I finally tried every black sesame item from this viral asian-french patisserie in NYC…read more Everyone knows Salswee for the cute fruit-shaped cakes, but I honestly think people are sleeping on their black sesame menu. I was pleasantly surprised by how rich and nutty all the black sesame flavors were, and that's high praise coming from me because I grew up eating a lot of black sesame desserts in Asia. *Black Sesame Mochi Cake $18.99 I got this mini whole cake for my birthday. Perfect size for a small household (around 3 to 4 slices). I just wish the chiffon had a stronger black sesame flavor, and I would've loved even more mochi and black sesame lava inside. *Black Sesame Puff Square $6.95 HUGE and such a good value for the size. It's a croissant cube with black sesame butter swirled all throughout the loaf. The inside pulled apart easily like fluffy milk bread, while the outside stayed crispy and buttery like a croissant. I could not stop tearing off piece after piece. *Black Sesame Latte $6.99 The black sesame latte was SO GOOD I got it twice in one week. It had this super nutty black sesame cream foam over a black sesame milk base, and I could actually taste both the rich sesame flavor and the coffee.

I ordered the orange, mango and mushroom suisse. There was a bit of a wait for the orders but it wasn't too bad. The cakes were secure in mini boxes and everything was packed into a nice paper tote bag for take out. The desserts were very delicate upon first glance but also easy to break apart (so things got a bit messy). The orange dessert had a more mellow and lighter flavor compared to the mango one. It had a orange mandarin jam center covered with a vanilla cream layer. I didn't really care too much for the chocolate rice crisp bottom layer. The leaves were maybe peppermint though if it was mint then that would make the whole dish edible. The mango dessert was sweeter than the orange one. The mango jam filling was sweet and had a few pieces of mango that were a bit sour but didn't take away from the overall sweet mango flavor. The cream covering the jam must've also been mango flavored. I really liked the mushroom suisse! I reheated it in the microwave for a bit before eating it. I loved the crispy exterior as it contrasted well with the softness of the puff pastry middle. The mushroom filling was also tasty as it reminded me a bit of cream of mushroom soup. I'll be giving their other savory pastries a try during my next visit. FYI, if posting on socials for the complimentary pastry, do so before ordering.

I was initially lured in by the good Yelp reviews. I liked that I could do everything online, I had a particular vision for what I wanted my birthday cake to look like and they communicated with me via email that could make my vision come true. I had a birthday celebration at a restaurant, which I asked The Evercake to have delivered directly to the restaurant. The delivery was smooth and the restaurant had the cake before I even got there. The cake was very cute and did look like what I had pictured. But...what I majorly disliked was the actual taste of the cake and being misled about what the contents of the cake would be. I selected the strawberry shortcake option for my cake and what I got was not what I thought it would be. I think it's quite normal for a strawberry shortcake to have like...real strawberries in between the layers. My cake didn't really have that, and if it did it was hidden in all the strawberry jam that there instead. I was not a fan of the cake texture too and the cream outside of the cake. Overall I felt so sad that I was feeding this to my friends and I told them that they didn't have to finish it because I wasn't going to either. So embarrassing :( Would you believe that this flop of a cake was nearly $200? And that's after the 10% coupon. I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 because it wasn't completely bad, but the cake not tasting good was the biggest thing for me. I would have preferred it the other way around at least, like if the service was so bad but the cake tasted amazing, but unfortunately that was not the case for me. After digging through the reviews some more, I found that this happened to another customer as well. I wish I had seen their review before ordering a "strawberry" shortcake from here lol dang

If you're a sucker for orange chocolate treats like I am, they brought the popular Mont Blanc coffee from Australia to NYC, and even turned it into a pain au chocolat version! It had been about a year since my last visit, so I was happy to see they finally added some seating inside the bakery. *Mont Blanc Twice-Baked Pain au Chocolat $10** Literally my dream combo. Stuffed with a THICK layer of espresso brownie batter. The orange coffee whipped cream plus orange zest made the bitter and citrusy flavors work so well together. Still sad they sold out of the Mont Blanc drink that day... *Ramp and Leek Croissant $8.5* While their sweet pastries get all the hype, don't sleep on this savory croissant. The ramp and leek cream cheese was so good I wish they sold it separately. The croissant itself was very buttery and crispy. *Milk and Honey Sticky Bun Croissant $9.5 The milk and burnt honey crème filling was super light and overflowing. But with the glaze, honeycomb topping, and filling all together, it ended up being too sweet for my taste.

Ordered some other items I wasn't too thrilled about. You'll get a decent bite from Supermoon Bakehouse. Would I come here again? NO. Should you try it out at least once? Sure, if you like croissants. I'll discuss why in further detail. My Disappointment From Bakehouse: If you use other cultures' flavors I would assume some appreciation and recognition at the very least. The ube is passable at best, while the pandan was off tasting. I can understand the inspiration the co-founders of Supermoon Bakehouse get for their flavors since they're both Australian, but the execution comes off very insincere. As if to only place an item on the menu just for the sake of shock value. It's very upsetting seeing a successful bakery business needlessly hop on a hot trend for the sole purposing of capitalizing on it. Completely removing the history of the flavors, showing complete lack of appreciation. Those trying southeast Asian flavors for their first time, they'll be satisfied because they don't know what they should expect. White people stealing things and making it their own again cause "it's the cool thing now" without acknowledging anything; a tale as old as time I guess. You can take the flavors, acknowledge it. And at the very least, make it taste good. Ube and pandan tasted like a powder from a bag.
