This is probably one of my favorite Natural Grocer's stores. Why? Because it's the original one. It was the 1st one back in 1958. The original name was actually The Builder's Foundation which began in 1955. It is a Colorado based business and the founder's, Margaret and Philip Isely, went door to door to selling whole-grain bread and to loan out books on nutrition. That is dedication! In the 1960's, they changed the name to Vitamin Cottage. They also have 5 children who were part of the business, including one named Heather (no, not me!) I love this location for how easy it is to get in and out of. It is located on West Colfax, south side of the street, just East of Garrison. There is plenty of parking and they were promoting reusable bags before it became 'popular' and now is a mandate/law in Colorado as of January 1st 2023. Their prices are reasonable. However, they do deal with inventory and supply issues just like everyone else. I typically call ahead of time for my specific yogurt and water. Their hours are 8:30am-8:30pm, or close to that. Never wait until last minute though! I hope they start getting more shipments of Honey Stinger Organic Energy Chews. The Orange Blossom is my favorite and they seem to be frequently out. Prices have also been very high in the last few years. I use to purchase them for $1/each to $1-25 each. Now they run $2.50-$3.30 each one! Almost everything they have is organic. I don't want to say everything for sure, but I feel confident most in the store is. Their staff has always been friendly and helpful. Sometimes you do need to remind them about having a rewards account to put your number in. Throughout the year they give out random items like honey sticks or chocolate bars. read more

They are friendly and kind. I have a service dog I have for medical alert purposes and I wasn't questioned or harassed once. At checkout I had to transfer money from one account to another and the whole staff pitched in so those behind me wouldn't have to wait while still being empathetic and present with me. They even cheered me on when everything was paid for and they offered multiple times to help me unload my groceries. I will definitely go back. read more

How about updating hours?Almost can guarantee this place won't be around in 5 years.. people are trying to cook Christmas dinner and you can't update hours?? Not a grocery store.. more of a waste of my time risking whether or not y'all will be open. No thanks. read more

This location is probably the most low-key location around. Same great prices, all organic produce, Udi's pre-packaged sandwiches, and the best discount section! Definitely worth coming here for the more mellow shopping experience...but I didn't tell ya that! Shhhhh!! read more

This store is fairly small and the produce section is too. The vitamin and pills and supplements selection is huge though. I really like this store. You know that when you buy yogourt there, it's milk and yeast. No need to read the stickers 25 times (go to whole food and read yogourts ingredients, eurk, gelatin and pectin and anything you don't want in a yogurt). They also have 'pre-bagged bulk' with cool stuff (dry mango, dry cherries ). read more

Great service and a large selection is what you'll find at this Vitamin Cottage. Every time I've been in this store and had a question I've had no trouble getting help, and that help doesn't come with an attitude! Being on West Colfax it doesn't get as much traffic as some of the other Vitamin Cottages but that makes it easier to get in and out. Quick Fact: The very first Natural Grocers location in Denver was located right behind this store. While that location is closed and only marked with a sign, a drive by will quickly show how much they've expanded over the years. Love. Go there approximately once a week for staple items like produce, nuts, grains, etc. Service is always excellent; vitamin selection is extensive and so is the cosmetics/beauty section. One star off for parking, though. It's always a drag and/or a hazard. But I'll deal with it to get to the good food! read more

I have a love-hate relationship with Natural Grocers, particularly the smaller stores like this. It's super frustrating to go to the store for something basic like chicken, and have them be out (which seems to happen a lot). Place is a mini trader joes. Maybe it is a trader joes of Denver. Everything you can possibly find is organic right down to the cereal. If I were to come back to Lakewood I would very much likely come here over safeway for produce. read more

Despite coming in 10 minutes to closing (oops!), the staff was nice and friendly. We didn't have time to look around, but we enjoyed looking at their available spices. From what I saw, their bagged spices are reasonably priced, alone with jars you can buy to put them in. Checking out was quick and easy, and we'll definitely be back when we have more time to browse. read more

Hooray for this neat little store! Love the "country" feel to this place. Has everything nicely sorted displayed and easily found. Lots of organic produce and dried dates, walnuts and various types of "healthy" protein bars, nuts and that great soy ice cream at lower prices than I'm used to seeing in my hometown. Store is small. Parking is tight. Near Safeway. Nice and clean. Staff will offer to help me find something. Problem is there is only three check out, and usually, I would find one. If there is a build up of lines, then they will open another one. If those two have long lines, they will open a third check out. However, why allow the lines to grow longer in the first place? I love Natural grocers, but for some reason this smaller store never has what I need. I pretty much buy the same items everytime I shop. The majority of the staff here are pleasant to deal with. I will just keep going to the larger store in Wheatridge so I only have to make one trip. read more

Like it. Good selection of products. One could shop here all the time or use it to supplement other "standard" groceries with some good quality foods. Friendly service. Produce looked nice. As other whole-foods/organic markets evolve to suit their demographic, this one has become my go-to. Unpretentious, with great staff help, great prices and a good selection. I do have to go to a different Vitamin cottage to stock up on non-homogenized milk and whole-milk yogurt in glass. Yet, I still relish the scale of this store. You can't help but be inspired to eat and live healthily. Also, while other Vitamin Cottages have non-helpful staffs, this one is the opposite. I also have found the least mistakes on my items at checkout, at this Vitamin Cottage (unlike the Glendale store, which erred on 1-2 items each and every time I went.). THANKS, guys! read more
