer that was not put on properly in fact, they used the bicep holder on my forearm resulting in more pain since I had nothing to keep my shoulder from moving around. I had to use the restroom they told me to wait 45 minutes for tests to come back hours later that never happened.... So they used some suction thing on me they did not set up right which resulted in me peeing on myself. I kept asking for water and they said not until CT scans came back , hours later they finally let me have water only to find out they didn't have my CT scans back.... That made no sense to me. My nurse changed a total of five times... the care I received was subpar if that! When it was finally time to leave I reminded them that I had no clothes since they were all cut off.... So they proceeded to give me paper scrubs that were so big I kept tripping on them, and they were so rough with me when putting them on forcing me to raise the arm with the broken in half collarbone above my head I almost passed out from the pain. But it doesn't stop there, the doctor who shows up as being in-network all of a sudden drops out and his office saying so sorry we can't help. As the nightmare continues, I've requested a copy of my images on a CD multiple times to only hear we will let you know when they are ready. Mind you this is so I can see an orthopedic surgeon to get the care I need. But the only response i keep getting is, we'll let you know when it's ready, they are being very vague as in not letting me know when I can get them. This means THEY ARE KEEPING ME FROM GETTING THE CARE I NEED BUT THEY TRULY DO NOT CARE. And this is with the director Kim Williams being involved which means they are all holding my images and keeping me from getting care! I'm a human being, for crying out loud what the heck???? I had no choice in the hospital I was taken to due to the severity of my accident.... They are the only trauma center in this area.... I'm at a loss for words in how I've been treated, mishandled and disregarded! Meanwhile, I can't get the care I need since they are holding my imaging and not giving me the CD I requested! I'm in a nightmare and each day it gets worse! The sad part, I pay a lot of money for my Anthem Blue Cross Silver 70 EPO Policy which is supposed to cover me when stuff like this happens, but instead everyone is shutting the door in my face whist I sit here with a fractured clavicle.... It's the only plan an individual who is self employed can get in Monterey county.... I have called in December 2021 and January 2022 but no one has returned my call/message. It makes you feel that their concern is questionable. My wife came in with serious emergency health problems. And was treated with the most kindness,and respect. From the front office, intake, nurses, security guards, radiologists, even the staff that transported her from room to room were so awesome. Parking was not a problem, Salinas PD let me park right in the front to unload for an min.Special shout to our nurse Alex. Dude was amazingly kind and patient, and empathetic to all our medical needs. The radiology nurse Amanda was super gentle and informative, so was Chris and Nattily.We need more staff members like the team at natividad medical center!!! Some of the worse medical mistreatment I've ever experienced was at the Natividad ER. I'd give 0 stars if possible. I went to the ER because of kidney stone pain. But the emergency doctor not only was no help, he abused me, gaslighted me, and threaten me with unnecessary surgery (aka threatening physical harm). Then they charged me over $2000 for a urine sample and a tylenol. I came into the emergency room with extreme back pain and uncontrollable vomiting, which I suspected was a kidney stone (found out later I was right). But the doctor on duty (I'll updated later with his name) was incredulous towards me from the beginning. He came into my exam room talking to a young attractive woman who was a trainee of some sort. He incorrectly stated that "the patient (me) has a history of kidney stones". This was not correct, so despite being in unbelievable pain and vomiting uncontrollably, I managed to verbally explain to the doctor that I had never had a kidney stone before, but I simply suspected it based on my symptoms. He seemed quite miffed that I corrected him in front of the young woman trainee and that I would dare to speculate my own diagnosis. And that's when he started in on his gaslighting abuse. He raised his voice at me and told me that I was probably "just having back spasms". The nurse had gotten a urine sample, and I over-heard the same doctor talking to someone about how my urine sample "had crystals in it" (an indication of potential stones), but then he proceeded to come over to me and kept insisting that what I was experiencing was back spasms, and that he was going to give me pain patches for it. He was straight up lying to my face. By this time the stone had passed into my bladder, and I could think a little more clearly because I wasn't in tremendous pain. So, I politely questioned him about it by asking, "oh are you sure? the pain I had was sharp and in a small area, and slowly moved down from my right kidney to my lower right abdomen." He got a look of rage in his eyes, and then he said "well, maybe it's your appendix and I'll have to cut it out." Then he just stared at me with a look that said "shut up, b*tch". So, he went from gaslighting me about muscle spasms to threatening me with medical assault (aka knowingly performing unnecessary surgery on a patient), by threating me with removal of a perfectly health body part. This is atrocious, abusive, and violent behavior, and this doctor should not be allowed to practice. There is absolutely no justification for this type of conduct from the doctor. It is gross negligence and bullying at best, and abuse and threats of bodily harm at worst. And to top it all off, I got sent home with a bill for over $2000, when all they did was give me 1 anti-nausea medication, a tylenol, and did a urine sample. So 2 pills and a piss cup = $2k+. A shameless scam and taking advantage of people in vulnerable situations. Disgusting. After leaving the ER, I passed the stone into the toilet at home. I literally felt it come out and saw it in the toilet. I saved it and had my regular doctor's office analyze it. I was relieved that it was over and nothing serious, but I was furious and betrayed that I got psychologically abused by a "professional" doctor while in the worse physical pain of my life. I have been trying to schedule an appointment for a ultrasound on my liver. Initially I needed to have my doctor send the reference. So that was sent around Oct 2. I waited for a phone call for the appointment. It is now Oct 26 and no phone call. I confirmed they received the reference. Kathy stated she would call me. This time Jennifer stated she would bring it to her supervisor and he would take care of it. So it is now Oct 28 and still awaiting for my appointment. This is terrible! read more

The nurses are great, compassionate and caring. The Drs are so busy but good if you get to see one. The level of care this hospital provides it good but everything is so ssllloooowwww. Especially getting test results. It literally took over 24 hours to get test results. So that was an extra unnecessary days stay. The food is horrendous. Everything is over cooked and dry. The chicken and fish were like jerky. Boring dry flavorless hamburger. They only served decafe coffee and tea. Everything we tried was terrible. They must have the same staff as the prison near by. Your Lucky to get a menu. Had to ask 5 times, 5 different people, even asked the nutritionist, nothing. We got the menu the 3rd day. So basically you get what ever is leftover. Parking here is also horrendous. Especially when the farmers market is going on it's really tuff to find a spot anywhere. They seriously need a multiple level parking garage. read more

I just had my first baby on June 11th 2021 at Natividad Medical Center. I want to say thank you to all the Labor and Delivery staff, who did an amazing job at caring for me! They made a point to stick to my birth plan and only made changes to it when I was sure about wanting to do anything differently along the way. As a patient, I felt heard. I felt like my wishes and choices were taken seriously and valued. (This is a HUGE deal.) Every step of the way, all staff seemed calm, friendly, patient, focused on providing the best care for myself and my baby. I had such a wonderful experience delivering at NMC that I don't think I would consider delivering a baby anywhere else in the future. Thank you again - the awards NMC has received for maternity care are definitely well deserved!! *I also highly recommend utilizing the Lactation Clinic if you ever have questions or concerns about breastfeeding. I went in to talk to someone about some concerns and questions I had about breastfeeding my newborn. The suggestions and help I received worked and the issues I felt I was having were resolved the same day. My baby was doing so much better by the end of the same day I got help. My son was seen in the ER on 7/8/19 I wanted to ensure that the insurance information was entered correctly to avoid any possible billing issues I called the main hospital line requested to be transferred to ER registration. My call was transferred smoothly and efficiently. Kim with ER registration answered the phone. I explained that my son was currently in the ER department brought in by ambulance and I wanted to confirm he gave the correct insurance information. Kim reply was "I am working the front I cannot do that" My reply to Kim was YES you can and you should but since you are refusing to help me please transfer me to someone who can. Kim transferred me to the admitting department. Phone just rang and rang then I got an automated msg asking me to leave a msg. I called the main hospital number back. PBX operator must have recognized my voice because she took the time to inquire why I was calling back again. I explained that my son was currently in the ER being treated and I just want to confirm insurance is documented correctly. I was trying to be proactive rather than reactive.... PBX operator stated she understood why I was calling and placed me on hold. She then transferred me to Maribel with ER registration. I went over the above info again with Maribel. Maribel was confused as to why Kim would transfer my call to admitting if admitting was closed.... SMH Maribel took the time out to confirm both primary and 2ndary insurance was given and entered correctly. Thank you Maribel and thank you friendly PBX operator (sorry I didnt get her name but the call was made on 7/8/19 around 7:30 pm) I have worked in a hospital setting for over 20 years. This review is specifically for Natividad's COVID-19 vaccine clinic. I just had my second dose this morning and both were in the morning. It was super fast, I got in line, for literally like 1 minute before I got called. I had to show verification that I was eligible (school principal badge) and ID. It was over in just 2 more minutes. They do make you wait 15 minutes after the vaccine to assure you're not having a reaction. You can wait in the socially distant lobby or in the outdoor seating area (with outdoor heaters). You show the personnel your time card at your outgoing time and they let you go. In and out, super easy. I got the Pfizer vaccine and my side effects were super mild. Let's see how I feel tomorrow after my second shot. read more

We took our daughter to the ER yesterday because she was extremely sick. They did a nasal test for a few things. They discharge us and tell us we will notify you within 2 hours of the results. A whole day later, she's not improving so we go to the dr. They tell us she's positive and has an ear infection. They didn't say positive for what do they assumed covid. So my spouse exposed her work since they never informed us. You're playing with people's lives! Two days later, i go in person since they refused to give me the results. Turns out she had rsv! They have the right phone numbers and email especially because they sent the how did we do survey. Their excuse is they have me on a waiting list to inform me. She is having trouble breathing and they don't at least prescribe an inhaler or something to help. It's been 2 days and they still haven't called. When you don't take a child's life seriously but you're quick to charge my insurance, how can you call yourselves doctors read more

I would like to share our experience with my 8 year old daughter who was seen in the ER. Miss.Christina her nurse was awesome, my daughter was in pain and scared as this was her first time in the ER and Miss. Christina spoke to her with kindness and care. My daughter loved her and said she didn't not feel any pokes from the needle. Keep in mind there were other patients who were adults, yelling and cussing but Miss. Christina ensured to keep my daughter calm. A social worker also came in to check on my daughter and gave her coloring sheets and pencils to keep her occupied which kept my daughter busy and lost focus on the patients yelling. Everyone is quick to post complaints and negativity but our experience was by far from this, thank you Miss. Christina & staff!! read more

I never write reviews but due to my experiences I have no choice. The staff here is extremely rude and lack compassion about their patients and family. How can health care professionals work in health care and not care? How can they care for others and be so rude? You work in healthcare, you choose this profession why be rude and lack sympathy and compassion for what you have chosen to do? Just because this is the only place in the area or some may not have insurance and others do this is a medical center and everyone should be treated the same and with respect This place is a disgrace and needs to be shut down. No medical center should be ran like this. However the ONLY good encounter I recieved was from Dr. Arnold. Someone that seems to care. I was in the ER at around 11:30 on a Sunday night with symptoms of high blood pressure, leg cramps, swollen ankles, and feet, headache, nausea which I take nausea pills, but would like to find out why I am nauseous instead of taking the pills all the time. When I saw the doctor, he told us that I would be taking bloodwork and when he got the results he would get back to me.i told him that heart disease runs in my moms side of the family and every one has died of it besides my Mom who died of pancreatic cancer 3 years ago. Well 6:30 am comes and and I'm being discharged from some. I don't even know if she was a nurse that gives me paperwork and tells me I'm being prescribed ibuprofen and I have stomach issues. Anybody knows that if you have stomach problems ibuprofen is not gonna help you it will harm you. and I never saw the doctor again. I had an appointment with my regular MD the next day for a Pap smear so when I saw her I asked her to go over my bloodwork and she said no I was in there for a Pap smear I said I don't give a damn about my vagina can you please check my blood work she said I'm sorry you have an appointment in two weeks we can go over it then. REALLY ??? A week later on Thursday I saw my psychiatrist who got a copy of the results and said I was anemic I needed to be on iron, and it would take at least two months to start feeling better and that my blood pressure was very high. I told her I need to see a cardiologist.im worried about my heart!!! So it took my psychiatrist the only of 3 doctors to seriously finally look at my bloodwork results and tell me I was anemic and put me on iron pills. I cannot stand Yelp and it's negative review frenzy. However, after the experience at Natividad yesterday evening I cannot leave things unsaid. Without going into too much detail, I went to the ER in extreme pain seeking any type of assistance (non-narcotic or otherwise - shoot, give me extra strength ibuprofen) and was treated like a nuisance. I can't begin to explain the pain I felt, it's left me traumatized and I'm afraid something like this will happen again. The staff and doctors treated me like an annoyance and discarded my pleas, assuming I was med-seeking (this is a guess but, hey. What else). Again, NON NARCOTIC would have been preferred. The ER Dr. interrupted me mid sentence and said "I'm not giving you anything". The helplessness I felt in that moment. Never going back to this shithole again. read more

I've had very few issues with Natividad Medical Center in the years I've been going there as a patient. Dr. Swan in the Specialty Clinic is my attending doctor & I'm very happy with my treatment plan. I also receive physical therapy & I give the Physical Therapy clinic at NMC an A++ for excellence. Those therapists know what they're doing. They have some nice machines there to work with as well. Hospital staff are friendly & welcoming for the most part, making people feel at home when they're there. The hospital is also kept clean. I always see cleaning going on & that's a sign of a healthy medical environment. read more

There was some lady crying her eyes out on the floor, in excruciating pain, and no one cared. Other people waiting in ER would notify the staff and they would simply reply "Ok." There was a moment in which the lady ended up stumbling inside of the men's restroom and was bawling and laying on the ground. People would again inform staff, although the restroom was close enough to where they could see. Again, delayed response. I have never seen a hospital being so unfeeling and uncaring. The nurses are constantly smiling while on their cell phones instead of getting work done. Must be on IG or cheating on their dopey husbands/boyfriends/baby daddy's to give a dang. I had a medical assistant try to guilt me, telling me that "they are pretty busy and I probably shouldn't have come for what I did." I went because I had the symptoms of an aneurysm! Not only that, when he came into the room, he addressed my wife instead of me. The idiot couldn't even tell who the patient was, based on the charts. These people truly suck. They are part of the reason Salinas is such a drab and gloomy pace. No one seems to care. I only came here due to emergency, but I learned my lesson. Not only that, there are numerous accounts of poor care and malpractice going on at this hospital. Go elsewhere if you can. You have been warned. read more

In this day and age where access to information is online it is beyond my comprehension why to pay a bill to this hospital your required to call their business office. Not only is it understaffed resulting in extended hold times but you get disconnected by representatives if your not able to reel off a 12 digit account #. For the amount your charged for their services I would think it would make sense to either staff receivables well or better yet get into the 21st century by doing online bill pay....utterly disgusting and obviously no regard for people's time. read more
