After 20 minutes of offering me swing suggestions and trying different clubs he said, "I'd hate to seek you the wrong club right now just to sell you a club. I'd feel much better if you come back when the pro is in. He'll be able to better figure out what you're doing wrong and find the right club for you." I am beyond grateful for his honesty and integrity, and it goes without saying that I will not buy a club anywhere else! I'm positive that he's more than capable of getting most people into the correct clubs for them, but in my case, I require the pro. Anybody who's ever needed surfboard repair knows how impossible it is to find a guy who will…read moredo a decent job, on time, for a reasonable price, etc. it's usually less fuss just to buy a new board than to deal with your old favorite board being taken hostage for the next four seasons by some mysterious dude who has three other day jobs in addition to ding repair and who won't return your calls (or your cash). Having experienced this, I hadn't bothered for about ten years and therefore have a backyard full of damaged boards. Island Surf evidently has some magical elf chained in their basement who is the last known craftsman in this trade. I took in a board with dings on the rails, one torn-out fin box (helpful reminder: don't drive over your board with your car), and two crushed "wings" on the swallowtail. Bottom line, this thing would sink in a puddle of spilled milk. The board was returned one day late (one day!! making it the most prompt repair in the history of this industry); the entire tail was rebuilt, looking literally better than new (I didn't ask for this btw); all finboxes replaced (also a bonus). It's no stretch to say it's better than new. The capper was when they handed the board back to me with complimentary wax, fin key, etc. Being a bad surfer, I'm kind of a connoisseur of repair for damaged boards. I can honestly say these guys do the best job I've seen in the US, Asia, etc.

Unfortunately, the entire experience is ruined by the store manager, Ryan Maloney. He is, without a doubt, the worst part of this store--clueless, unprofessional, and completely unfit for his role. as a manager, you'd expect him to have at least a basic understanding of the products, yet he seems to know absolutely nothing. Ask him a question about any type of gear, and you'll either get a completely incorrect answer or some bizarre, unhelpful remark that makes you wonder if he even knows what's in his own store. While other employees go out of their way to assist customers, Ryan seems more interested in making everything more difficult. to make matters worse, his demeanor is just plain uncomfortable. Instead of being professional and customer-friendly, he makes weird, off-putting comments that leave you wondering if he's deliberately trying to confuse or irritate people. What really crossed the line was when he made unsettling remarks toward both me and my son. Rather than focusing on helping us find what we needed, he seemed more interested in making awkward, unnecessary comments that had nothing to do with our shopping experience. It was uncomfortable, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable. on top of all that, he doesn't even seem capable of managing basic store operations. At one point, he actually pulled one of his employees away from helping another customer just so they could assist him with something--completely disregarding the fact that the customer had been waiting for help. Instead of leading by example, he comes off as lazy, unorganized, and completely out of his depth. and his appearance--because if you're expecting a manager who looks even remotely presentable, you're out of luck. Ryan strolls around the store in cheap Walmart sweatpants like he just rolled out of bed. It's honestly a shame because the rest of the staff here are great--they know their stuff, they're friendly, and they actually care about customer service. But with Ryan Maloney in charge, the entire store suffers. If Monkey Sports wants to maintain its reputation, they should seriously reconsider who they have running the place. Until then, I'd highly recommend taking your business elsewhere.

She felt she wanted a larger size. We went back today to exchange the pair for a larger size. As she was trying on, the owner of the store steps out from the back and in a nasty tone was like I thought we decided on the other pair. I also noticed her whispering to the sales girl in reference to my daughter. I could tell she was annoyed with us. I didn't understand the attitude. We we're keeping the shoes. It was just an exchange for another pair. As a customer, we have the right to be satisfied and ultimately we have the final decision in our purchase. My daughter was anxious prior to going to the store because she was afraid this was reaction she was going to get and this woman's didn't help in the least. I was highly disappointed in the treatment we received today. It was completely unnecessary. I will not be shopping there in the future. You have lost a customer.
