Wow! I came here with my boyfriend to celebrate our anniversary for dinner. Everything here is perfect!!! The medium rare filet mignon is so fresh, tender, and cooked perfectly. I like their Clams Casino appetizers. The service here is excellent. Of course dessert is a must, so we ordered the Chocolate Explosion Cake. Excellent food and service. This is a great restaurant! The service was attentive but not at all rushed and the food was superb. I would recommend the sausage mushroom appetizers as well as the Brie. We all enjoyed our evening and our waitress timed our appetizers and meal superbly. If there is an improvement to be made, my suggestion would be to enhance the atmosphere with the addition of mellow live music (piano/singer). Wow - what a surprise- we were looking g for a steakhouse this past weekend. Called a few of the popular places but was not able to get reservations. Our friends from Texas were in and we search and came up with Neil Michaels. Let me tell you the food, service, drinks and price were GREAT. I ordered a black and blue cowboy rib-eye. It was chared on the outside and cool in the middle. Perfect, our friends ordered the porterhouse for two and was also cooked to perfection. It is a must try. read more

A true hidden gem! I say that because the location is directly off of route 35 S, and it sits in its own tucked away lot, with all the parking in the park and low lighting from the road. I was recommended to go here by my sister who attended a brunch once. As soon as you get out of the car in the parking lot, you can immediately smell the grill cooking steaks, seafood, chops, vegetables, etc. When you enter the building, you can see the spaciousness of the seating, they have allot of space between tables and plenty of walking room. It holds an early 2000s charm, like a science from the Sopranos or some Martin Scorsese movie, but it's comforting. The bathrooms are outdated, but were here to eat! For this place, I think a bathroom update and toiletry refreshment tray would be received well by guests who may need a floss or tooth pick. I appreciated seeing the supervisor/ manager diligently monitoring the floor, making sure every table was being tended too. Now the food and drinks: they offer a full bar, ( serving strong drinks), amazingly cooked to perfection steaks, fresh seafood, and housemate desserts. My only con, was the timing of the food to the table, it seemed to take longer than I am used too, but I feel like it was perfect for my evening. It's been too long since I updated my past review which is why I decided to write again. We gave been frequenting Neil Michaels Steakhouse for the past 4 years and have never had a bad meal. We absolutely believe that this is the BEST STEAKHOUSE! And we've been around. This is a stand alone venue with its own parking lot. They have a fabulous bar. The drinks are not stingy - my husband thinks their Margarita is the best he's ever had. We are always graciously greeted and treated with open arms when we walk in. The venue, by the way is handicapped accessible with no steps. Over the years, we have had the best waitresses who are loyal and remember our names. We are seated immediately and they make us feel like family. This past time we ordered clams casino and oysters for a special treat and that it was. Warmed bread is brought to the table and included with dinner is a salad and a variety of veggies on the plate. Our friends tremendously enjoyed their rib eye cooked to perfection and we had the porterhouse as usual. I always have leftovers for another meal. We also ordered a baked potato which is very large to share. We couldn't have asked for more. This is a family-owned business who have put their heart and sole into this. They have followed the Covid regulations and survived. We are delighted to have a home away from home and enjoy introducing our find to all our friends who feel the same way. read more

Hosted a baptism luncheon with 60 guests on a Saturday afternoon. Everything was perfect, from coordinating with Patty to the Staff being extremely pleasant and attentive, and not to mention the food being excellent! Portion sizes were great as well. We had a wonderful dinner at Neil Michael's Oct. 27. Patty and Neil are wonderful hosts and serve fantastic food. Started with baked brie and oysters Rockefeller, which were outstanding. I had a wonderful steak sandwich, beautiful steak, perfectly cooked, great onion rings and fries. Hubby had a beautiful filet mignon and delicious salad, which was exactly what he wanted. I have been going to this restaurant with friends and family since they were located in Atlantic Highlands before they moved to Hazlet. Although I still enjoy the food, we don't go there as often anymore because they no longer have their prime rib special on Friday nights as they had for years. I understood them stopping during the pandemic when beef prices were rising so much but was hoping they would bring it back eventually as other restaurants do have it some days. So far, not yet . . . This place is fantastic. I was brought there for my 40th and the service was amazing. The waiter took their time explaining all the specials and answered any questions we had. I ordered the 10oz filet which was perfectly cooked and aged wonderfully. For dessert I got the pumpkin cheesecake which I must say is heavenly, light yet deadly since you'll be craving more of this deliciousness. The ambiance is old decor but I really liked it. Popped in on a saturday night. Place was packed. We were seated right away. Drinks came out fast. We ordered a french onion soup which was great and clams casino which my wife liked. Ordered the firecracker shrimp for an appetizer, which was good. I ordered a cowboy ribeye (medium rare). Wife got a filet (medium). Son got a NY Strip (medium). Sons steak was good. My steak came medium rare but had too much char on the outside. Wife's steak came out raw to rare and sent it back. It was basically jiggly. Came back to the table and it was still borderline rare. She decided to just cancel the order. We ordered dessert, chocolate explosion cake. Maybe I expected more, but it didn't explode. read more

The food and service (our server was Margaret) here are spectacular. We made a 5:30 reservation for Saturday 4/14/2018, were immediately seated. We tried the $29 lobster, shrimp & scallops fra diovolo over linguini, New York strip cooked medium rare, and seafood combo. For appetizers we loved the baked mushroom caps stuffed with sweet Italian sausage, spinach and gruyere. For desserts the creme brulee did not disappoint. Let me start with excellent service. Waitress was attentive but not overbearing. Very friendly. Appetizer course was well timed to main entree.Restaurant was crowded but no one was rushed. Now the food. Steak was cooked perfectly. Filet was very tender and creamed spinach was a nice addition. I wish I had room for dessert but the 10 oz filet satisfied my hunger. My friends who are from out of state dined at this establishment and were accused of using fake ID's. Everyone on that table was over the age of 21. The waiter not only humiliated them in front of the entire restaurant but they also had poor customer service due to this misunderstanding on their part. If the owners would have done proper training on how to read an ID maybe they could have avoided that this negative review. read more
