I actually like this DMV, it is way better than Laguna Hills used to be. Santa Ana DMV is pretty…read moregood also, but between the two, I prefer San Clemente. The parking is the bad part - it is nearly impossible to find parking no matter what time you go. And there aren't any public streets close enough to find and park at to walk over. There are other private businesses but they are strict about parking there. There is a lovely, outgoing lady sitting at a table when you walk in and she helps you check-in and directs you where to go. It's a smaller DMV, one square room with plenty of seating. The employees behind the windows have been nice enough, efficient even though not the friendliest. We made an appointment for a replacement license and the whole process only took about 20 minutes.

CALIFORNIA IS OFFICIALLY THIRD WORLD…read more Several years ago I helped a senior citizen navigate the the cumbersome and frustrating DMV process, which had left the senior in tears. A review left then highlighted the disaster. Yesterday, several years later, I found myself at the same DMV. My license was about to expire, and I needed to renew it. Before I left I checked their website to make sure it was open, since you are no longer able to call. As I entered the parking lot I noticed how unkempt it was, with a trailer on jacks nearby. The lot was mostly empty; "a good sign" I thought. How wrong I was! Three chubby women came running out yelling and screaming "we're closed; we're closed". As I walked towards the building, whose doors were open, I explained "I checked the website. It said you are open". I tried to explain that my license was expiring, and I needed to renew it. They were having none of it. The "tres gorditas" formed a semi-circle, while continuing to bellow. I confess I found their posturing amusing, but somehow alarming. One of them yelled "we are only doing registration" and "we sent you a letter". I received no such letter, but thought it unwise to belabor the point. "Come back Monday" they ordered. I left, but do intend to come back Monday. But I'm resigned to the fact California is now a failed state.
