Scallop nigiri
Irene T.

Came by for lunch without reservation for two of us and was seated quickly. They used to operate on Baldwin Street but since moved to College and changed owner in 2018 (I believe). Friendly and prompt service. Facilities are clean but going to the washrooms which is located in the basement is dingy and very tight but considering the age of the building, they're only working with that they have. Their fish is fresh, nicely sliced, and delicious. The portions are generous and ended up being way too much food for us. I did get a slight stomach ache while eating but not sure if it was sushi related so I won't let that affect the rating because it's not confirmed. Either way, love this place, price did go up since though.

Chirashi bowl

Very impressed by this small but mighty sushi joint located on College! The front of the restaurant is relatively bare with big windows for natural light and a dark paint job. Sometimes during the summer, the front of the restaurant is completely open to the street, which can be nice on a warm evening. The inside is clean and decorated with some simple japanese accents. There's not a lot of seating here and they usually get pretty full around dinner. With the food and the price at which they offer it, this doesn't surprise me in the slightest! We ordered the Chirashi bowl ($19), and 2 maki rolls: the ikashiso and the futo ($7 and $8) and shared this between two of us. The chirashi bowl came with an assortment of fish on top of a bed of rice and was topped with salmon roe. All the flavors of the fish were distinct and they also did the rice well! This dish was memorable and worth it at its price. The ikashiso roll was also pretty good, with the sweetness of the shiso leaf pairing well with the chewy texture and fishy bite of the squid. The futo roll was definitely a highlight: the saltiness of the eel was balanced well by the acidity of the other vegetables and the mushrooms and this was all rounded out by the light sweetness of the tamago. Great experience here! The only thing that I should mention is that they stopped serving hot food after a certain time when we arrived (approximately 7PM) so if you're looking to try some of their hot dishes, arrive early. Although this isn't too big a deal as the sushi here is fantastic considering the price! Will definitely be dining here again in the future.

Menu as of November 2018 - decent prices!

I think that this place is a lot better than the reviews make it out to be. There are some reviews that hate on the service, but it's a small place with one server - get em a break! I was here on a quiet night and the service wasn't speedy, but it allowed me to actually catch up with the friend I was having dinner with! Didn't mind at all. Their food selection is interesting and quality. I thought it was worth the price. I'd recommend this place and I'd come back. Don't hate on the ma and pa businesses!

One of my favourite Japanese restaurants. The chirashi is my go to. Glad to see that the portion sizes haven't changed since the reopening.

Really fresh fish and great rice. Small, boutique place. Fantastic meal and a very reasonable price too.

Favorite sushi place in Toronto. Have been going to the old location at Baldwin for years. The new location is great too. Same menu&taste.

You can really tell there's a lot of care behind every course. What stood out to me most was how calm and focused the whole experience felt--it made it easy to slow down and actually enjoy each bite. Definitely a place I'd come back to when I want something a little more special.

It's been a while since I've had omakase. Yasu was easy to reserve and was under $200pp. The menu…read moreincludes 16 courses which includes 1 appetizer (containing 4 dishes), 12 nigiri, tamago, soup, and dessert. There were three add-ons (toro with caviar $25, uni with caviar $35, and caviar sushi). I opted in for the toro and uni add-ons. It was strange they give you the add-ons before any other nigiri. Everything was very good and fresh. Standouts for me was the appetizer, all three cuts of bluefin tuna, the lobster (by far my favorite), and the hotaru ika. I would've appreciated knowing that the omakase included or not included toro and uni before I decided on the add-ons but I don't regret it. It was a splurge night after all. Service was very attentive. Note that the dining space is very small. 12 seats around the counter and two tables. There was a very loud gentleman two seats from me who never learned to use his inside voice and totally ruined vibe. But that's not on the staff. Another note is that gratuity is automatic on the bill.

We were seated in a separate room from the regular sushi counter. The chef carefully prepared each course in front of us. The Kaiseki portion was served first, and after each course was given to us one of the servers described each dish and its elements. The sushi courses were served afterwards followed by some desserts. They also gave us an extra dessert for the birthday celebrant. Each dish was really thoughtful and tasty, and the fish was really fresh. The highlight was definitely the A5 Wagyu beef course. The beef was so buttery and melted in my mouth. They even explained the quality of the beef and showed us a certificate of the beef's grading. It was worth the splurge for a special occasion! The meal was amazing and the restaurant itself was welcoming and not pretentious at all.
