Went to Nayo's today, one thing to beware of is the restaurant doesn't have prices on the board behind the counter, that is the first sign that you should turn around and go to Don Rubins. After I had to wait in a very humid hot building, I received my food to go. I was not impressed, I ordered chicken tacos, they were dry and not really that good, no authentic flavors here, no jalapenos, no Radish and no Lime was included in the street style tacos. I ordered rice and beans on the side, WAY OVER PRICED!! I had to ask for salsa, One helth concern, the guy running the register had gloves on and after he took my order went to the back, I do not know if he was making my food or what, but when he came out, it appeared that he was wearing the same gloves, I am concerned about this. Some of the best Mexican food I've had from this unassuming restaurant. We ordered a free different tacos - al pastor, carnitas, cabeza, and lengua - all the meats were packed with flavor and perfect texture. The quesabirria was also on point. They also had this really cool fusion of ramen and caldo de chivo (goat meat soup) called the Tapabirria amazing! So I went to Nayo because Don Rubin was closed. I ordered eggs rancheros and it was the worst I have ever had, no tortillas under the eggs no rancheros sauce just a few pieces of tomato and 2 small piece of onion, the rice tasteless and a few beans. They don't have prices posted on there board, it cost over $17.00. Insane no meat just 2 eggs and few beans and rice and a couple of tortillas. Never going there again. It was even good. We are relatively new to the area and have made it a mission to try every single restaurant in Mariposa and Oakhurst areas. We were told by friends that there were no really good mexican restaurants around, which is why we were surprised by last nights dinner! We ordered take out. I got the tacos supreme - three barbacoa tacos with avocado and sour cream. My husband ordered one of the burritos. Very tasty! We enjoyed them very much and will eat here again! After a long day at Yosemite we were on our way back to the hotel, we saw that Nayos was open and decided it was a good option. We were right! Amazing choice if you are looking for good, tasty, large portions Mexican food. I ordered a Taco bowl and my wife nachos, both were delicious. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner, great guy! His wife and him cook themselves and are very proud of their food, they have cooking together for over 23 years, and you can tell when you try it. I recommend this place and will comeback. read more

Excellent Mexican food. I'm Mexican and this place is legit. Highly recommend the queso taco with chorizo. Instead of a tortilla, it's a fried cheese crisp. SO GOOD. A friend told me this place had better burritos than the other places in town, so I thought I'd give it a try. I ordered the fish tacos and I really enjoyed them. I ordered to go so I could go eat a local park (it's California in December, don'tcha know-we should all be eating outside, not too hot, not too cold, but I digress.) My only disappointment was the packaging. Why are restaurants still allowed to use styrofoam?! It is such terrible stuff. I know it's cheaper to ship because it's so light but the damaging effects on the environment are greater costs. PLEASE avoid this restaurant at ALL cost!!! I was in a party of six so I understand how that may scare some wait-staff but our server/host seemed like he was annoyed that we walked in. We all ordered our food at the register like he requested then after waiting for what seemed to be twenty five to thirty minutes, food was brought out. I say food, not OUR food because he messed up and brought the wrong plates to our table. I ordered two chicken tacos and he brought two beef tacos. I told him I did not order beef tacos, he ignored me. When he came back to the table he took the plate without saying a word and took the same plate that was at OUR table and gave it to a couple across the room that was waiting for their food. I couldn't believe it! Then one of our friends' plate was wrong and when the server/host finally paid attention to what we were saying, he got upset that our friend took a bite out of her burrito. Probably because he couldn't give it to another paying customer. This restaurant disgusts me! Also why wasn't there a health inspection score on the outside or anywhere inside the restaurant?! Amazing! Unassuming little place on the side of the road in Mariposa, but the interior is nicely decorated and festive. Staff and owner were extremely kind and welcoming. They even brought us different types of salsa for us to try on request (which we liked so much we ended up buying and bringing home, haha). My party and I all had the steak rancheros plates- everything we ate was piping fresh and fantastic! Everything here is freshly homemade, and it shows. Definitely here when you're in the area. The chicken enchilada had no sauce and very overcooked dry chunks of chicken. The shrimp diablo was bland and the shrimp were overcooked. They provided tortillas instead of the chips requested. We were traveling through Mariposa and stopped at Nayo's Mexican restaurant for lunch. We ordered fish tacos and a regular burrito. After our first bite we looked at each other and said "oh my god this is fabulous". I have never tasted anything with such incredible flavor. The prices were very reasonable. First off, I phoned in my order cause I didn't know if it was still open at 9:45ish, I called and the guy answering was very unprofessional and kept interrupting me. Every time I'd tell him what I wanted he'd cut me off and say "that be it?" NO, if I'm phoning in an order and I don't have a menu present in front of me why would you assume that is all I need??? you should switch it from "that be it?" to "anything else I can get for you?" That at least makes it sound like care even if you don't. Second, I gave them the benefit of a doubt thinking the food was gonna be good. It wasn't. I ordered two tacos, a thing of rice & beans, and some steak fries. The tacos were greasy, the rice and beans looked like they were microwaved, and the fries were- get this... GREEN. GREEN POTATOES. I threw it away. Why on Earth, out of all the potatoes in the world would you give me GREEN POTATOES??? I'd give it one star but the guac was the only good thing there. read more

Discovered this restaurant on a day trip to Mariposa from Merced. The food was excellent and authentic regional Mexican cuisine (Michoacan). You can taste the freshness of the Ingredients. The cooks are the husband and wife owners so the food is made with care. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more
