    Patio site #3
    Meredith S.

Super easy on and off from 81! It's clean, well maintained and the staff are super friendly. We stayed in a patio site (it was nice not to have to get out our grill and then clean it). The site was gravel and fairly level. The sites are decent sized, but like every KOA we have stayed in, they are on top of each other. This is a great home base for seeing the attractions in the area, it's right around the corner from the Safari Park (that's worth a visit) and Natural Bridge State Park. We'll definitely stay here again.

Super easy on/ super easy off 81 and it's a campground with character. Rare to find. Thanks for a great stay and a accommodating an early check in for 2 hungover travelers And the free range chickens coming by our morning campfire was a bonus

This was a beautiful KOA. We were in a big rig and had a deluxe patio. Our entire row had a view of the forest line, which was really nice in the morning. One of the nicest KOA's I have ever stayed at, would definitely come here again.

First time at a KOA. The staff is very friendly, the facilities are immaculate, and the camping areas have plenty of space for an expansive set up. We were in tent space 48, which was very private and had a lot of trees over it so we were able to sleep in fairly late. The bathrooms were as clean as a hotel and the shower had great water pressure. Due to covid there was a pool sign up which we didn't have time to do but it looked clean. Amazing stay! It felt more like a low budget glamping experience -- 10/10 would do again

It is early November and We were traveling back to Maryland from Tennessee and were trying to beat some snow that was moving in, so we needed a place to stop and it was late. We called ahead and the girl at the front desk was amazing. So friendly and accommodating. When we arrived at 11 pm there was a map & note telling us to call a # for an escort t our site. We were sitting there contemplating whether or not to call that late and a guy in a golf cart showed up to show us to our site. He was waiting on us and he was also very friendly and didn't seem to mind at all how late we were. We slept in the next morning and took a short walk before leaving. Beautiful, well kept campground. Not huge but seemed to have some nice amenities for the size. Loved the free roaming chickens in front of the office. Nice large pull thru sites. Easy on And off access to 81! We will be back!

Better than most other KOA's Most recent stay was June 19th thru June 22nd 2017 - I'm "late" in posting my review ~ We camp in a Little Rig "Tear Drop" style RV only 15' long w/o toilet or shower ~ plus we like to eat outdoors using the picnic table and set up our dining canopy for sun and weather protection and thus rely on condition of campgrounds facilities and being nearby our site ~ so our critique is focused in that area We didn't get as close to the restroom/shower building as we would have liked, but our site was more private than a lot of others. The building was roomy with ample # of stalls and sinks at the vanity area plus appeared to have been remodeled/updated with full on tile walls and floors, fixtures, and stalls. It was clean plus good ventilation with the AC during heat of summer. Nice conveniences in shower stalls with hooks for towels and clothes, shelves for toiletries, and a bench in private changing area. Only wish is for rubber floor mats to help keep feet off wet floor. Sink area had paper towels to help clean up after use (nice convenience) but wish for hooks between mirrors for hand towel Usually don't like KOA's but this one is better than most because of more spacing between sites and selection of sites due to their aesthetics, some with grass, trees, picnic table area, privacy along with the special tent sites, and the rental cabins/tiny houses, sparkling swimming pool etc. However, each site is still quite narrow even with a gravel "patio type" extension for the picnic tables. Must mention this place is somewhat hilly and could require blocking to level your rv [checkout all my photo's] and also a work in process renovating/improving various campsites; a thumbs up to the owners who show they really do care.

We are a kamping family and brought our friends for their families first camping trip! Never before have a found a campsite with such clean bathrooms, showers and laundry rooms! The activities here for kids are great, swimming, ice cream, scavenger hunts, game rooms and train/wagon rides! The staff here is very friendly and at tentative to your needs and request. They address issues right on the spot! This is our second trip here and we love this campground. They have upgraded many of the cabins and facilities here.

    Pretty foggy morning

Only stayed one night but it was a nice spot to stay. Close to Downtown Lexington, nice spacious sites. My dog and I enjoyed the Halloween decorated nature trail, dog park, and seeing the goats! Game room, picnic areas, bath houses looked nice but did not use any of them. The people on the site next to mine said the amenities were great!

Each site comes with its own attached lantern!

Just a lovely little campground with close proximity to the natural bridge. My favorite feature was the flat surfaces with fenced in parameter for setting up your tent!!

The drive over to the start of our day trip was pleasant in an air conditioned van and the guide driving us pointed out baby deer and an eagle's nest which was awesome. The canoeing day itself was beautiful and the trip was just the right length for us. There were four adults in our group-- I think with kids you would want to ask for a closer drop off point because it was a LOT of paddling. The canoes were nice and they helped us carry them down to the launch point and gave us a run down of the rapids we would pass which was helpful to avoid overly shallow or rocky areas. We were the only ones canoeing that day which was so nice! I would love to do this again in the fall when the leaves are changing!

We stayed at campsites 30, 31, and 32, which are at one end of the campground and feel more secluded, farther away from the other campsites. This means your car is not right next to your site, but we didn't mind walking back and forth (slightly uphill, along a path); we recently bought a collapsible utility wagon that was super helpful in carrying big things to and from the site. The sites sit higher above the river, so it's a bit steep if you want to go down and enjoy the water, but you can do so carefully and it's well worth it. You will love sitting by your fire, listening to the rushing river and feeling like you're in the middle of nowhere, even though many luxuries like flush toilets, hot showers, and even a camp store are just steps away. No need to bring ice or firewood; the camp provides them at an added reasonable cost (but bring an axe to help break up the logs in case the wood is damp or fresh). Bring a grill-top for the firepit if you plan to cook. Keep in mind that the campsites are not very large; ask AJ when you book if your tent will fit. There's plenty to do in the area: Hike Crabtree Falls, taste beers at Devil's Backbone or Blue Mountain Breweries, enjoy ciders at Bold Rock, and next time we'll try the distilleries. Crabtree Falls is definitely my favorite campground in all of Virginia!

The campground is well-maintained, clean, and has a number of amenities that make camping convenient. Campers have access to flush toilets as well as showers. The facilities aren't particularly fancy but it's camping -- if you wanted fancy, you should stay indoors :) Prices were reasonable as well. $15 a night for a single site. Single site campsites come with a large parking space, a picnic table, and a firepit. Most of the spots are well shaded, and there is easily enough space for a large family tent or a few smaller tents. The campground has access to a number of trail heads and within a short driving distance, even more trails are available. Some trails are short and suitable for beginning hikers, others more challenging with steep inclines and a number of switchbacks up the mountain. Some are also perfect for day hikes as well. Located nearby is the Appalachian Trail as well as the James River (one can rent kayaks, canoes, etc.). The campground is nearby to Natural Bridge, VA -- which has a large natural bridge one can pay to see -- and Lexington, VA -- which has a cute downtown area to walk through and some nice restaurants to eat at.
