Their natural products may be wallet-pinching, but if you're looking to be more health conscious and aware of the ingredients you're putting into your body, it's worth the investment to shop smart. Very friendly employees and a lot of them. I was asked 3 or 4 times if I needed any assistance (granted I was wandering around checking everything out, so perhaps I looked a bit lost). I also saw one very, VERY patiently assisting a rather demanding customer, so they get gold stars. Prices were pretty good, and lower on some items than those same products at higher end standard grocery stores. Their vitamin and supplements selection is intense, and nearly takes up as much space as the groceries. My favorite finds were Honey Mama chocolate, gemstone candles, local Amano, Solstice, and Ritual chocolate bars, honeycomb, and Really Raw brand honey. I missed the bulk bins filled with grains, beans, flours, and treats that normally populate natural stores, but I didn't look too hard at the aisle of prepackaged herbs, supplements, and such, and perhaps that area included treats and some of those other goods. Thanksgiving 2020. Like a true self-loathing millennial, I am on the search for turkey alternatives. Following a quick Google search, I found a faux turkey product that said it was available at a few places-including Natural Grocers. I've driven by Natural Grocers hundreds of times, but have never been incentivized to go into the store. Particularly because the thought of trying to cram into some small Sugrhouse parking lot while navigating a cart full of groceries just sounded excruciating. Well, Well, WELL- first of all, my fears surrounding the parking lot were unsubstantiated. Plenty of room, where you can easily enter through the store at the rear. Ironically, Natural Grocers is a lot bigger than it appears from the road. It's still not quite the size of your standard grocer, but it's definitely well on its way. When entering from the north, you'll first be met with the produce section. Decently sized & well stocked with variety. As you walk to the back of the store (or the front, depending on your orientation) you will see some standard amenities: a to-go cold case, frozen section, baking aisle, snack aisle, foreign foods etc, etc. The inventory is definitely geared towards those looking for organic, vegetarian and vegan options. However, everyone will find food here to suit their dietary needs, carnivores & herbivores alike. That said! If you are a vegetarian like me, gold MINE. Lots of fantastic options, from substitutes to entrees that are bountiful in supply. If you're plant based and looking for variety--Natural Grocers is a game changer. In addition to food, NG has a large selection of toiletries,: toothpaste, deodorant, etc. and a MASSIVE selection of vitamins and supplements. And when I say massive I mean MASSIVE. If you've ever needed a vitamin/supplement, it's here. Even things you never conceived could be made into a vitamin, they're here. A couple of things to note. Natural Grocers is still on the more expensive side of the grocery sliding scale. Not quite as expensive as Whole Foods, but only minimally so. And, if you're planning on doing any substantial amount of shopping. Make sure you bring your own bags, (although reusable bags can be purchased at check out) All in all, I'm so glad my search for thanksgiving faux turkey meat sent me to Natural Grocers. While it's probably not the most sustainable for every day shopping trips, it's definitely a wonderful option on occasion for speciality and unique items. read more

And i must say that I'm impressed.It's not a huge store by any means.In fact it's about the size of an average Trader Joe's.It has a great vegan and gluten free selection.Staff is friendly. The only downside is the location.It's difficult to get to the parking lot.Especially if you're coming from up 2100 and Redwood.But it's worth it. read more

Why is a "health food" store hell bent on muzzling their customers? A store that is filled to the roof with natural supplements and immunity boosters is asking you to wear a muzzle. This is the most snotty, rude natural grocers I have been in from Las Vegas all the way to northern Utah. Employee was extremely rude and condescending. Mask "mandates" aren't laws and there are exemptions. As a manager, I would go over protocol again with my employees before lawsuits start piling up. read more

So if you need a reason to go to Natural Grocers, go for their eggs. They charge $3 for organic pasture raised eggs and I haven't seen a deal that good since never. They also have fun sampling days where they give you ideas on how to prepare produce and other items but really, it's just a grocery store that lets me shop guilt-free since they're dedicated to selling ethical products and encourage sustainable shopping practices. Bye Bye - I will not be back to this Sugar House store!!!! I have never had such a bad experience at a grocery store, with a cashier. Other employees mostly ignorant (uniformed of products on shelves) and passive aggressive employees. Gees do I miss the 400 south store. I go to Bountiful semi regularly and may go to that store. Natural Grocers perhaps vetting your employees, (maybe paying them more), answering your corporate numbers, (quit the "working remotely", which is actually -remotely working- jargon. Perhaps your employees at the store level and corporate may end up giving a hoot about one's job in customer service. read more

If I could give more stars I would. This is the best grocery store I've ever been in. I've never seen so many gluten free or vegan items in one place, ever. Not even Whole Foods has the selection natural grocers does, and you can't beat the prices. It was so chill and not crowded when I came in. It made it nice for doing shopping and getting to not feel claustrophobic. I really appreciate this store and all of the items they carry. Like others have said before, if I could give Natural Grocers more than 5 stars, I would. The selection and prices of this store cannot be beat. Nearly half the floorplan is dedicated to beauty and supplements! And a full shopping cart of groceries and household items that would easily run me $200+ at that "other" organic grocery store (you know the one) rings up to around $70 here. #moneyinmypocket Last, but certainly not least, I appreciate that everything in the store is organic, non-GMO, no questions asked. That same "other" organic grocer I used to shop at also sells conventional produce and I had to be more meticulous about reading the labels and/or giving the benefit of the doubt. Not at Natural Grocers. Everything organic, and mostly from small, family operations. So I can shop without fear. PS. Super knowledgeable and friend staff rocks. PPS. I LOVE that they give you a resueable grocery bag the first time you shop at the store and expect you to actually reuse it! Can't say enough good things Natural Grocers! The staff is very helpful and informative. The atmosphere is inviting and the selections are great! All organic produce. A good amount of vegan options on the shelves as well. Their products are always high quality. The prices are typically lower than Whole Foods. It is a smaller grocery store so there's no ready-made counters like a deli and no self-checkout. Not a problem with me tho. It feels more like you're part of the community when you go here. Recently I was sent to the Sugarhouse store because the downtown store was out of a discontinued item. On two separate occasions while trying to retrieve the item, a cashier by the name of Steve was very condescending towards me. Despite the health and beauty aid manager at the downtown store leaving explicit instructions for me to pick up the item at the Sugarhouse store, this still did not deter the store manager (Stacy), Steve and another associate working in the health and beauty department from treating me in a disrespectful manner. It started when the health and beauty aid associate told me either I take the item at the discounted price or leave the store. To be clear; the item was supposed to be discounted at 50% off but both times was marked as 35% off. When I asked to speak directly with the manager, instead of her apologizing for the associate's behavior, she told me not to talk to her associate all because I was trying to defend myself from his rude and unprofessional behavior. Even after I stated I would contact the district office, she continued in this manner. Later that evening I contacted the district office in Colorado and was told by Carol Matthews that she received an email from the store manager and then proceeded to police me on how I responded to the store manager and the sales associates. Not once did I receive an apology for my experience. As a person of color, I will never again patronize any of their establishments. There are plenty of health food stores in the area, in addition to Smith's, Dan's, Walmart and Target now carrying supplements and health food items. read more

I'm really disappointed in the community feel this store has chosen to take. No entrance on 2100 S tells me you only want me if I drive my car. To boot the view in the windows from 2100 S looks like a stock room. You really aren't telling people to stay away, don't look inside and you're only welcome if you come in through the parking lot. Sugar House is a walkable neighborhood, but not with this type of set up. Haven't been in and now I really don't think I ever will. read more

Not only do I think Natural Grocers is a great store that has good quality food, and supports my dietary needs and its sugar-free bacon buoyed my husband and I through our Whole 30's, but they truly care about their customers. In what could have been a vacation nightmare I left my wallet in their restroom on my way out of town. The manager worked me to have it overnighted.
