Decided to give this place another try since the name changed and they are right downtown instead of my usual drive to Meriden. I made an appointment for a fill. They refused do a fill because they said my nails were lifting even though it was a brand new set. I was missing three nails so no problem even tho I didn't think it was necessary. I had previously called and was quoted $45 for a fill with gel polish. When I got my receipt, I was shocked to see that my total was $101.03?! Here was their breakdown: $45 new set $20 to remove existing nails (there were already 3 nails missing) $10 for shape (I asked for coffin, these are square) $10 for length ( ?? these are short) ....so we are at $85. Where's the rest you ask? I also asked,.... They tell me $10 because the polish I chose had glitter in it...what? This is regular gel polish. The rest was tax. Navy initially explained the charges to me however when I questioned her, she walked away and asked someone else to explain it to me. When I advised my nails were short and I chose a regular gel polish, she just shrugged her shoulders. Unfortunately I failed to notice the inaccurate shaping at the time, not that it would have made a difference to them. $101.03 for a regular acrylic full set and my nails are the wrong shape. I came here for acrylic filling a while ago for the first time. One of my nails broke and I told the nail tech who said no problem she could fix it. She literally left the broken acrylic on my nail and "fixed" it by putting fresh acrylic over it. Needless to say my nails came out really ugly and bumpy. I could still feel the broken nail underneath. Furthermore she took an entire hour trying to work with a drill she wasn't used to and clearly found no issues with what she was doing. Forget about the polish, she couldn't do that either. The owner had to come in and polish my nails the right way. Overall if you are looking for acrylics do not come here. You will be wasting your time making an appointment because this place doesn't take walk-ins. read more

In search of a new nail salon and decided to check this place out. You can park behind or in front (pay at a meter) I've been trying to find a place that does jelly pedicures because they just feel soooo good! This place has it on the menu but did not offer it due to the mess... Then why have it on the menu? I did get a spa pedicure upgrade though I didn't feel it was worth $60. They also upcharge for certain new nail colors which I thought was odd. Only half of the drying machines worked so it was crowded and they kind of pushed me to go to free up some space. On a Positive note- they did a great job, place was clean and staff was friendly, but I will be looking for a new nail place. read more

I made my first appointment and was able to schedule it for a SUNDAY-so convenient for a busy schedule like I have! I arrived and was overly thrilled with my experience from the very start! Some of the ladies who greeted me at first, I might have confused with my diluted questions but felt confident that speaking to Navy on the phone the day before I would be able to get what I was looking for! I found out while sitting with Navy that she is extremely knowledgeable and also found out she has 5 years of schooling in this specialty - huge bonus for me is the fact that she can do designs and does them well! That skill is very difficult to find these days!! Finally, thank you for the great experience! The shoulder massage was a great bonus I just wish it lasted longer!! I needed a new set of gel nails put on really bad! I had no nails left and it was embarrassing so I called Navy's and made an appointment. The girl on the phone was kind enough to advise me not to make a Friday or Saturday appointment because she said with all the graduations and school dances/functions that the shop has been very busy on those days and she didn't want to risk me waiting. When I went down for my appointment on Monday afternoon I parked in the plaza behind the shop, idk if I was supposed to but the lot was at least half empty and I didn't have to pay for parking that way, I was not towed (as the signage suggested I may be). I was taken about 5 minutes after I came in and Navy herself did my nails. She suggested that I get short nails since I didn't have much of my natural nails to mount them on, so that's what I did. She was very gentle and was genuinely concerned as to whether she was hurting me or not, she was not. It took about an hour and a half to get the set completed but she made the time fly by chatting with me, not just about weather or celebrities but she told me stories from her childhood and some facts about small businesses in CT that were very interesting. It was refreshing. While my nails were drying she put a hot pack on the back on my neck and worked out some of the stress there for a few minutes. I've never had a nail place do that before, it took me by very pleasant surprise. The oils and lotions that Navy used on my hands before I left were wonderful and I really appreciated that she is genuine about her work. I can definitely see where her good standing on Yelp comes from! Prices here are competitive, the results are stunning, and the survice is fantastic! I'll go back and I recommend everyone who gets their hands or feet done to also give her a try. Navy's is one of the many wonderful places to experience on Main Street in Middletown. read more

First time alert!!! New to the area so searching for a "Go To" salon for pedicure and waxing. Navy took over for Palm..just so you know. Nice, clean and most importantly...friendly and courteous. I came in on a Sunday morning and had ZERO wait. Maria did a amazing job. I have to get used to how things work around here though.. I got my 10 year old niece's nails done for her, $45 (pre tip) is a little pricey for a basic kids manicure and pedicure (no design,) especially considering how TINY her little nails are. Wow, that was a very different experience from what other people experienced. Wish I could give this place 9 stars. Over two hours worth of time spent at the salon and I am sitting here with a crappy pedicure and mani that looks like I let a five year old kid do. Every time there are surprise charges when it comes time to pay, no matter how clear I try to be when picking my services. $15-30 extra dollars you didn't know you were going to spend and they purposely hide the charges from you until the end. It's not really the cost that brothers me, it's how shady and dishonest it is (though the cost IS higher than everywhere in the area, even before the surprise charges.) Came here for a mani/pedi based on other people's reviews, but I was really disappointed. First of all, I can't get over having been given a "dry" manicure. Never in my life has anyone started cutting my cuticles before soaking them. They were all sore and bleeding and I had to ask her to use oil on them but was told she couldn't because the nail polish wouldn't adhere. Friends, soap and water removes oil. You soak the hands, apply oil, push the cuticles back and then trim them. I paid $100 for dry, sore, chopped looking cuticles and I'm pissed. Yeah, I'm from California and I get that everyone has their "way" of doing things, but you don't cut cuticles dry. I'm mad. She didn't even use a brush to remove the polish from the skin before having me put my hand in the UV light. The polish is all janky and not sealed to the nail. Oh, and the polish on my toes is see through because they need another coat of polish. Could have had a better time with $100 at Mohegan. read more

I stopped here today to get a pedicure before vacation since I had some errands in the area (ok, why lie...I was getting a cupcake for the BF's birthday at NoRA...) and my feet were looking a bit dry and I wasn't going to have time to visit my usual place in Naugatuck since they close on the early side. Therefore I researched nail places in Middletown, and this place seemed like the best bet. I have a thing about nail salons, if you walk in and smell that acrylic stench, it makes me want to turn around and leave. This place doesn't have that gross smell AT ALL. I went at 5pm on a Tuesday and there was one other customer, so I didn't have to wait, which was a plus. So far so good. No stink, looks impeccably clean, and no wait as a walk-in? YAY. There was also a wide array of well-organized polishes (including a metric buttload of Essie and OPI.) It looked like they had a decent selection of gel colors as well, but those are kept separately across the room and I didn't pay too much attention to it since I wasn't getting a manicure. (Gel or shellac are the only way I'll willingly pay for my fingernails to be painted since it doesn't chip in 0.5 seconds) The pedicure chairs are AWESOME. I didn't have to fiddle with the controller for the massage at all. Best of all, I went for the basic pedicure ($28) and it included a hot stone massage (elsewhere I've had to get the fancier pedicure for that), an excellent massage (I hate when they skimp on the foot rubs. HATE.) It wasn't rushed at all, and the girl made my sad little toenails into something reasonable (I swear, aside from my big toes I have the TINIEST FREAKIN TOENAILS EVER). Then when I was under the dryer she gave probably the BEST back massage ever. Both with the back massage and the foot/leg massage during the pedicure - the girl was not afraid to dig in and apply pressure. It was FANTASTIC. I briefly browsed the service menu on the side of the pedi chair and they have hour long hot stone massages. After what I experienced today I might be back for one of those after a particularly shitty week when I can justify coughing up the money for one. I may need to make it a point to come here more often. I love Golden Nails in Naugatuck, but based on the massages alone, this place trumps them by far. read more

Michelle did my nails and she was the sweetest thing. She got me right in and I didn't have to wait even though there were other women in there. She was friendly while still giving me time to relax and made every effort to make sure I was happy with the services. While I was there, some regulars had stopped in that were greeted by name and we all began chatting. It's a nice little community she's created and a very welcoming salon. I'm so glad I chose Palm Nail on a whim before a dinner date. I left with beautiful looking nails that still look great over a week later and my toes haven't chipped at all. I took all of the women in our bridal party to Palm Nail to get our nails done the day before the wedding and we had a wonderful experience with them. I made a reservation for six women about a week in advance and they were glad to take us at exactly the time we requested. The work space is clean and attractive with very comfortable chairs and waiting areas, and the staff was almost all extremely friendly. I got a pedicure and gel manicure myself in very neutral tones, since I was the bride and didn't want the color distracting too much from my face or other important elements. They were patient with us while we spent a while choosing a color for me and each of my other girls, since we're all indecisive. My sister-in-law to-be had never had her nails done professionally, so we treated her to a full mani-pedi; she seemed to be quite blissful throughout. The technicians gave really nice hand and foot massages and did a great job with making our nails look classy. My cousin even chipped her nails going out to get coffee and they gladly fixed the chip for her right then and there. The staff also gave us back massages while we were getting our hands done or waiting for them to dry. My gel manicure did last well over two weeks and my pedicure is still on after almost four weeks. Everyone else was really happy with the results of their manicures and/or pedicures. At the end of the day, the prices were really pretty reasonable and I got out of there with several manicures, several pedicures pedicures, a few callous treatments, and one gel mani for just around $200. The salon was understaffed after a staff call out but both my cousin and I were treated with the highest quality service. My nails and cuticles look amazing and the service was great. I really wanted to like Palm Nail - but it was difficult to do so. While the staff was friendly and I received one of the best massages at a nail salon ever, the negatives out-weighed those few things. I walked into the salon at 3:15 on a Sunday, obviously a busier time and I was accepting there would most likely be a wait. There were only 3 women working, 3 customers being helped and 5 people waiting. I sat for about 10 minutes until they prepped me to soak my gel manicure off. I sat for about 50 minutes with the foil on my nails. I couldn't do anything but re-read the spa pedicure signs on the wall over and over again. When a technician finally got to me, she rushed so quickly that my nails have dried gel underneath and when I pick it out, my nails chip. Polish is on the sides of my nails, it just wasn't a pleasant and relaxing manicure. I do believe they could be a good salon, so I will try again eventually and see if they are any better. Horrible honestly everytime i go there my nails break within 2 days. I got my nails done recently and kim was talking about how shes going to start doing a bad job on everyones nails because she got a bad review from someone, my nail came off the next day and the shape was curvy and just horrible. I asked for a refund and they said "oh you already paid for the service we will fix wats damaged" why would i want to get my nails fixed to then have it break the next day? Then on top of that she said "obviously your hands cant handle long nails" thats rude for 1 and for 2 i alwayyssss have my nails long at other salons and they last 2 weeks as its suppose to. I've had quite a few gel manicures from different salons but my favorite gel manis were always done at Navy's! Sandy does a particularly thorough job and is very kind. They also offered me a small student discount which was nice, though I'm not sure if they still do this. Two quick tips that also apply to most other salons: -I'd suggest not walking in unless you have called beforehand, as the wait can be long if you happen to walk in at the wrong time.
