I travel for work...alot. And when I travel, I like to try different beers. Well, who wouldn't, right? So I punched up 'beer stores' on Yelp, and I found Ned's. This is a great little place. A lot of selection considering there's not a lot of room, tucked away in the back of a pizza restaurant. However, what they lack in size they make up for in variety. Not many places carry Lagunitas 'Sucks', but Ned's does. They even have a beer suggestion box, where you can write down what you like them to carry. No promises That they can actually get it, but at least they ask. Local beers, beers from afar kama beer some places you heard of, beers from places you've never heard of, beers from places where you wish you lived! Try Ned's. I believe that part of rating a business should be customer service. I liked saving the gas and going to Neds on occasion when they had their stand-alone store. The customer service was decent and their beers were fun. Now that they have moved to Rivermont Pizza it seems smaller and you can't find anyone to help you, greet you, acknowledge you, etc. I would rather spend the gas money to drive all the way out to Forest and be greeted and assisted at Pints-O-Plenty than patronize this establishment. read more

What a rad lil spot! You walk through a basement pizza joint, through a bar, through a seating area, then finally enter the beer grotto. I love the setting. They have a few cold cases, but the rest of the store is lined with dry shelves. TONS OF OPTIONS. Especially for a small shop. They have one section dedicated to local beers. The guy working had lots of opinions--which I like. He was adept at describing one beer vs another and made solid recs. I saw a post complaining about pricing. I'd love to ask that person where they buy well made craft beer at cheap prices. For what they're selling, prices here are fine. Go buy High Life if you want a cheap sizer. The bottle shop is located in the back of Rivermont Pizza. I did not see any signage for Ned's and had to ask where it was. Once inside, I marveled at the great selection for such a small shop. Ned's definitely receives some great beers that are hard to find other places. They had 1 bottle of Hopslam left, 2 different Founder's "Backstage series", Avery's "Uncle Jacob's Stout" and many other great finds. The staff seemed knowledgable and overall helpful. The one negative of this place is the pricing. They are a bit steep, especially for the harder to get items. It seemed to be a bit like price gouging. Since I am not from Lynchburg, I don't know if there is any competition for Ned's. Being from Charlotte, we have a large selection of bottle shops and prices tend to be competitive. Overall, I'd say this is a great store. Cool, cellar like atmosphere, with a ton of great beer. Just be prepared to fork over some major dough, for something that may sell for significantly less at other places. read more

Ohhhhh Neds. I can only drink cider, meads, and lambic. So this is going to be short review just for that reason. I love Neds. I love that they are open so late. I love the staff. Special orders, they will do what they can to satisfy your wants. They have a great selection and I usually can ALWAYS find something. A tad over priced. A lot of the beer/cider you can find at Kroger in Forest. Seeing that I can only drink cider there is only one staff member that enjoys cider, so I can't really ask "how it tastes" unless he is working...sadly. If you are a fan of small-batch craft beers, you are in luck. There will be little youve heard of, but you don't need to be a beer snob to find something good. They keep empty six-pack holders by the door and you can mix and match to your liking. These are not mass produced beers, so they are somewhat pricey, and a six pack will run at least $12. The only other place you'll find these beers is on tap at Rivermont Pizza, where they run $5 a pop. read more

The staff was helpful and the selection was not bad but unfortunately Ned's has poor prices by comparison to other stores in the region. Places like The Cellar and Oasis in Blacksburg are vastly cheaper; even the Kroger in Blacksburg stocks some Samuel Smiths that is 2 dollars cheaper per bottle than Ned's. I'm glad they're around in Lynchburg though. read more

This is a tough review to write. Don't get me wrong, Ned's is a great place to find high-end beers, but is it worth the prices? That is a tough decision. For me, I would have to say no nine times out of ten. However, there is that one time out of ten that you want something that you can't find anywhere else locally. I lived in Lynchburg for a few years and always enjoyed going to Ned's when I was looking for a great beer selection. I live in Philly now and still stop by Ned's and Rivermont Pizza whenever I'm in the area. I also learned a lot by talking to some of the employees there and discovered some of by favorite beers (Hopslam!) and ciders (Crisipin is awesome). read more

Stopped by tonight for the first time. I have been interested in getting some 21st amendment Hell or High watermelon wheat beer, as well as other 21st amendment beers. They have a fairly large selection of beer, I'd say Pints O' Plenty has a larger inventory of german and import beers, but Neds has a larger variety of domestic craft beers. I love the selection, learned they have weekly tastings on saturdays 2-4pm. I will definitely return to sample, as well as get beer! read more

I rarely write reviews, but I feel strongly about Ned's and really wanted to counteract some of the negative reviews going on here. First of all, this is hands down the best (possibly only?) place with a decent selection of craft beers in Lynchburg. They consistently stock some of my personal favorites: from Bell's Two Hearted IPA, Dale's pale ale, Ommegang, Rogue...If you can't find it at Ned's, you aren't gonna find it anywhere near Lynchburg. And yeah, it'll run you at least 10 bucks for a six pack, but if that's not what you're looking for, run down the street to marathon and pick up a sixer of bud light, sheesh. But really, what sets Ned's apart is the staff. Just today I walked in, and despite telling the clerk I was just browsing, he asked me what I liked, and he gave me four suggestions that were similar to beers that I enjoy. After I made my purchase he was like "yeah next time you come in let me know which one's of those you liked, and I'll be able to steer you towards some other good ones." Dude was going above and beyond, and it's awesome. Love Ned's. read more
