My wife and I took some time off together this morning to go to the Alpine Wells Fargo branch and…read moreopen a checking account for her. Her first. I had even scheduled an appointment on-line two days prior. We arrived about 10-minutes late (absolutely not my fault). All of the Tellers were friendly about it and non-judgemental so our lateness was not an issue. Associate Personal Banker Sandra K. took us to a desk, and for the next couple hours we had an enjoyable time together while Sandra covered every imaginable aspect of a Wells Fargo checking account (and a savings account, which it turns out we needed), and overdraft protection, and debit card art, and personal checks, and automatic transfers, and PINs, and paper-free accounts. It was, without doubt, the most thorough opening a checking account experience I have ever had. And it was also calming in a zen way with pleasant banker company. I'm happy to recommend this bank branch.

No lines... So when…read morewas the last time you were at a bank and you had to stand in line to cash your $5 pay check? Really? So after I was all Java'd up I decided I needed some cash to reload my Starbucks card so that I will be all jazzed up writing my next review. I walked in and this bank had almost all of their teller lanes open, simply put no hassle and no lines. I remember the days when you had to fill out your deposit slip (for me it was more of the withdrawal slip) even before you get to the teller. Now all I had to do was slide my card and the teller filled out the rest. How cool was that? The teller was very helpful and friendly and I have a feeling that everyone is the same way. There you have it my first bank review, on to the next location when I run out of greens.

My mom, who isn't the steadiest person at 85 years old, needed to provide two pieces of ID. Sam kindly offered to go outside to the car to get them so my mom didn't have to get out of the car. I couldn't believe it! She said she would do anything for clients, and I saw it first hand. Sam also mentioned the roses were from a client, who brings them every week. If that isn't proof enough of their relationship with their customers, I don't know what else could be.

That's not a small mistake -- that's a pattern of carelessness. Instead of focusing on doing their job properly and making sure my card was ordered accurately, the representative spent time making small talk and asking unrelated questions. I'm all for friendly service, but accuracy and competence should come first -- especially when it's something as basic as ordering a card correctly. Each mistake has caused unnecessary delays and inconvenience on my end. I've had to keep coming back and following up because the bank couldn't get it right the first time -- or the second, third, or fourth. At this point, it feels like attention to detail and accountability are seriously lacking. I expect better from a major bank. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and focuses on training staff to prioritize doing their job correctly over casual conversation. Very frustrating experience.

I had a horrendous experience trying to open a business account with Tamra…read more What should have been simple turned into over a week of delays, poor communication, and constant back-and-forth due to "approvals" and unavailable managers. Responses were slow and inconsistent. When I was finally told to come in, my request to schedule a specific time was ignored until 10 minutes before. Then I was told--only after arriving--that I needed $105 to fund the account, which was never disclosed beforehand. The only option suggested could trigger a cash advance fee. After being left sitting for 15 minutes while she "checked with a manager," I walked out. Disorganized, inefficient, and a complete waste of time. I'll be taking my business elsewhere.

This is one of the credit unions I currently bank with, and I'll be honest -- my experiences at…read morethis particular location have been a little hit or miss. Nothing terrible, just depending on the day and timing. Let's talk parking first. Whew. It can definitely be a challenge. The branch is located in the La Mesa Spring Valley Plaza, which is shared with several busy businesses like Round Table Pizza, Albert's Mexican Food, Vons, Sports Clips, and even an Asian buffet among others. Because of that, you may find yourself circling the lot a few times waiting for someone to pull out. If you're coming during peak hours, just prepare for that. I usually stop by when I'm already in the area running errands and just need to get in and out. For quick transactions, deposits, or basic banking needs, it works perfectly. Now let me say this -- the staff here are super sweet and very friendly. They really do try to take care of customers in a prompt and professional manner. I've never had to handle any major financial matters here, but for everyday banking needs, they've been solid. They also have an ATM outside and a drive-through option, which is convenient if you don't feel like going inside or you're short on time. Overall, California Coast Credit Union is a great credit union with multiple locations throughout San Diego County, plus access to shared branch locations in certain areas. That flexibility is a big win for me because I can bank pretty much anywhere I am in the city. If you're on the fence about joining California Coast, don't be. If you're looking to establish checking, savings, or just want a reliable credit union with accessibility around town, they're definitely worth giving a try. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
