Overzealous LP dude who must still be upset he failed the Trooper Academy gave my wife grief for smelling the AROMATHERAPY items. He was both rude and inappropriate. 4. The entire store both looks and smells like 1970. 5. My nurse friend is opening up a wellness center that is going to carry updated clean and natural products and have professional staff to help shoppers rather than harass them. read more

I know that's not the only reason. But holy cow.... 27 bucks for mouth wash? 10 dollars tofu I can get somewhere else for half the price, same brand? 8 dollars for gluten free pasta? If you are from the lower 48 states and are looking for something along the lines of Whole Foods/Sprouts/Trader Joes/ Mollie Stones then this is your place. They have a lot of fresh produce, prices are hit and miss. It seems like some items were more expensive than the local Carrs (Safeway) in the area and some were priced cheaper. I was impressed with the selection....in pretty much all of the aisles. Bulk items, vitamins, gift items, kitchenware, pre-packaged stuff etc. It was a cool experience coming here, we walked aisle by aisle just to see what items were new and hard or not found in California (just when we think we have it all). Bathrooms are clean, parking is plentiful. Employees were nice and so were the shoppers, we struck up conversations with many locals shopping there. There was a sign indicating that the cafe was no longer in service and the seating area was closed as well. It really was too bad that there is this great space that is not being used. We got some fruit to go....apples and kiwi berries. Delicious....and very fresh. Worth a stop for sure especially if you are looking for the not so common and harder to find organic/natural products. read more

Overall 3 Stars Normally I don't post reviews on Grocery Stores, but this place deserve a little bit of attention. The store has a lot of vegan, natural, and wholesome food items that are made in Alaska or nearby states I believe. It is like a Whole Foods but smaller and not as expensive. Due to the size, the aisles are narrower so be careful when you have a cart or "buggy" as we call it from the "south" when traversing through the aisles. The cashier stations are crowded with a lot of "impulsive buying" items or are filled with boxes that aren't neatly stacked at times. Probably from people bumping into them with their buggy. LOL The reason I was there was to pick up some "Mosquito Mama" salad dressing to bring back to our southern estate (sarcasm). After grabbing 6 bottles, I figure I check out the rest of the store. It had your normal consumable items but the majority of all the items were advertised as naturally made. Which can give you a sense of peace and calm when deciding to remove "corporate" preservatives from your body. I respect the concept but you have to read the labels carefully because some items were misleading. Another thing I admired was alot of the consumable items were made by small business owners. As a business owner myself, I appreciate Natural Pantry is highlighting this fact. I recommend this establishment and will come back again when I'm back in the State! read more

The noticeable decline in customer service, culminating in a recent unacceptable interaction, has made me feel unwelcome. I went here specifically to pick up some Natural Vitality Calm magnesium supplement which no one else in town seemed to have in stock. While there, I noticed the sad, empty deli cases and service area where it appears fresh cooked food used to be served...so sad. Please someone let's get that up and running again! I impulse bought a small tube of pâté but realized when I got it home, it was already 9 days past its "sell by" date. I'm going to return it, just on principle. What a nuisance! When you need something that's out of the ordinary or a specialty item, you can usually find it here. Organic Semolina flour from Italy you don't see in the Carrs or Fred Myers but yup here they have it. We bought a special pasta machine and want to make it right. FYI: Closed Sundays They have a great selection of Gluten Free items, a dedicated side of one of their long lanes. Fresh meats, vegan, gluten free and a awesome area for cookwares and gadgets. Vitamins are a bit pricy but they have a discount card but the selection is super impressive. Because of Covid-19 the manager said they are getting short shipments in lots of items so they are breaking 25 Lb bags into 5 Lb bags so to portion out for more people to get what they need and not in bulk purchase. I was in the area and had some time to kill... I decided to give them another shot and it was no better than before and everything I've experienced in the past continues. I just can't give them more than two stars and really, that's a stretch at this point but being the big fish in the pond, I'll leave them at two. I wandered the store for about an hour, strolling up and down every isle to check things out. Still had several empty areas, clutter and messiness. When I got to the registers, three were open and I definitely chose the wrong one. There was one gentleman in line and there seemed to be a language barrier or something going on, I'm not sure... but while I watched the other two lines move, I stood there trying to be patient. Then, after a several minutes (5-7 I'd estimate), the cashier put out her lane closed sign and walked off with the gentleman. She didn't say a thing to me. Wow, just wow!! SMH I moved to the next line, where the cashiers customer service was less than mediocre and then I was on my way. I've never tried their hot items, I hear they're good and that part of the store was quite busy. I'm glad others have something positive to say. This was the final time, I'm just not interested in spending my money there anymore. The customer service is atrocious, the prices are stupid high compared to everyone else in town that has the same products, and I'd just rather not at this point. I come here occasionally for lunch since it's close to my work. Today I was off and found that I'm needing some supplenents to bring my med levels in line. Dr. Med report said I'm defficient. Getting older and I need an adjustment or two. So when I need a supplement vitamin quick, I can count on Natural Pantry to have what I need in a pinch. So got what I needed with multiple brands as usual to choose from. The good thing they offer is a Punch Card for vitamins! It's a discount card - For every $100 you spend on vitamins and supplements you get $5 off on your next purchase. I want to love Natural Pantry, and at some point I might have said I did; I used to love coming to the newer location to grab lunch or a drink, but post-lockdown, the hot food bar and cafe seem to be indefinitely gone, which is a huge shame, as the food was genuinely wonderful. The store itself is fine, it is laid out in a way that is easy to find what you're looking for most of the time. The biggest issue with NP, genuinely, is the pricing. While they carry some things that you can't find anywhere else in town, they carry just as many things you could go down the street to Walmart and get for half the price. It feels like the pricing is based on being able to say you shop at Natural Pantry above anything else. The service here is fine, truly nothing to write home about. A handful of their cashiers are genuinely very kind, but I've had just as many who gave me the cold shoulder for daring to shop there. I have loved your store so much over the years. Especially since discovering in 2012 that I'm sensitive to Gluten. My favorite isles for 9 years now were the Gluten free sections. I knew them all by heart... like an old friend. Today however I found myself overwhelmed by my missing Gluten free isles now that it's all dispersed throughout the rest of the store. The staff was and is extremely helpful, yes, however I already know I'll be shopping here less now that I'll have to hunt for favorites or new favorites. The staff member I spoke with was very apologetic and I know it wasn't his fault. He said the reason this happened was because they kept expanding the section and it needed room, hence the dispersal throughout the isles now. Honestly I truly hope y'all will reconsider and move everything back (especially for Celiac folks like my boyfriend and many friends who truly shouldn't have their GF products near Gluten). My suggestion for expansion would be to turn an entire isle into a GF section for the store if there was such a need for expansion. Please fix this problem. Thank you. read more

I'm sorry Natural Pantry, I was a bit too hard on you. I recently took up an extreme diet for no good reason (because I'm white?) and I find that NP is one of the few places with items I can buy. (ultra-mega-super-dupah-low/no-carb, I'm ashamed of myself, as are my friends, just let me experiment, just let me fail on my own, I'll be back for you...pizza and beer...just pretend I'm a soldier stationed on a distant port somewhere, send me some love letters) Also: I discovered their food bar. It's incredible! I saw swarms of people flooding the food bar around noon. Curious, I went to investigate...wow! Great, fresh food with no sneaky additives! Seems almost everything these days has phantom sugar spiked in somewhere or another, NOT HERE! Meat and veggies galore. It's weighed by the pound though...so if you're not loading up on meat and asparagus...joke's on you! The grocery goods are still wildly expensive but, where else are you going to find jars of pure almond butter and energy bars of pure bacon? Hiring Manager Vikki (and Whomever Else it May Concern), I have dropped by a few times this week since noticing (from the sign on your main entrance) that your company is hiring. The first time was Monday, when I filled out an application for employment at your service desk. I spoke to Rob, who informed me that you were the hiring manager, and that you were usually in after about 3pm. Tuesday at 3:00, I was in the neighborhood again (walking home from the library), so I stopped by again.I recognized Rob by the desk, and spoke with him a second time. He was helpful, and revised his previous estimate of your schedule to a little later in the day, letting me know that I could be sure to find you in the evenings, closer to 5:00 or 6:00 PM. He also mentioned that you would call me when you got to my resume. My phone service was disconnected Tuesday morning, as I am currently unemployed and my bill payment is late. I let hime know that, and said that I would come by another day and time when you were there. Today, on my walk past your store, it occurred to me that I may not have included an alternate method of contact on my application, such as my email, so I stopped in to add it to my application paperwork. This time I spoke to a different manager, roughly 40-50 years of age, with a full head of silver hair. It is my brief interaction with this man that is my reason for this correspondence. I will refer to him as Rude Guy here forward, for simplicity. I did not ask for his name. Our time is valuable, so I will get to the point: I would like withdraw my application for employment. If you would like to know why, keep reading. The remainder of this email is probably best summarized as a customer complaint, although I will not be shopping at your store again in the future, nor will my family, or my sister's family. We have always enjoyed your wide variety of exotic hot sauces, but we have the internet for that, when local businesses don't suffice. Today, when I came by for the third time, I noticed that the Service Desk was empty. One of your cashiers was kind enough to page for assistance on my behalf. Either by coincidence, or because he is also a manager, a third character approached me at the desk a step or two ahead of Rude Guy, from my right. He was slightly older, with long, graying dark hair. I began to explain my reason for being there when, from my left Rude Guy interrupted loudly, "Rob told you yesterday, Vikki doesn't get here until later!" I was a little startled, since I hadn't seen Rude Guy approach, and I had not ever talked with him. Clearly he had been present the previous day, when I spoke with Rob. The store was humming with traffic that afternoon. If seemed that the longer-haired gentleman (your other employee) was as startled as I by Rude Guy's interruption, and his abrupt, aggressive tone. You can ask him about that yourself--I might be mistaken. I was more startled in the moments that followed when I realized that Rude Guy holds a position of authority in your store, a business that requires customer service skills, no less! "Yes, I heard that when Rob said it to me. I just wanted to be see that my application included an alternate form of contact, like my email address. If I didn't write it on there Monday, I would like to do so now." Rude Guy begrudgingly obliged my request, appearing very put-off that I was asking him for something. I was simply applying for a job that was posted at your store entrance. I added my email, thanked him, and walked out. Within about a block of your store it occurred to me that I probably should have just taken my application with me, and thrown it in the trash. I know from experience that I can't enjoy my job when I work for somebody who behaves this way. I'm 45 years old, and I have worked in the Service Industry since I was 15, most recently managing restaurants. I'm heading back to school for an engineering degree currently, and am just looking for a low-stress job to supplement my student loans in the process. I've worked for a lot of managers, in a lot of companies, and I usually know right away which ones I will enjoy working with, and for. I have proven myself a valuable asset in every position I've ever filled, an this guy clearly doen't deserve my efforts. Most of what I have learned about management, came in the form of "how-not-to" lessons I learned while being managed by unqualified or otherwise intolerable managers. Rude Guy pretty much demonstrated all of the "how-not-to's" in one fell swoop. It's pretty impressive, actually, even comedic. As I assume you are his boss (hopefully someone there is), you might be kind to share with him a few basic lessons in manners, management, customer service, and life in general. Yeah...Two stars.....I know; for the only game in town you would think they would get a better rating from me but alas I cannot give more than two stars. Let's start with the negatives and end with the positives because it's not ALL bad. The product on the shelves is ALWAYS really dusty! This is probably my biggest complaint about the NP. You pick up a product and BAM your covered in dust which makes me think they don't rotate stock? Let's also talk about the boxes of product out everywhere?! The PRICES?!!! Omg sticker SHOCK! I understand that for some things this is the only place that carries the item but man this place is overpriced more and more so the more other stores start carrying more specialized items. I do like the hot food selection (sometimes) although it produces an overwhelming smell throughout the store which is unmistakable. The staff is quite knowledgeable (when you can find one) on their supplements. You can find just about every type of vitamin, supplement, oil, etc. you could want here and it seems they keep up on the best brands. I've been eyeing this place since moving here. It's a wonderful place to shop as they have lots of organic foods and products but the prices are woah. Buying a baggy of dehydrated fruit was nearly $7 each. Everything here was so pricey and some of these items I can find at Target or the Commissary for half the price. A couple of snacks totaled to almost $200 but we wanted to see what this place was about. The one thing I liked about this place were all the little soup kits they had where all you have to do is add a few ingredients like water or heavy cream. This place blows, but if you need something that you can't get on Amazon or find in another health food section of a supermarket in town, you are pretty much forced to attend. The customer service by the cashiers is poor and they are generally rude. The aisles are disorganized and messy, and it's hard to find anyone who can help you. Recently I was looking for jackfruit and there was no one to help me find the price. It was on the shelf but not priced. Most of the items are found cheaper on Amazon if they are supplements too. I have always been a big defender of the Pantry- Anchorage only has one health food store, and we might as well support it, right? I'm a vegan and I eat whole food plant based, so many of the foods I eat can only be found at the Pantry. I am angry at this point, and even tossed and turned last night. During this pandemic, I have been trying to be a good citizen and keep myself, my family, and my community safe. I have only entered another building besides my home twice in the past month, for an every other week shopping trip (enormous shopping trip, over $500 each time) at the Pantry. AND THEY DON'T CARE! When I was there Friday, there was only one cashier with a mask (actually, just a bandana). I was thanking her for wearing it while loading my groceries on the belt, and the manager overheard. He came over (actually, a bit too close, considering how he was projecting) and started forcefully telling me how he personally can't wear a mask because he touches his face too much and it's uncomfortable and he can't breathe well (hey, welcome to the club) and an actual health care professional told him he is better off without a mask. A few minutes later, when I mentioned the lack of masks to the owner, he remarked, "They all received a mask." This is a dangerous situation not only for customers but for the cashiers as well, of course. Natural Pantry- you are letting all of us down. Please please look around you at how other open businesses are doing this- masks, plexiglass shields, curbside pick up, etc. I am buying what I can at Fred Meyer, where the corporate policies show they care. This place is clean and very organize which makes everything easy to find. They have a wide selection of organic foods. I was surprise with the entire isle of dispensers for oats, flour, spices, rice, etc and next isle were bag of grains sold in bulk. I was also looking for Raspberry ketones and this is the only place in Anchorage that have a wide selection of brands. As a matter of fact, their stock of vitamins is larger than any GNC in Anchorage. I also think their prices are more reasonable compare to GNC. I love that Natural Pantry has great products, and carries items that are natural (hence the name). This is especially great with my many chemical allergies. However, the lack on consistency is frustrating. The shelves always look empty, and half the time I walk out of the store empty handed because they are out of stock on the items I need. The staff is definitely more interested in stocking shelves than helping customers. Perhaps they should remember that they only have a job because of the customer. There are rarely more than 2 checkout lines open, regardless of how busy they are. It seems that they look for the slowest possible cashiers to hire. I have never seen anything quite like it. Word of advice: Don't buy anything here you may need to return. Even though the receipt says "return or exchange" you will only get store credit if you return something. Also you'll probably have to ask someone to go to the "Solutions" desk because no one is ever there. I had a to return a skin care product due to a bad reaction and the guy at the register didn't seem thrilled about it. Just search on Amazon where you'll most likely find the same thing for a fraction of the price, as was the case with the product I returned. I used the store credit to buy lunch at the hot food bar. Usually it's pretty good, but this time was a miss. I was excited to see they had chicken channa masala since I love Indian(-inspired) food. Unfortunately the chicken was dry and there was no spice or flavor to it whatsoever. They do have a fantastic chocolate section at the front of the store so I was able to get some fancy peanut butter cups at least. Also, I've never seen more than 3 registers open here at a time, even during the lunch time rush. I feel bad for the employee at the registers since I'm sure it's overwhelming for them.
