Recently when I have gone to Naval Bagels in Annapolis (3 times in the past month), the Bagels were hard as a rock (sad). Today, I ordered & paid for 4 Bagels all with cream cheese & three toasted. Well, I received 3 Bagels with cream cheese & all 4 toasted. One bagel didn't have anything on it. I usually go to the Naval Bagels in Arnold (I live near the Annapolis store so Arnold is further away). Next time, I will go to Arnold instead. Worth the wait on a Sunday afternoon. Ok, I'll be honest. I'm a bagel snob. There. I said it. And now I feel better! Every great bagel shop has some quirky things about it. Biff's Bagels in Flagstaff AZ has great videos filmed in it. Naval Bagel has playing cards to identify your order. Brilliant! Though all that would mean nothing if it doesn't have great bagels, not a real water bagel, but the best non-water around. The bagels are great!! The only thing I have to complain about is the service is somewhat unfriendly. I ordered a large order that was about 7 bags of stuff, $155 worth and I had to make 4 trips to the car without any offer to help from any of the staff. Now I would understand if it was busy but it was not. The staff is always somewhat surly It would be nice if they were a little more customer focused which comes primarily from good training. I came here to have brunch with my friends based on a recommendation from one of said friends. Easy parking, popular on a Saturday afternoon, great smells. I ordered an everything bagel with bacon, egg, and cheese and a bottled V8. So good! The cute thing about ordering is that you get a playing card that they can call when your order is ready and you don't pay until then either. They have outside seating and plenty of inside seating. Pulled into the parking lot at 1:00pm to see a family of 4 eating their bagels on the tailgate of their vehicle. We figured inside would be packed but it was super quiet. All of the chairs had been removed from the tables so there was no where to sit except for the counter. I ordered an everything bagel (toasted) with lox spread & bacon. I'm assuming they microwaved the bacon which wasn't cooked throughly. The bagel itself tastes tart. I'm not sure if they make their bagels on site or not but it wasn't good at all. And to top it all off, they put the hugest amount of lox spread on my bagel. Not to mention the young lady handling the lox spread was coughing over it. I'm from Jersey and that's basically the bagel capital. I eat here everytime I am in Annapolis. The drink choices are great. They have Dr. Brown's sodas, juices in the fridge, chocolate milk, and a self-service coffee/tea bar. It is nice to make your coffee how you like it and then just sip it while you read and wait for your food. They give customers a playing card that gets called when the food is ready to be paid for and eaten. Ambiance isn't the most important thing to me when it comes to eateries but I get warm and fuzzy hanging out at Naval Bagels. There is a laid back, lunch counter vibe. The staff are welcoming. Please share your secret Naval Bagels because I don't know how you could manage to deliver two bagel breakfast sandwiches that had absolutely NO FLAVOR. My husband and I felt like we were munching on a pillow, all fluff no taste. My egg, onion, green pepper, bacon and Swiss cheese on a six grain bagel tasted like nothing. Imagine having the worst cold that you could have where your taste buds stop tasting. And the only thing you experience is a dry mouth of spongy bread. My partner's sesame bagel with egg, bacon, and Swiss delivered the same results. How can sandwiches with bacon have no bacon flavor? We love to support local businesses but they have to deliver a quality product. This place does't do the job. read more

Naval Bagels - to be honest I think its the only non-chain bagel shop in Annapolis, so just for that they get some props. Are these the best bagels? Eh, I think its safe to say no, but they ARE good. People have to realize that there are three classes of bagels out there: New York Bagels, Store bought Bagels (ie those gummy creations by lenders, thomas, etc) and then there's everyone else. Naval Bagels falls into the 'everyone else' category - and I think they're closer to the top of the pack than the bottom. They have a good selection of both sweet and savory bagels, the toppings are stuck on there really well, and when you get them fresh in the morning, they certainly are tasty. I really love naval bagels for their sandwiches - the turkey and avocado sandwich with honey dijon dressing is delish. The veggies and meat are all fresh and high quality. I also like their selection of cream cheeses, and lastly - they have some pretty tasty coffee. The employees are very friendly and they get the goods to you fast. The store itself is tiny - with just a few indoor seats available. If the weather is nice, they have some seats outside as well that you can relax in while you eat your bagel. I also think it's nice that if you're buying a dozen, they give you a plastic freezer bag so that you can keep them fresh at home. read more

Crispy (overbaked) "crust" and fluffy (pretty sure they're not boiled) interior lacked any chew, with the exception of the chewing-out I got from my Jewish co-worker after he took one bite. Oy vey. I am not a New Yorker or a Jew, but these are pretty good bagels and bagel sandwiches. I get the Northerner (because I am a northerner) on an everything bagel (because I am your first, your last, your everything). The place has a nice atmosphere and is usually staffed by a bunch of young college aged whipper snappers. There is a white board on one wall that will have some facts, trivia questions and other fun things written on it daily. The service is always good despite the young staff. They seem to like working there and although they are laid back they are professional. The one negative is a lack of side options and drink options. Also, the seating there isn't very comfortable. It consists of metal stools and metal tables, but the stools are too tall for the tables. Other than that it is a great place to go for lunch or for a breakfast sandwich to take back to the office. read more

There aren't many places you can find in the mid-Atlantic that makes their own bagels. Naval Bagels is one of these places, and their bagels are fantastic. Everytime I'm in the city I stop in to have some and freeze them. They are chewy, flavored perfectly, and basically just what you need in a bagel. The last time I was in here it was 8 AM on a Sunday. Good place to get bagels that's really close to home. I come here about once a week to pick up a few bagels and some cream cheese. Used to just get one bagel with a schmear but at nearly $5 I about fainted. So now I pick up a few bagels and some of their delicious low fat veggie cream cheese (expensive but seriously the best veggie cream cheese I've ever eaten) and save a few bucks. If I'm lucky I can pick up a bag of day olds and save even more. Good service, good bagels, good selection, but pricey. Huge selection of *house made* bagels, complete with breakfast and lunch bagel sandwich options up the wazoo. They've also got coffee and your usual fridge selection of beverages. I like my everything bagels to be loaded with as much of the 'everything' as possible. This place does that. They toast your bagels quick and have you out of the door in a timely manner. The coffee keeps flowing. They make sure the pots stay full. The lids for the coffee cups kind of suck, but whatever, it's a bagel joint not a coffee house. The staff is very sweet. I have been a loyal Naval Bagels customer for over 10 years and overall have enjoyed the food. Unfortunately, I had a horrible customer service experience today in the Annapolis location that I just can't stop thinking about. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich with lettuce and tomato then paused to ask if these particular toppings were extra (I recalled that some were indeed extra $). The woman helping me(who later identified herself as the manager) said tomatoes are 30 cents extra. I said in a off-handed way that that seems crazy considering these are basic toppings that normally come with sandwiches. She responded with a snarl that "we have to pay for the toppings, why shouldn't you". I said that most places just add the cost of basic toppings to their sandwiches as opposed to "nickel and dimeing" customers. Let me pause right here and say that I wasn't planning on going down this road. It isn't at all about the 30 cents but much more about how she reacted to my off-hand comment in such a combative, aggressive tone. She doubled down and then snapped "well you don't have to get a sandwich from here". ?!?!?!?!? I said "I have been a customer for years, why are you arguing with me...can't I just order my food." She kept going with her angry rant and I had to say again "can't I just order my food". She begrudging said "if you want." It was an unbelievably upsetting experience. I really didn't think I was going to get attacked when I walked in there today. The funny thing is the woman actually said she knows I am a long-time customer and even that didn't stop her from treating me in that extremely rude manner...not that any customer should get that treatment. I am from Annapolis and I go here often... Bagels are pretty good ... maybe I should just buy loose bagels and cream cheese because I can watch them and know if the order is correct.. I have saved writing this review but the process and quality control of a simple sandwich on a simple order is way off par with great regularity,, Confusing which bagel is to be toasted on which sandwich (happens often trust me) is a process issue. Sometimes I have to take off cream cheese as there is SO much on there, other times... I am looking for more.. same with lox on a bagel, sometimes overloaded sometimes thin... (Hello food cost?!?) Point being rarely is a order replicated here and if it comes as I ordered...BONUS!! Very busy and a little chaotic but just across the street from the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial football stadium. Lots of folks waiting for their orders so don't mistake that for the line. Order your bagels at the counter and they will give you a playing card to identify your order. Coffee and hot chocolate are self serve and you just tell the cashier when you pick up your order. Overall bagels were good. The locks came with very heavy cream cheese. Seating is fairly limited but there are also tables outside. For a quick basic coffee and bagel this is a good choice. read more
