Favorite Tiki Bar in Seattle!! Navy Strength makes super potent and delicious drinks! I've come in multiple times with big groups and have had little trouble in finding a spot to stand or sit. There are a good amount of tables, and comfy chairs. I've had the: Saturn Slushie - the slushies here are my all time favorite drink. even better with a extra shot of liquor. a delicious drink all around!! Fortress of Solid Dudes - this one is served in a tin can, and it yummy, and has a little kick to it. Escape Hatch - who doesn't want their drinks served it a coconut! delicious drink and beautifully presented I realize that they change their drink concoctions based on where the travel theme for the month is, so there may be variability in the actual drink contents. I think a really solid spot to grab drinks though! The drinks do take a little longer to come out due to the amount of ingredients in each drink, but service always says that up front. Friend was in town so we caught up over drinks on a Saturday. It seemed like a good place to take a group. We learned, however, that some of the chairs and tables are bolted to the ground. We were also placed next to another group so, as our group got bigger, the seating got tighter. It never seemed to get too crowded in the rest of the bar throughout the night, so keep your groups at 2-6 people. Really cute concept. The drinks are strong (yep, that Navy Strength) and they have a rotating monthly menu that coincides with a new country. We got India. Garam Masala Whisky Collins. Cutest drink, garnished with a flower and served in a tall, slim glass. Sweeter, and spices were very apparent. This was a good drink. Masala Coffee Grog. There was definitely an essence of coffee (the rum is infused with coffee), which resulted in an almost chocolate taste in the middle of each sip. In general, however, the rum flavor overpowered everything else. Again, drinks here are strong. Bella Faccia. This one is on their regular menu. Each sip starts off great, but ends in a very bitter note. Not sure why this drink had a bitterness, since the menu claimed "refreshing". Also, it could be due to the fact that we had a group, but they did an auto 20% service charge, so we added 30% to the price listed to get our totals (~$16-$21 per drink). Not sure if I'd be back again, since the seating was weird and there's a 2 in 3 chance I'll end up with a mediocre drink. read more

I was really surprised to see such a low average rating for this bar (3.5 seems unfair). Navy strength is an excellent tiki bar with great cocktails. The menu is fun, creative, and refined. The bartenders seem to be very knowledgeable and can walk you through the details of any cocktail on the menu. I had two cocktails and tasted a few of the cocktails ordered my by friends. They were all solid and I was too busy enjoying them to snap any pictures! I will definitely be returning. read more

I was really dang disappointed in the drinks I tried from Navy Strength, especially after all the hype I had heard. I've had some amazing tiki drinks at bars all over the U.S., so I was excited to check this out. I came in with a rather larger group a little late in the evening after my fiance's holiday work party. We all ordered drinks and I was pleased with the service, especially since we had a bigger group and I'm sure these drinks aren't easy to craft. I ordered the Fog Cutter. As we got the drinks, I saw everyone's excitement fade to just 'meh'. Nobody really liked the taste of their cocktails, except for one who got the slushie-type drink. I also tried at least three different drinks and didn't like one of them. What a bummer. It's cool for drinks to be strong, but the flavors need to be there. And what I experienced was not tasty at all. And this is coming from someone who 1) used to be a bartender, 2) loves strong AF drinks, and 3) often just sips straight tequila. After doing some research and finding out that this establishment was associated with No Anchor, which I had bookmarked, we decided to give this place a try for our tiki adventure on our Seattle trip. Pretty cool spot overall. My husband and I would consider Navy Strength an "authentic" or an exaggerated tiki spot because of the contemporary style, such as tropical wall paper and tiki decor in moderation, but it was still nice. We can understand that it's in a popular area of the city and should cater to a more general crowd. The drink menu totally is quite impressive too. The first page highlights geographically-inspired drinks (Morocco as of March 2019), then moves onto tropical and classic tiki concoctions. LOL. It even as a page for low to no alcohol content. Decent variety of rum. Again, menu is geared for a general variety of bar patrons versus tiki connoisseurs. It's still a young establishment, so there's room for them to develop menu however they want. The drinks are definitely tasty. Now... Why 5 stars? 'Cause of the amazing staff! I would give kudos with specific names, but I'm going to have to rely on my memory of looks. LOL. My husband threw out receipts, and I was negligent on asking for names. Anyway... There was a nice young lady with greenish-dyed hair and a gentleman with an awesome tropic tiger shirt and small ponytail. Knowledgeable staff members that know why they incorporate certain ingredients, such as using bread crumbs instead of sugar cubes for lit drinks (lasts longer). The food menu isn't really designed for someone who want a meal. It's designed for the kitchen to show off and for the customer to only try once. I see a comment on the side about the HH being lacking and I kind of agree. What they offer is an after thought because they need to have one but they don't expect people to actually order from the few options. My group and I all decided to get individual drinks at first, THEN, we found the tiki bowls on the next page which we were super excited about. This bowl is said to serve 3-4 people..... HOW?? I mean maybe I'm used to tiki bowls being filled to the rim. When we were first served this, I saw all the ice and thought that the server was going to pour all the alcohol in after! Little did we know, THIS was the drink.... We each had about 3-4 sips each and it was done lol. We were being generous when sipping to try and conserve as much as we could. When the checks were brought to us, the waiter had charged each of us the $8 plus an additional 20% gratuity based on the total cost. The total for each person came out to $17 and change. I'm really happy with this stable in the Belltown community! Great service from the staff and a lot of personal touches during this pandemic. Their Christmas pop up is allowing a lot of holiday cheer, but I would love more warm drink options! I prefer this spot due to the spread out nature of the outdoor seating! I visited this place after reading about the award winning cocktails. My husband and I really enjoyed the cocktails, we tried two cocktaiks - "Fortress of solid dudes" and "Psychic Trauma". Both were really strong. I was disappointed with the food. We ordered the yellow coconut curry and the cold noodle salad. The portion of the yellow curry was really small, it was not enough for even one person and it costed 16$ with extra 4$ for a side of sticky rice. I felt the cold noodle salad was flavorful, but 22$ for that preparation seemed like a stretch. In a nutshell, go to this place for their drinks, I would not recommend this place for food. read more

On one hand, I'm so sad that this place is never full - I really want it to succeed and stay long term in Belltown! The bartenders are a bit hard to get a hold of sometimes, but the drinks they make are fantastic - even for non-drinkers like me! There are no non-alcoholic drinks on the menu, but if you ask them for anything they are generally more than happy to throw a custom virgin cocktail together for you. They make nondrinkers like me feel welcome and at home, so we're able to enjoy an evening with our friends without feeling awkward. On the other hand, the magic of this place never being full is you can ALWAYS find a seat at Navy Strength. So in a way, I don't want it to gain popularity, because I want it to continue to be my secret spot. Even when I have a group of 10+ friends that want to meet, I know we'll be able to find seats at Navy Strength. While I can't comment much on the drinks as a non-drinker, my friends who have come with me have all LOVED their drinks. They've been strong but not over powering, and have had great flavor based off my friends' comments. The presentation is always fun as well - their menu features pictures of the drinks, and they always come looking EXACTLY like the picture, including one that comes with fire! After a conversation with one of our bartenders, we've also discovered that at least two of them have headed off to bartending competitions in the recent months as well, placing amongst the top 100 bartenders in the country. Now if that doesn't bring you over, what will?! While the food menu is sparse and the serving sizes small, as the sister restaurant to James Beard Award-winning No Anchor, it's no surprise that everything that I have tried has been delicious. My absolute favorite item on the menu is the albacore bites that come on some crunchy nori. They've also made some great tofu buns. I've forgotten already what large dishes I had, but I know my girl friends and I enjoyed every bite of the food that we ordered. What's also fun is the menu rotates monthly- I've been there for a month in both the Philippines and now Cuba. While the items stay more or less the same, they've put a different country's spin on each month, which has me coming back periodically to find out more. All in all - I love Navy Strength! We tried three drinks here and all three were the best makes things I've ever had in Seattle. Missionary's downfall was the best frozen drink I've ever had.. so crisp and fresh. Gabriellas was the best old fashioned I've ever had. So many levels. And the mai tai was explosive. Loved our bartenders too. First things first the decor is really cute, some decorations had googly eyes on them so I'm automatically sold. It's definitely more of a modern looking "tiki bar" though, for example I picture an actual tiki bar being dark with tropical music playing, this place didn't have those features. We came for happy hour and got the punch bowl for $36 which they say is meant for 2-4 people. We had 5 people so it was only a couple sips each for us but it was fun to try. We ended up getting an individual drink for each of us (none of the drinks were on the happy hour menu) I got the Hinky Dinks Fizzy, 3 others got the slushie one, and 1 got the Mai Tai. I thought my drink was delicious, I tried all of them but mine was definitely my favorite, everyone else seemed to enjoy theirs. So for those criticizing Navy Strength for the traditional Trader Vic's style Mai Tai, please stop and do a little research on how the cocktail is supposed to be made. It's fine not to like a drink but express it as such. The drinks here are good and I have experienced good service. Yes it's pricey, but Seattle in general is expensive. I wish there was a more traditional tiki decor here but it's not a deal breaker at all. I live in the neighborhood and usually pop in once a month. The coconut old fashioned (I know, it sounds weird, but trust me on this one) is one of my favorite drinks I've ever had. The menu itself is cutely designed with cartoons of each drink, showing exactly how it will be presented to you (fire and all!). I was a bit intimidated by some of the menu items the first time I went, but I loved every item I tried. The steamed buns were my favorite! The bartender was very friendly and helpful with drink recommendations when we got overwhelmed by the number of choices. I've been here twice and will not be back a 3rd time. First time they forced us to sit at a table because "it would be faster". In reality, it took about 45 minutes for everyone to get drinks and then they wouldn't split the bill and charged an automatic gratuity. Second time, I insisted I order from the bar. Service 3/5 Food 2/5 Price/Value 1/5 As always, I first comment on service. We had a female waitress with short hair in a baseball cap. Really enjoyed her energetic attitude and her effort to help us feel at home and feel food. Normally I would feel 5/5 for this type of interaction, but we were asked several times (maybe 3 or 4 times?) whether if we wanted to order drinks. We get that you make your money on alcohol, but we said no once and if you keep asking, it then becomes blatant that you are trying to upsell/extract revenue. Please don't do that. No means no. I went with a group of filipinos, and we felt that while some foods were good, there were some bad dishes. Fried eggplant and the seafood/squid salad thing was really good. Now for the pork belly, first off $28 is a ridiculous price tag for such a small plate of meager portioned meat. The pork itself tasted decent, but nothing that would justify that price tag. The green beans were inedible - extremely salty. Waitress was kind enough to knock off half the price of this dish, but still I don't understand this plate, its price point, and what they are trying to accomplish. She also brought us a small plate of dessert which I thought was a nice gesture. Coconut, garlic, pinneapple rice (plus spam and eggs) was extremely mushy and there was no hint of garlic in it at all. Filipinos expecting your usual garlic fried rice, don't expect that at all. While some may like this, I suspect asians familiar with authentic garlic fried rice will be disappointed. Seems like an asian dish "fusioned" to better suit American tastes. While I can see why Americans would like this, as an Asian I personally don't care for it. (Side note, nearly all Asians would agree that rice should never be mushy or overly soft - water to rice ratio should be appropriate and when rice is cooked, needs to be sufficiently aerated, etc.) Overall I think the food at Navy Strength is not authentic/asian, and too fusion for people expecting filipino/island food. I would typically overlook this at a fusion restaurant, but the above points and the extremely high price point for certain plates pushed this from a 2.5/3 star to 2/1.5 star place. read more

I had the Jet Pilot as my first drink and wow, what a presentation! For my second drink, I had the Mai Thai and that was very good as well. As for food, we had the buns and the pork belly.
