I have only been attending the studio for a few months, but the owner has been very unfriendly and rude towards me, and my friend who I brought as a guest even commented about the owners attitude. She has never been welcoming, no matter how friendly and kind I am toward her. The pilates classes are consistently the same, lacking creativity from the instructors. There are blocks and various types of equipment available, but they are never utilized! Despite the classes being waitlisted, there are instructors in the studio taking up space while paying members are unable to attend. I will not be returning to this studio.

She makes it a point to introduce herself to any new students. She always asks the class if there's anything we would like to focus on for that day, to which she immediately responds to using improv to cater to your needs. Her hands on adjustments are subtle yet engaging and allows you to deepen your practice significantly. She is a tremendous asset to Citizen Yoga. The other instructors and receptionists are also very kind and personable, they never meet a stranger.

I took a bikram or hot yoga. The room was toasty as expected, 102 degrees or so. We all had our…read moretowels and mats. I was positioned in the middle of class. I came with another couple. This wasn't my first yoga class but it was my first hot yoga. The classroom was so crowded, there was little floor space for a mat and me, but made it work. I remember the horror and disgust after midway through class that some guy in front of me was sweating so profusely, every time he would lift or drop down an arm he would splash his nasty sweat on me. This was when I decided hot yoga wasn't for me. I stayed through the end of class but I ended up getting a lot of his germs on me. This was also the same class a guy in the back row had passed out from the heat and you could hear the thud of his poor head hit the back wall. He was in the back and last row too. The class stopped briefly, he came to and some folks helped him out of class and then we kept on going as if that's normal for people to pass out and crack their heads on the back wall. Really? I still have bad memories when I think of my one hot yoga experience. I like regular yoga, will stick normal yoga, that's my jam.

Second, I took a Hatha class and mentioned to the teacher that I just started Ashtanga yoga last year and the studio closed. She said very sarcastically "This is not Ashtanga yoga!" The instructors are friendly and the space is peaceful and calm, even being right on Woodward. So far I have tried gentle hatha (was my first time practicing hatha but Maura made it so approachable) and their restorative class, both of which made me feel rejuvenated. You know a really good shavasana where you forget you're at a yoga class? I've been able to achieve that here, and it's the best.

I dropped in to Release for a yoga class with playful puppies lead by Emma!…read more The studio was modern, chic, and trendy. The space was decorated with cute quotes, plants, and motivational notes. Everyone had cubbies for their shoes and other belongings. Restrooms were available. We were all provided black yoga mats for the class. Puppy yoga was so much fun! The class was set up as half of the time dedicated to yoga and the other half dedicated to the pups. Emma, our instructor, was very friendly and lead us through various beginner friendly poses. The puppies for my class were chihuahua mixes. All of the puppies were adoptable. It felt nice knowing a part of the proceeds from my ticket went to the puppies!

I can see muscle definition like never before in my legs, it's crazy. The yoga classes are great. I really enjoy the Yin class, it's my hour of mental health each week. My friend got me started on Yoga Basics. It's not necessarily an easy class but rather focuses on the right posture. As someone whose journey to Yoga started at bigger gyms this is really important to me. They take the time to explain the proper positions and if you are off they will tell you how to correct it. (After an IT injury, I've learned the importance of posture!). There are a several classes I haven't tried like Booty Bunz and gym sticks that people love. There is also tighten and tone that I like but totally kicks my butt. Zumba is fun and I recommend trying out different instructors because they all have their own take on things.
