The staff was very friendly and pointed me in the right direction for recs, and I ended up selecting a hot guava latte with almond milk and a couple of alfajores. Technically it is a soft opening, but everything seemed comparable to the other locations. I picked up a couple of lattes with mini croissants, and all were good on par with the other Pearland Coffee Roasters locations. The croissants are a particular treat since we lack a French bakery in the area. The people behind the counter were clearly experienced in their roles and were relaxed, friendly, and competent. I have always enjoyed the vibe here when it was a Dunn Bros, and now it is brighter and more open due to the renovations and absence of coffee roaster (presumably roasted at their original location). Plenty of comfortable seating, both inside and on the patio. Much easier to get in and out of this location than the other locations. I miss Dunn Bros, but will be happy with what it has become.

It tastes like someone cared. It does not taste like the sad, scorched sludge you get from places that treat coffee beans like evidence to be burned. And if you want something more elaborate, they have that too. The specialty drinks rotate, mutate, and show up with a kind of reckless creativity that works more often than it has any right to. Every visit seems to bring some new concoction, some fresh little act of caffeinated imagination. Late nights at the Owl are their own species of entertainment. Beer, wine, conversation, and the grand old human circus of people watching. Someone might break into "Sweet Caroline." Someone else might decide the room needs a guitar solo. You do not so much sit there as get folded into the scene. It is noisy, warm, occasionally ridiculous, and never dull. The ube one was a little bit too sweet for my liking, but the flavor was excellent, I love a good cold foam on my coffee. My only concern is that the drinks are pricey, but to be honest, what coffee shop/cafe isn't these days. Appreciate the ambiance, but it can be busy at times or too loud to get work done. He has Type 1 Diabetes, and having nutritional information, especially carbohydrate counts, is extremely important because we have to calculate his insulin based on what he eats. The staff did not have this information available or know where to find it. I know nutritional information is not required for every business, but for families like ours, it's not just a preference. Managing Type 1 Diabetes means constantly making calculations to keep my son safe. Without accurate information, we are left guessing, and guessing with insulin can mean his blood sugar goes too high or too low. As a mom, it's hard enough managing all of the daily decisions that come with T1D. My son should be able to go out with his family, try new foods, and enjoy a normal experience without us having to wonder if we are making the right choice for his health. Having this information available would make a huge difference, not only for people with diabetes but also for customers with allergies or other dietary needs. Even with these concerns, we really do love the feel of First Cup. It's a welcoming place with a great atmosphere, and we will continue coming back. I just hope they consider improving the reheating process and adding nutritional information because those changes would make an already great place even better.
