My birthday. They served my sister dirty oysters. We should have left then. She sent them back. They gave her another set. They were still dirty. She sent back. We ordered lobster bisque. Made my sister queasy and I threw up. My food came and the seafood stunk so bad my nephew didn't want to sit next to me. I just gotten sick and wrapped it as I didn't want to throw up anymore. My sister special her short ribs were tough, not edible and awful she wrapped and tossed. We immediately threw out both dishes. The kids wanted to do a birthday dessert. I figured I would try the in-house crème Bur-lee, which I let my niece and nephew try, they made faces of horror. I tried and it was rancid. I was sick throwing up from their disgusting food and they ruined my bday and made me sick all weekend. Our server CJ was excellent but she needs to work at a fine dining establishment. I've gone here years ago and had a lovely experience. Being from the Jersey shore we take seafood seriously. We would have been better off at the hotdog truck at the Keyport seaport. They comped the oysters that were returned, the soup that gave me food poisoning for my birthday weekend and their rancid in house made crème Burlee birthday dessert. It was a joke. The manager came and apologized but it was the worst food experience ever. We paid the $300 dollars and threw out our food than risk further sickness with their side of frozen vegetables. Only thing decent was the fresh lobster my mom ate and the hot dogs the kids ate. NEVER AGAIN. For years I have been frequenting Burlews. My husband and I considered it "our place". Unfortunately after his passing my children have made it a constant in out dinner plans. Well last night, (August 2) we had to leave your establishment disgusted. when we arrived downstairs the young waitress, saw our party consisted of a toddler and a baby. We were asked how many adults. I said 4 which didn't include the toddler and a need for a highchair which I stated. There were many vacant tables and no one else waiting. She guided us to a table of 4 and was told to push a highchair in. What was I suppose to do with my granddaughter? We asked to push 2 tables together and she said they weren't allowed to. Why?? We always knew there were no reservations downstairs and couldn't understand why not since there were many empty tables some next to each other. We were told to try upstairs. So up we went and when we reached the upper level. We're told a 45 minute wait. This was at 5:15pm. And many empty tables but we're told they are all being held by reservations. Which must be new because I was always told you took no reservations. After waiting again and being very annoyed by the lack of service downstairs the upstairs' waitress went downstairs to talk to them. She came up and said nothing to us. I finally said what's going on ,they were literally playing us and she said she couldn't help us. We went downstairs again and now I confronted this waitress and said with all these empty tables I can't believe we can't be seated soon. She said she can only seat tables of four and that others are split apart. And maybe. Talk to a manager. I cam there to eat with my family. That was 6 seats needed. Including the highchair. At that point we left annoyed and extremely disgusted. The wait staff we dealt with wasn't only incompetent, they were downright rude in the way they treated customers that were long time patrons. Came here because I was craving fish tacos. I had the blackened fish tacos which were so incredibly salty and tough. The fries were also tough and chewy. Really not a good dinner at all. I was so disappointed. Service was friendly but waitress never came back to refill drinks or check on us. Extremely disappointed with our experience at Burlew's. A group of 12 of us came for dinner and spent well over $1,000 on food and drinks. After dinner, we went to the bar for a drink and were shocked by how we were treated. Tim the bartender told us to "turn it down a notch" even though we were not being loud or causing any issues. Then after only a few half-glasses of wine, we were cut off for no reason. I'm 60 years old, not some kid out causing trouble, and I found the whole situation appalling and embarrassing. After spending that kind of money, we expected basic respect and professionalism. We left angry and disappointed and will never return. Popped in for lunch after not being here in years. For meals, she got the Old Glory sandwich and I opted for the Blackened Fish Tacos, which were well seasoned, but a tad too salty (and I normally love salt). She had a white wine and I started with a frozen margarita that was very weak, tasted like fruit juice and followed up with an Old Fashioned that was MUCH better. We are new to the area and this is our second time trying out Burlews. Both times we came middle of the day, post lunch crowd and pre-dinner crowd and had to wait 40 mins to be seated. Which is sort of crazy! Given that tables were visibly available. Plus they don't take reservations and had plenty of servers. Just doesn't make sense! [[HIGHLIGHT]]View was awesome, but food unfortunately just isn't worth it and needs a lot of love.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Tried the famous nachos, wings, wedge salad one visit. And then tried the calamari, fish tacos and soup of the day on another. 2/10 on all counts. Fish was fresh but dishes just lacked flavor. The other appetizers were just not very impressive (feta on a wedge salad is bizarre). Additionally, some items we ordered came out incorrectly (wings - ordered 2 types/6 buffalo and 6 garlic Parmesan and got 12 buffalo). Service was okay, friendly. Lots of local kids. Unfortunately this will not be on our rotation as a local. Wouldn't recommend to visitors or a friend. read more

We love it here. We came Sunday food is great, service is good too. I do have a complaint, my husband's pork cop came out uncooked, ok it happens, they corrected it, but I ate alone than my husband ate. I am a manager for a restaurant so I know clearly this happens unfortunately. But not even a drink off the bill. Sorry but if you want customers back you should really do the right thing. I was in the mood for seafood risotto. I called Burlew and Lindsay stayed Chef will make it fresh. Of course I went. Can't say no to fresh. First time here, definitely a pleasant surprise. As I found it to be different in a good way. I saw a sign for plenty of parking in the back. But I didn't know how to get to the back, I asked a nice guy outside the place. He stated I had to drive around the block. So I did and the packing wasn't behind the restaurant but adjacent to the walkway. I went back to the street parking on the Main Street. Walked in the glass door and seen a few businesses as I walk down the stairs towards my destination. I was Amazed. Reached Burlew and their staff all greeted me. Loved it!! I was just in Awe! Very nice decor and the view was stunning!! I announced I was the seafood risotto person. Risotto was good had the right amount of seafood. I prefer a creamier risotto. Pretty good for a requested dishes. Kudos to the Chef Lindsay was a great host. She kept me company. I had a great time. Relaxed enough to get that traffic back north. Both the hostess and waitress were exceptionally polite and engaging. The iced tea wasn't great. The rum bucket was good. Chips accompanying the chili were warm & delicious. The chili was appetizing, made with both beef & beans. Warning:FYI Wedge salad came with olives. I enjoyed the salad enough to order it again. The Caesar salad was perfect; shaved cheese and homemade Caesar dressing. The potato salad was tasty. The lasagna would have been good if the meat had been seasoned. The seafood in the Mermaid's Delight was outstanding: flounder, shrimp, scallops & lobster. Same with the Fried Seafood Combo. The chocolate cake was incredible and the ice cream complemented it perfectly. I've dined in and outdoors. On a clear enough day you can see the New York skyline across Raritan Bay. Music was as playing but at a level which allows you to have a conversation. Apparently in the summer months, if the small private lot is full, you can be shuttled to & from a nearby larger lot. read more

Happy Sunday Adventurers! I dropped in here for a late dinner and drinks Friday night with a guy friend of mine. I remember always seeing this place with live bands during the warmer months but this was the first time I ever got to stop by and check out. Catching a sunset and breeze, enjoying a cocktail or app.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Parking wasn't too bad, we had to park in the back in a small lot since there wasn't any street parking. We ordered the firecracker calamari and shrimp, with sauce on the side. I prefer having crunchy fried items than covered in a sauce. It's a huge portion for one person so definitely plan accordingly. The sauce had a kick but it was really tasty so I had no issue. My friend ordered the shrimp on crostini in this sweet & spicy sauce. You can choose between shrimp or scallops over the garlic crostini whichever you prefer. we also got the lobster bisque--pretty decent but once you try Maine lobster bisque, jersey is no comparison. I'd like to come back here during the summer to see how it is with live music and back patiol. read more

My cousin and I went for lunch. Hostess was friendly and made sure we were comfortable with our seating. We both ordered the lobster roll. It was very tasty, not too much mayonnaise and quite plentiful. Pieces of lobster were big and you needed a knife to cut some of the pieces. Normally I'd give them a 5. Been going to Burlews for over five years never had a problem. 12 of us went for dinner spent over $1000.00. Four of us decided to go for a after dinner drink. Mind you we were all over 60. Sat at the bar. Bartender name is Tim. After five minutes he came over and told us to TURN IT DOWN A NOTCH. I was dumbfounded. As we were just laughing. The people next to us even said wtf is he talking about? Then my girlfriend asks for another glass of wine. Which would have been her 4 one. But if you want to get technical it really would have been two since they only fill a wine glass half way. He told her she was cut off. WTF? She wasn't drunk, wasn't driving, wasn't loud. We all got up and left. Everyone at the bar was like Wtf is he doing. Tim the bartender is around 21ish. No personal city to be behind a bar. I bartender for 15 years and NEVER experienced anything like this. I know if Candice was working none of this would have happened. Im calling the manager today. Years ago I used to go in Burlew's when it was on route 35 in Aberdeen but I haven't been in this Keyport location. I was told it's been here 17 years. Before YELP. The view is gorgeous overlooking Keyport Harbor and Matawan Creek. The decor inside is nautical(obviously). Lobster and a Yellowfin tuna platter were excellent, very tasty with extra cilantro. Food is excellent however service not so much. Staff is not friendly at all and seems as if you are bothering them when you are in need of things. This could definitely be a top place if they just hired some better trained staff. There's no parking lot only public parking which was kinda hard to find especially on weekend nights. A very delicious seafood restaurant. I am allergic to seafood so I had no seafood items, but the rest of my party had seafood. They said the mermaids delight was delicious. The lobster looked heavenly. To drink I had the Bounty Rum Bucket, which I enjoyed. I had a wedge salad which was very tasty. Be forewarned there are olives in the salad, which is not on the menu. I also tried the lasagna. Overall it was good. The meat wasn't seasoned enough but I would give the dish a 6/10. For dessert I tried the chocolate cake which came with both chocolate and vanilla ice cream. It was divine. The vanilla ice cream cream was AMAZING. The music was all country Christmas as it's December but overall it was tolerable. Service was great, our waitress was wonderful. I will definitely be returning. read more

First real meal of the night and found this place located right next to the shore. Sat on the second floor while I side. You do have other options such as sitting outside but it was a little bit on the hotter side that day. We wanted to sit and relax. Enjoyed our dinner here, our server was pretty friendly and the food came out pretty quick. The inside reminds me of an old house and we are sitting inside. The tables are pretty close together so you might actually be touching the next group of people. Ordered just a steak and it came with a baked potato and corn. Overall the dinner was pretty small but it was still alright. I kind of wish they had other options besides corn. read more
