    Fridge in kitchenette

Navigating through NSAB from Gate 2 and with all the detours the past couple of weeks was a pain, but once I found the Lodge, everything went well. The room cleanliness is on par with other similarly-sized Navy Lodges, and the standard amenities were all there. I don't remember all of them, but rooms come with the following: Kitchenette (tall fridge, microwave, a small electric stove with, a coffeemaker, toaster, dishware, sink with dish washing liquid, ice bucket, and trash bin), a two-seater table with chairs, an ergonomic chair and desk, complementary soap and shampoo, iron and ironing board, movable reading lights attached the wall lamp near the beds, an alarm clock with USB slots and 110v outlets, a number of unused wall outlets, a sofa chair, a flat screen TV and DVD player, and a shower mat. The water pressure is strong and the beds are soft and comfy. Housekeeping does a pretty good job, and the staff at the front desk are friendly and very helpful. Complementary breakfast is offered betweem 6AM to 9AM, while hot food items like soup are available (for a nominal fee, I believe) after 5PM. Free, hot coffee is available 24/7. As is the case at most Navy Lodges, free wi-fi is available/accessible from all rooms; connect to the "gowifi" network, not the one with "Sprint" in the name. There are ice machines on all floors except on the Garden Level, a breakfast area near the front desk, a mini-store selling a variety of items, and a large waiting area with tables, a sofa, and a mounted TV. Vending machines are inside the laundry room on the first floor. The only problem I had, which is typical of any hotel/lodging facility, is the slow drainage in the bathtub. Aside from that, I cannot think of any other complaints. It's about 45 minutes from DC if you take local routes (non-freeway), which is certainly convenient.

After the first beer I was told they didn't have any more of this basic domestic beer. So I ordered a different one and was informed that those were warm. Ordered a flatbread and was told they didn't have those ingredients so I had to order a different one. While I was there, another person came to the bar and asked for a menu and the bartender said "let me show you the items we don't have", 5 or 6 items. It's a small menu. I like this hotel because the property itself is solid, but unfortunately the lack of climate control made it one of the least comfortable hotel stays I've had. We understand that the DMV area is experiencing an extreme heat wave, but a hotel should still be able to provide a reasonably comfortable environment. Throughout the building, temperatures were inconsistent, and there were fans running at the front desk which signaled the hvac system is underpowered to handle high temperatures. Our room was even worse. Only part of the room was reasonably cool. The bathroom was unbearably hot, honestly, it felt hotter than it was outside, which was around 105. We contacted maintenance, hoping there was an issue with our room that could be fixed. After checking it, the technician essentially shrugged and said it was hot. While he may have been limited by the building's HVAC system, there was no real solution offered and no attempt to make the situation right. A comfortable room is one of the most basic expectations when booking a hotel, and unfortunately this property didn't deliver. If the HVAC system is upgraded, I'd consider giving the hotel another chance. Until then, I'd have a hard time recommending it during the warmer months.

Reception can be swamped at times depending on if 1-2 staff are stationed at the counters. (I've never seen more than 2; usually see 1.) They have a small grab and go area at the front for purchases. Past the reception desk, they have a reusable water bottle fill-up station where you can select still or sparkling. Accommodations are very nice. I've always had a clean room and pleasant sleeping experience. Comfy bed and easy to use amenities. Rooms vary depending on room style but most come with basic furniture, desk, luggage stowaway, and shelving/hanging clothing storage. They have a bar and restaurant onsite. Bar is well stocked and the bar service has been great each time. Restaurant staff is friendly and helpful. They have a breakfast buffet which offers an array of items including hot dishes, cereal, pastries, fruit, yogurt, coffee, juices, that sort of thing. It's alright when I'm there for work but I would not pay extra for it personally. All in all, good reliable accommodations in Bethesda.

But they also have coffee, tea, sodas and yogurts available at the lounge until 12am. Employees at the M Lounge were amazing, especially the lady (I don't recall her name) was always so friendly, welcoming and lovely. I wish more people were like her. The staff is uniformly pleasant and professional. I have nothing but positive feelings about all of them. The room cleaning was done every day and it felt like they did a good job. Both the hotel and the rooms are a bit on the older side, which is fine. The rooms are fine. The beds are comfortable. The bathrooms have a walk-in shower that worked for me, with shampoo/conditioner/body soap dispensers on the wall. My only real issue has to do with something they need to modernize. Some of the electric outlets on the dresser area were not hooked up. The room is bereft of USB ports for charging. I have several devices that need a USB port for recharging. The room has one. So I could charge my iPhone, my Apple watch, my Apple earbuds, or my iPad. I could not charge more than one of them. That is a little annoying, but it is a small problem for just me. That is a rather simple upgrade that they should make. If I had been with my wife on this trip, the lack of USB ports would have been a huge problem. This place has a "bar" that is open limited hours adjacent to the lobby. There is a breakfast thing in the morning. The bar should be open earlier and stay open later. One of the evenings my groups was there, the World Series was on. We had to go to a place a couple of blocks away because it was not on in the hotel bar, and the hotel bar would have closed before the game ended. We would have rather stayed at the hotel. But we could not. The fact that there is no room service is a bit annoying. I know that is part of this kind of place. But it is an inconvenience. I'd say this place is more of a 3.5. But I'm rounding up because the complaints are small and the place was very good in general.

The lobby is busy, but very clean and staff are always at the desk and available. Overall , the staff were amazing and very accommodating. Once we arrived and checked in I realized that the bathroom had a tub and not a step in shower. I booked based on pictures online, so I was pretty sure that the bathroom had a step in shower that my mom would be able to use. However, upon entering the room, I noticed a tub. I went back down to the desk and asked if there was any way possible to switch to a room with a step in shower to accommodate my mom. The young lady at the desk said "yes, of course! I want to make sure that we can accommodate you." Although they were at high occupancy and it was a busy weekend, our room was changed in less than two minutes. No additional questions, no attitude, just excellent customer service. They had me there. Next up, the room. Extremely clean, smelled fresh, no moldy smell or loud air conditioning unit. We had a suite with a king bed and sofa pull out couch which was perfect for our needs. Rooms could use an update but are in great condition. Smart tvs in bedroom and living room, desk area, bathroom with pocket door between toilet/shower area and sink, mini fridge, microwave. The breakfast is also included and had a huge variety...omelette station, bacon, sausage, roasted potatoes, bagels, toast, waffles, yogurt, assorted fruits (green apples, pears, oranges), oatmeal and toppings. Dining staff were on it and replaced food quickly. They cleared tables quickly and wiped them down for the next guests. Everything was hot and fresh. We also had tickets for an afternoon reception with drinks and a snack but didn't get a chance to use them since we were at the hospital during the day. Another staff who worked in the dining area, Ms. Miriyam, was so kind and compassionate to my mom. So kind, in fact, that I will be writing a separate acknowledgment of her outstanding customer service. I only have one complaint. The parking situation is not ideal. There is a parking lot located behind the hotel and parking is limited and pretty tight. Also, a limited number of handicap parking is available near the elevators. Parking is $24/day. If you're bringing someone who uses a wheelchair, it may be helpful to let them out directly in front of the hotel/lobby area and then park unless your lucky enough to get handicap parking near the elevator. I wish I had taken pictures of the room, but it was just such a busy weekend and I forgot ! We're looking forward to bringing our family member here for a staycation once he is well enough.
