Overall really great. We were able to find things we really needed that we couldn't fine elsewhere. We were rather disappointed that they didn't have wheat berries which is what we actually came for. However we were able to get some great things. Really like that they use boxes and not bags to pack the groceries for you -- however next time we will remember to bring our reusable bags! This is a hike for us to get here so we likely won't come often, but when we do we will stock up on what we need. read more

This is a great place for those hard to find items or brands. This is our go to place for a those items that aren't carried everywhere. It is also great for those specialty items for food sensitivity's, allergies or preferences. The staff is always so nice and helpful as well. But a heads up they do not provide bags, so bring your own fun reusable bags or buy one on your way out. read more

My visits to Natural Grocer were infrequent at first, until I discovered N-Power! I noticed every time I went, the person in front of me was saving money just by claiming to have this membership and imputing their phone number into the keypad before payment was rendered. I finally signed up at home, and low and behold... my next purchase saved me $2 automatically without me even doing anything, AWESOME! The membership allows you to upload sales/coupons right to your account so there are no coupons to loose on the way to the store or at the bottom of my purse. Convenient much? Yup! The store is small and quaint, but well stocked, and often have some of our regular groceries that we purchase at another store at lower prices. I have recently made my trips more frequent, and love the friendly staff. I appreciate their no-bags policy, as this keeps me mindful to have my grocery sacks handy, but if you forget them, there are boxes aplenty right near the register available for use. They had a very fun Anniversary party recently with discounts and samples as well as giveaways. We did not win the vacation, but did win a nice glass jar to store or liquids in the fridge. NG is my favorite place for buying keto friendly ingredients as much of what we use at home has been of good quality and low in price. I add my Npower rewards and my military discount and I come out with even better buys. As I've made it clear in many of my past reviews, I don't like crowds and I never have this issue here which is another reason I love them. It's a decent size store that's really focused on natural and organic products. The employees are always friendly and willing to assist if needed. I stopped in this week to give this place a try. I won't be back. They were out of quite a few vegetables, had limited overall selections, and had no lettuce at all. The organic cheese I purchased has to be tossed the next day when I opened it and it was full of mold. They do give a military discount which is a nice touch. Apparently they aren't enforcing the mask rule consistently, which may work out for some of you. While I was shopping in their very, very narrow aisles, a woman who was not wearing a mask was sneezing in the aisle. It was not during their specially designated hours for those people who can't wear masks either. They weren't wiping down carts or cleaning checkout areas between customers so if you have health concerns take in your own wipes. As much as I'd love to shop at a smaller, truly health conscious store to get quality products, this isn't the place. read more

I shop here weekly -- sometimes daily! -- and almost always find what I need. Some products are actually far cheaper than H-E-B. Their (pre-packed) bulk section has some great deals. Be sure and look carefully in this area. They have quite a variety including different teas, spices, seeds, lots of nuts, and dried fruit. This is a great store for gluten free shopping. They have a lot of GF and it all marked on the shelf tag. Great deals on eggs. Be sure and sign up as a preferred customer to get money off the eggs. Also they have a military discount. read more

I did not find Natural Grocers to have near the selection that Spouts had. They did have a very large vitamin section though.

They have the best vegan options I have seen. Has variety similar to or greater than Sprout and Whole Foods. It's a little pricey, but so far when I try food products that are new to me, I am pleasantly surprised. read more

I love this place. Everything is organic or non-GMO, which means I don't have to sift through all the fake stuff to get what I want. My only criticism is that someone at the front announces to new customers that this store is bagless, so you have the option of purchasing a re-usable bag at the check out or receive a recyclable box. It was just shocking and a little off-putting that have the cashier tell me so as I was checking out, and I couldn't help but feel a little judged from her. Announcing to new customers as they enter, that the store is bagless mentally prepares the customer for the exchange at the end of the shopping trip. Otherwise, it makes the customer feel like the cashier is judging them or it feels like a push from the store to get ppl to buy re-usable bags. Just my 2 cents. Otherwise, great store. read more

They offer classes and seminars on many products and healthy alternatives. I love the all the variety. This is a great place to find very inique suppliments and products not available elsewhere. If they dont have it they always offer to try and order it for you. They do not use bags here so either bring your own reusable bag or take your purchase home in a box. read more

Really uninspired selection of everything you'd expect from a "natural grocer". Upon entering you'll be hit with the same aromatherapy scents that every other natural grocer hits you with. Is there like a playbook that they read from? The fruits and vegetables looked pretty sad - small and limp for the most part. That's what you get when you don't use science in your farming. But that why they're "natural" grocers. You're going to find the same products from natural foods, to homeopathic stuff, to supplements. They do have a decent selection of frozen Indian products which seem to be common in these grocers. The staff was friendly enough, and the store is clean, although it does appear a tad stuffy. I'm guessing this store is filling a void in the geographical market. read more

This place is a hippy paradise, in the best ways possible. I used to live in Colorado and these stores were everywhere. I am so pumped there's one in San Antonio now. The produce selection is limited in comparison to whole foods but I think damn near everything in there is organic and one employee even told me that everything in the store is non-gmo. I've been to Sprouts, Whole Foods, and Central Market, and would definitely return here. A peaceful environment, neat layout, staff helpful with finding things. Excellent vitamin/supplement selection. Harder to find specialty items such as bread from Julian bakery. Only drawback was small produce section. I was able to find nearly everything on my list except a few produce items. Would definitely recommend. read more

I have been shopping at Natural Grocers ever since this location opened in San Antonio. I was first introduced to their products when I visited my daughter in Albuquerque, New Mexico. So glad we now have 2 stores in San Antonio. The produce is organic and almost everything in the store is non GMO and organic. Eggs are fabulous but I'm disappointed that you can only purchase 4 doz at a time--especially near Easter. I buy eggs for two other daughters who live in town so I go pretty frequently. The staff is VERY helpful. Risa is my favorite cashier. She always greets me with a smile. Love that they have organic spices. Since food is really medicine to the body, if you put food that is healthful in your body you can keep fit and healthy thus when something like a flu or the recent Corona virus hits, you do not have to fear. It is definitely WORTH the trip! read more

So here's the thing-if you are a person who wants organic food without having to spend time roaming the store looking for organic-this is the place for you! You can be confident that whatever you grab is THE best. I have been saying for over a year that I wished we were as lucky as Austin to have a Natural Grocers, and my wishes have been granted. I thought the remark on the previous review about most of the food being prepackaged was funny, because I mean-what's not prepackaged at a grocery store besides the produce and deli if there's one? Lol Granted they don't have a deli, but all they do at a deli is take longer to slice the meat and package it for you. Here the salmon, bison, chicken, and ground meat are ready or frozen depending if you want it tonight or for dinner later in the week. They had a few more options on my favorite Against the Grain pizza brand and Bakery on Main gluten free oatmeal, which I was super happy about. The jerky, bars, and RTD's I normally get are cheaper than HEB or Whole Foods and more variety again here also. Their options for RTD teas, greens, meal replacements, proteins, waters, etc are plentiful! Also, to describe their supplement department as an "organic GNC" is a HUGE understatement and a bit of an insult. If you've been in the nutrition industry as long as I have, you will know the brands that have been around for ages with the highest quality standards, and this place has an unbelievable assortment of them at very good prices. GNC is 70-80% house brand. Natural Grocers easily has more than 50 other brands known in the industry. Service was prompt and pleasant. No, they're not a "local" store, but I'm definitely pleased to see that we are getting more options over here besides HEB with a more organic focused environment. I read that a second location is in the works further south of town closer to my home. I'll be happier when that one opens, but until then I'll be just fine making the trip to my now one stop shop for groceries! read more

In spite of whatever organic or homeopathic items this store may carry, the only lasting impression I always have when I visit here is how it took 5 minutes to grab what I need, and a complete change of seasons stuck in line with 1 out of 5 registers open, and a cashier who chats with every person in line like they just got rescued from a deserted island after 20 years. So....damn.....slow. A cashier at H-E-B could ring up 1000 items and 20 customers in the time these folks price check a bottle of shampoo. This is why Amazon is so successful. Rant over. read more

I like the fact that all the fruits and veggies are organic. I don't like the fact that several times I have wanted to purchase the produce, I found mold on most of the berries. I bring my own bags, so it doesn't matter that they don't supply take home plastic bags. Plastic bags are provided for the produce. If you are a vegan, you will love this store. The employees were knowledgeable about every item I had a question about. If care about not touching the grocery carts before you shop, bring your own wipes. The produce was reasonably priced and looked great. It is not less than HEB or Sprouts for Produce. The store has a nice variety of vitamins and health foods. Vitamin and supplement section is well organized and includes a variety of brands to chose from. They carry a unique selection of products that you can't find at other health food stores and they're definitely more affordable. You can buy just about anything in the store in bulk and receive a 10% discount. They'll even special order items for you! There's also a military discount and loyalty program you can sign up for to save even more! Staff has always been friendly and helpful. Parking is close and lines are always short.
