My experience with the Need for Build company was OK. We had a small project in our kitchen. We needed to install a duct into the cabinet to reroute the duct into the existing vent into the roof and patch and repair the drywall. Before the project began, the project manager communicated with us via text. He recommended companies that will do the testing and removal of the asbestos. When the test and removal have been completed, we agreed on a set date/time for the duct installation. The schedule is September 1, 2022, between 8-9 AM. The manager and the technician both arrived at approximately 9 AM. The manager explained the scope of the job, and then the technician left to go to Home Depot to buy the materials and returned at 10:30 AM. He started the job, and at noon, he said he would exchange the duct to Home Depot. It was already 2 PM, and he had not returned, so I messaged the project manager to ask if the technician was OK. The project manager called at 2:30, stating that they had pulled all their technicians because there was a water leak in another client's home. They left our ceiling open, and all their tools and nails were all over the kitchen area. When I told him that we were also their client, he said that if it happened to us, we would surely be happy that they would help us. He told us that they would continue the next day. My assessment of this experience is that: - My impression is that the project manager told the installer the scope of the job, and the materials needed were ready before the installation. In this case, he told the technician the scope of the job the same day of installation, bought the materials right after, exchanged them, and never returned (time-consuming). - I felt that we were not as significant as their other client because this was a small project. - Lack of communication. I had to initiate the communication two hours after the installer left. The project manager told us that he was unaware that his guy got pulled out to help the other client. He found out 30 minutes ago (again, that is a lack of communication from their team). It would be more understandable if they let us know as soon as they found out they needed our installer's help with their other client. -Not being respectful of our time. I took a day off to get this project done on 09/01/22. The manager told us they would continue the next day as if we didn't have work. -Lack of an emergency plan. The manager told us that this incident had not happened before. I felt an emergency plan should have been placed, so the other client's job was not interrupted. They were able to finish the next day in our time frame at 4 PM. The installer took 3 hours to complete the job. He did an excellent job, and I know this issue is not the technician's fault. He was following orders from the upper management. In addition, the project manager came to do an inspection, and after I filled out the job completion form, he listened to my experience. I felt he was sincere in ensuring we were important despite our small project. They also sent us a fruit platter from Edible Arrangements. read more

NOTE - This review is NOT for work done, but for my initial experience. I contacted Need for Build and setup an appointment with them 2 weeks from the day I called because it was the only day I could arrange to get some time off work during the day. Before we hung up, I specifically went over the date and time again. When the day and time arrived they did not show up. I waited 30 minutes before calling them. I was greeted on the phone with attitude as if it was my fault. 'Are you sure you called us? What was the name of the person you talked to?' Shame on me for not recording their name. But the attitude immediately turned me off and the fact I was wasting vacation time sitting there and being lectured on the phone certainly didn't help. To their credit, the individual on the phone finally sensed my frustration and offered to try and come later that day (was not going to miss any more work) or Saturday (they had lost my business already). What's the saying, you never get a second chance to make a first impression. Today, the last of the work for our front porch remodel was completed. We had contracted with them before on a backyard refurbish and were extremely pleased with the work, so when we decided to do the porch, we called them again. They were so professional, all aspects of the work were handled with care and we were kept apprised when each part of it from demo to cement and tiling was going to happen. Avi was very nice and professional. He never asked for our budget upfront, instead he asked what our goals were and came up with a plan on how to achieve them. I originally needed a contractor to fix a poor renovation done on my kitchen. Danny called me promptly the next day to schedule an appointment so he can take a look at my kitchen. He is very accommodating with regards to schedule, and does his very best to make it work with your schedule. He agreed that my kitchen needed some work, but discovered that it was my bathroom, specifically the shower, that needed immediate attention. My shower was done very poorly such that there was moisture detected on the walls, and water damage was imminent and bound to happen very soon. He expressed honest concern and explained to me the consequences if the problem was not addressed ASAP. I recognized the poor work and agreed with him that my shower was rushed and not built properly. Danny came prepared and presented all his documentation as a licensed contractor, complete with insurance bonds, standardized CSLB forms, and notices. He gave me a clear and reasonable estimate, and explained that he will only collect payment after completion of each stage of the project: Demolition, Preparation, Plumbing, Tile, and Completion. This really shows professionalism and gave me confidence that I am not hiring a shady contractor. Demolition was scheduled shortly thereafter I signed the contract. He secures the permits necessary, if applicable. They cover and protect the surrounding area nicely to avoid damage to the property (see pictures). My favorite aspect of this experience is that something is getting accomplished everyday. I am not left waiting in the wings for days and days without anything getting done. Danny helped me pick out the tiles that will work with my bathroom. His design ideas are wonderful, like placing the stones in the shampoo niches and along the shower-head wall, like a waterfall. I am also provided with regular updates on the project. I don't even have to call him because he calls or texts me first. Danny always seems to be reachable anytime, which is good if you're the type of person who wants immediate response. I am confident that my new shower will turn out to be beautiful, look professionally-built, and up to code. I will update this review with the finished project. In the mean time, see before and after pics. I highly recommend Need for Build, Inc. if you want a reputable and trustworthy contractor that actually delivers excellent service at a reasonable price. I needed some work done in my back yard to replace an old retaining wall and steps down to terrace, repair a large area of the pool deck pavers, to re-plant much of the yard and to install low-voltage lighting. Need for Build was one of 3 companies I contacted for the job. I received a prompt reply to my request for an estimate. Andrew arrived promptly to the scheduled appointment and spent a good deal of time talking with me about my project needs and options. He was very easy to work with and even pointed out some gate repairs they could do while completing the required work items. Highly recommend getting a quote from Avi at Need for Build for landscaping projects. Good quality and once the project is started, it is completed quickly. Front yard: synthetic turf and a low stone wall. Side yard: cast-in-place concrete pavers and rock, new vinyl gate and fencing. Backyard: synthetic putting green. They have a separate crew that only installs artificial turf. They made sure that the surface was prepared properly to get smooth roll and used concrete around the holes to be sure the ball didn't do anything funny right at the cup. The construction started on Jan 2 and was completed Jan 9. They had as many as 9 workers on site. Avi dropped by everyday to make sure questions or issues were dealt with quickly. In 2019 Nadir and his Team completely remodeled the bottom floor of our home, and did a beautiful job. (Reference my review from a year ago). They installed amazing flooring that over time developed a problem in one of the planks that was due to the configuration and heavy use of our kitchen table. Today, Nadir sent his flooring expert out to fix this plank that had cracked. He not only put in a new plank, but he reconfigured the planks slightly so that we will never have this problem again. Our family was looking to update an original bathroom from built in 1948. It was SUPER outdated and need a whole new look from top to bottom. It was a big commitment to take our primary bathroom out of commission but it is so worth it! And we are so happy to be going through this journey with Tommy of Need for Build. Over the years, we had spoken to many people about redoing the bathroom, but we never found the right person for the job. It had to be a business that had a healthy balance of accountability, quality, service and cost. Right away, we found that connection with Tommy and had no hesitation to move forward with the project. Even through Covid-19, he was the right fit. Tommy walked us through the process of finding what we wanted and what the upcoming remodeling steps were going to look like. He explained that we would be to get the best prices on our design choices through established connections and he was going to be there every step of the way to make sure that this would be a good experience (contrary to most remodeling jobs). We recently redid our front yard and worked with Ivan. He was excellent, professional, and communicated well with us throughout the entire project. Finally after 5 years, we decided to go for it and design our backyard. We knew it wouldn't be cheap but we wanted something we could enjoy for a long time. We had 5 people come out and give us quotes (for our pergolas, concrete pads, and two tiers of turf) and they were all fairly similar (minus the low ball offer people which we didn't trust). What sold us on Need for Build was the promise Andrew made that the price he was quoting us was the TRUE price and that we would not be facing change orders throughout the project. If you have ever dealt with a construction process you KNOW how frustrating change orders and the ever changing price was. The company stuck to this promise and the only time the cost went up is when WE ask for something to be added. Andrew communicated with us through the whole process and when something wasn't done to our expectation of quality (and it did happen), he was very responsive and had it fixed at no cost to us immediately. The project was done quickly and efficiently and at the exact cost we were quoted at the beginning of the project. We have other house projects we will be doing in the future, and I know I will be reaching out to Need for Build for estimates. Another huge PLUS all of their work is warrantied, and I know that this company will still be around if I need to reach out for something to be fixed under warranty (something you can't expect from all of the other companies that promise you extended warranties).
