After calling in panic about an itchy rash on my neck/shoulders, I was seen for an emergency visit. After 2 minutes, I was immediately told I had shingles. My symptoms? Severe itchiness. I spent 1 week on unnecessary anti-viral medication (Valtrex) that made me tired and unwell, the rash cleared slightly but itching was still severe, keeping me up at night. I had a follow up the next week with noticeably more bumps/blisters down my arm, was told I didn't need more Valtrex and was prescribed a topical steroid. For shingles? I should have known at that point this wasn't shingles, but instead placed my trust in a medical professional who specializes in skin conditions. Two days later, I rushed to the ER as I now had a severe rash on additional parts of my body. After a thorough examination, two ER doctors confirmed this was NEVER shingles - it was poison ivy. They prescribed me an oral steroid (prednisone) and said it would get better in 1-2 days. I saw an additional dermatologist for another opinion and he confirmed it was never shingles, just a severe (and dangerous) allergic reaction to poison ivy. I called Greenwich Point Dermatology to let them know, they apologized for the misdiagnosis and said they would speak to their practice manager. I got a call from the PA who misdiagnosed me and she was unapologetic - she's STILL claiming I may have had shingles, but noted it was difficult to diagnose initially. Really? Because you seemed pretty certain after seeing me for 2 minutes that it was shingles 2 weeks prior, and doubled down on the diagnosis even when I came in for a follow up with a rash that had now spread. I'm looking forward to putting this behind me, but I spent nearly 2 weeks misdiagnosed with shingles, out from work, bedridden and sleeping 15 hours a day with no relief, even contemplating suicide several times, when in reality all I had was untreated poison ivy. I thought I was crazy, was told my issue was a nervous system one, to just calm down and relax. I'm extremely frustrated at the medical irresponsibility of this practice, and the larger issue with our healthcare system refusing to take the time to holistically examine patients and their symptoms. It's all about the money. So sure, if you want fillers and botox, this place may be for you. It's boujee. But if you have a real MEDICAL concern, I'd go somewhere else.

Generally, I think Urgent Cares are great (such as the one by the CVS on 644 W Putnam in…read moreGreenwich). This one is the first place I felt scammed. So much so, in fact, that I called my insurance company to flag them. First, when I got there there was an "hour wait," which turned out to be much more. After the wait, I entered the office where most of the visit involved insurance information (despite CVS having it all). She did take my blood pressure and used her stethoscope, before telling me that there was a 90% it was X. I asked her a follow up question, at which point it became a 95% chance -- as if inflating percentages would make me more confident. She then gave me two prescriptions. She had me sign the receipt that just showed the $25 co-pay (nothing else on the page), then after signing, handed the first page which showed an "extended visit." She absolutely ripped the insurance company off with the charges, and it occurred to me that this might be why things are so far behind -- delaying to get a higher visit charge (many people were waiting much longer). I went to the counter to ask if she was a legitimate health care provider, and the pharmacist shrugged and said she has nothing to do with CVS. The prescriptions were expensive and unusual, to the point where I was suspicious that she was getting some sort of kick back from the drug provider. Ultimately, I had so little confidence in the doctor that I left them both at the counter and called my insurance company to alert them of potential fraud and to understand whether they would cover two urgent care visits on the same day.

The nurse I saw for myself and my son was kind and helpful. But the entire administrative…read moreexperience has been an absolute nightmare. I think the idea behind the minute clinic is that it's supposed to be EASIER than going to a doctor and this experience has been FAR MORE COMPLICATED. There is ALWAYS a long wait (at least 30 minutes), even when you have an appointment and even when there is seemingly no one else there. But the absolute worst part about Minute Clinic is the payment process. When I checked in, they had me enter my credit card information on a screen and confirm that I was OK with using that credit card to pay for my visit. (They also, by the way, had me my enter my primary care doctor's information on the check-in screen so they could share the results of the visit with her). Apparently they do this just for fun, because they neither used the credit card I entered to pay my bill, nor did they send any of the information to my doctor. Instead, a few weeks later, I started receiving text messages telling me I had a bill. When I clicked the link in the text message it took me to a website that LOOKED easy to use, but which didn't recognize my date of birth or my son's date of birth. As a result, I had to call to pay my bill. During that process, I was disconnected twice, the phone system stopped recognizing the number 1 during the call (a pretty important number during the phone billing process) so I had to hang up and call back. I finally paid the bill but it was an INFURIATING process. I thought my doctor's office was bad, but this is AWFUL. It's fine if CVS doesn't have the online check-in process worked out to accept credit cards or share results with primary care physicians, but they shouldn't be leading people to believe that they will do these things when they actually don't. That is POSITIVELY AWFUL customer service.
