I received directions from the friendly staff, I found exactly what I needed to... It was busy, they have a clean men's room, there is definitely a variety. i'm satisfied with the prices. I got a pack of nice towels for 20 bucks, I got some shop towels that I will need, 20 bucks... And the alligator wipes, these things lasted me for years. It's a good product, and it's food safe... Has to be the go to hardware store in these parts! It's like a Home Depot with more condensed aisles. I was asked if I could be helped in the most polite terms at least three times in the few minutes I was there! Also has items for your northern woods cabin! Even had popcorn for the visitors! In a town full of lovely tourist trap shops this hardware store contains the things you are likely to need! read more

I've been a loyal customer at ER Ace for some time now. In recent history, I've purchased a Toro mower, a Stihl 800 backpack blower, an Ariens snow blower, 3 chain saws and a complete Milwaukee cordless set. The reason is A, I believe in doing business locally, B, they have quality tools and C, I have the expectation of getting my tools serviced there. I was recently turned away, being told it was a "no go" on my snow blower. I had my mower, one of my chain saws and some cut loops to get sharpened. I explained there was no rush on the snow blower, but I had borrowed a trailer to get it there and needed to get it back to it's owner. The mechanic whose name I shouldve got, was disrespectful and refused to let me leave the snow blower there, so I took everything and left. I will no longer be doing business there. read more

Super friendly and knowledgeable people that hover over you trying to assist. Reminds me of stores 50 years ago. A good selection of a variety of quality products. May not be the absolute cheapest but it's refreshing to have such well trained and motivated people waiting on you. The popcorn is a nice touch too! read more

Many helpful staffers. Inattentive cashier. Too busy talking on phone during checkout to be bothered by friendly customer (yes, I'm friendly.) interaction. If returning was a likely thing, at least to this store, I'd likely not be inclined. Annually I have returned to Eagle River 2-3 times every July or August since around 2012. This is a tourist supported town. Not an abundance of jobs I'm imagining. Bothered teenagers are a fact of life. I was once one, though because grown ups back then had the good sense to not hire me to be an annoying teenage employee, I can't speak to what kind of attitude I might have been guilty of. But I do know I had very good manners. Just 2cents. I found the power strip I should've brought from home, reasonable price. read more

I'm not a hardware store kind of girl. However, I kind of like Nelson's. It's more like an old fashioned store that has everything you don't know you need for your (lake) house. They have a great kitchen section which I'm happy to get lost in. Plus they have a peasant gift department. Evidently they must have good tools and things for my husband or he wouldn't drag* me back. * it's our secret...but he only thinks he's dragging me there! read more

Girl at the counter caused me of stealing when I returned a paint can I purchased not 3 hours earlier. Said I had to take it to the paint counter and make sure I did not take it home and fill it with water and try and return it. Need to fire her right away. All this over a 17 dollar paint can. So basically I do no longer need to be in there every single day throwing my money away. All my business there is at a end. No money for you good riddance read more

Sadly, will try other hardware stores for at least a few months. Slow Sunday. Very few in the store. No greeting from two cashiers chatting with each other. No greeting or what can I help you find? from the three employees chatting with a customer. Ignored completely. This store does fine because it lacks any competition. read more

Highest hardware prices in the area. Ace is no longer the place with the helpful hardware man. Have gotten rid of their experienced higher cost employees for cheaper cost inexperienced employees. Manager of the store is more concerned with keeping costs low and less concerned with keeping experienced help who can actually assist their customers. They have lost the helpful hardware way!!!! read more

I've always been disappointed in the staff knowledge. They have given me wrong information on many occasions. I only go to Nelsons Ace when I'm in a hurry and don't want to make the trip to Rhinelander. The other issue is their prices are alway way higher than other stores. I've checked and it's 20 to 30 percent higher. AND, they won't even price match on the exact same product. As bad as it gets in the northwoods!!!! read more

Not a fan. The management has not been enforcing masks for employees or customers and now they seem to be proud to say masks are optional. As a town this continues to be a step backwards. Out of kindness and respect for the health of all the community, all retailers should be requiring masks. I for one will be going to other shops that require masks or ordering online. read more

Whenever we go to Eagle River, we always stop in here. While it's an Ace Hardware in appearance outside, it's really quite touristy inside. Yes, there's lawnmowers and even a few snowblowers on display in August, fertilizer and yard tools, but there's a whole lot more inside the store. Nearer to the checkouts in the front end of the store, you can get T-shirts, postcards, north woods themed home decor items, candles, and lots of neat items you wouldn't expect from a hardware store. It's a good place to get some cheap sunglasses, which we do every year when we visit. At the same time, be warned as some things are a bit pricy here compared to the prices you'd get in other towns up north. As you venture farther back, you get into the paint, screws, tools and usual hardware stuff you'd expect. So if you stayed in about the first 5 rows near the front, you pretty much saw what you needed to see in there. Nelson's has often held special tent sales in the parking lot to tie in with events happening in Eagle River too, so give the discount bins a glance if you're visiting on a special event day. read more

I was extremely disappointed that the staff are not complying with masks and social distancing. I asked the woman who was helping me about a mask and she rudely replied that most of the employees in the store already had COVID. Being a health care provider, it is well documented that you can get the disease a second time. I am in the store weekly and will be going to Menard's and Jensen Aikens were the employees wear masks. read more

My husband and I went to Nelson's today (12/28/20). We were glad to see most customers wearing masks. However, several employees were not wearing any or wearing them incorrectly (below their nose). We were disappointed! Nelson's: you can do better! Don't show your lack of care for your customers by not masking! read more

I love Nelson's. When you have a lake cottage which is over a 100 years old, you always need "stuff". That "stuff" may may be a new coffee maker, a wall clock, bungee cords or a 15 foot length of chain. I can always find that "stuff" at Nelson's! read more

Nelsons Ace Hardware is by far the best hardware store I've ever been too. Overall the service was quick, friendly, and informative. Hannah was a friendly and helpful cashier. I would recommend Nelsons to everyone who visits Eagle River. They have a bit of everything, from swimsuits to drill bits. 10/10. read more

I've been dealing with Nelsons for over a decade and the service has always been above average. I was surprised yesterday when, after a call to confirm they had the couplers I needed, I made the trip from Three Lakes only to find they didn't have them, didn't carry them,and the response was simply "I guess someone gave you bum steer". Not the customer service attitude I've experienced in the past. Hopefully the "Helpful Hardware Person" was just having a bad day. read more

Really helpful, but a little pricy. It is nice not to have to head to Rhinelander for every little piece of hardware you need, but if you can wait until your next trip down south, I would. For small trips, Nelson's is the place, but for a bigger project, I would head to Rhinelander. read more

We went into Ace Hardware in Eagle River today looking for a Christmas gift. We will not go back. I had my hand in my pocket because I had put my gloves in the pocket when one of the employees kept looking at me like I had put something in that pocket. We turned down an aisle and he followed us and kept watching us as if we had stole something. We were still looking around and when I ask a older man how to find something. He was rude and acted like we should have found it ourselves. We did buy the item we were looking for, but we won't go back rude people don't need our business. read more
