We asked Siri where the best place to eat in Cleveland TN was and we got Nela's. We were not disappointed. While there isn't any ambience, the place is clean and friendly. But mostly, it's the best Honduran and Mexican food I've ever had. Everything was made fresh and served hot. The ingredients were fresh and the food was nicely presented and appetizing. If you're looking for some authentic Mexican food in Cleveland, TN, then this is the place you need to be. When I say authentic, I mean the menu is in Spanish. They have a hot sauce and toppings bar so that you can dress your food up just how you want it. And tip - if the sign on the sauce says hot, it's actually hot. The food is excellent and tastes very fresh a d not greasy. You can choose from steak, chicken, pastor, chorizo, lengua, pork. And when you're done stuffing yourself with tacos, head on over to the ice cream counter. They have a large variety of flavors along with a wide variety of fresh fruit Popsicles. We rarely go out and it was my husband's birthday (eve) and we wanted to spend some time with neighbors who enjoy Mexican food. They had suggested another Mexican Restaurant in town, which we used to really enjoy, but the food had not been as good on our last visits, so I found this place with good reviews on Yelp. We have many Mexican Restaurants, so since this one was rated so highly, I thought it would be a great place...I was so wrong, and felt guilty about recommending it. Half of the store is an ice cream place and the other half has seating for dining. The booths are very old and worn, and everything felt a bit "dirty" including the salt shakers and very smudged windows. Our friends have a toddler, but there were no high chairs. We found 2 menus to share, and then when we went to the counter to order, the man who was in that area walked away and we waited about 5 minutes before a woman came out and took our order. Nobody greeted us, smiled or made any suggestions about the menu. I ordered Nela's pineapple, which is not served on a grilled chunk of pineapple as in the menu, but in a hollowed out (over-ripe) pineapple half. There were two plates of rice and beans on the table, but we thought they both went with the neighbor's meals until the end because the person who brought them out to us just sat them in the middle of the table and didn't say anything and didn't return to the table. Drinks were empty, etc. the pineapple dish is one of the most expensive, but you really do not get very much food. I would recommend the regular fajitas instead. There were flies and moths that we were constantly swatting away as we ate. I felt so bad about making the decision to eat here. There was only one other person eating in the restaurant, and he had the appearance of a homeless person. read more

The only authentic Latin food I've found in Cleveland. My girlfriend got the tostadas and I got the house special. The tostadas was great and the house special was good also. The rice and beans were the best and Cleveland by far. The chicken a top of the house special seemed like an afterthought but the enchiladas and the variety of salsas provided was excellent. We will be back and next time I will get more into the Honduran cuisine. read more

Best place in area, TN or Ga for Mexican/Latin American food. My favorites are off of the Honduran menu. This is a great place and has a great staff. I have enjoyed this place since my first visit. WOW!! This place serves incredible, authentic mexican food!! I had the Tamales (good!), but the Tacos Al Pastor were the best I ever had...and, it gets better, lol...they make delicious home made mexican style ice cream!! I tasted of a few flavors, the tequila flavor was awesome but I got rum raisin and it was perfect. They serve a hotter salsa that is worthy of the name, lol. Hands down the best authentic Mexican in cleveland. When the menu is in Spanish you know you have come to the right place. Service was great and answered every question we had about the menu items. My favorite stop for Latin American cuisine. Prices are very good, and unlike other authentic Latin American restaurants around here there is a full topping bar to customize your meal. They don't charge for extra sour cream which was a pleasant surprise. The menu is predominantly in Spanish so be aware of that. In addition, there is a Latin American ice cream shop in the restaurant. They serve the cheapest ice cream in town along with authentic popsicles with classic and unique flavors.
