Charcuterie board with goat cheese, manchego, salami, bread, and accompaniments
    Jennifer O.

This cozy wine bar/store is located next to many busy restaurants on Riverside. It's pretty subtle from the outside but not to be missed. It was our first time here and we had a great experience! Our host Hannah recommended several nice wines to go with our charcuterie board (two cheeses, salami, bread) - our favorite was their sparkling rose. Btw she was the only one working and did a fantastic job taking care of everyone in the store. A few FYIs.. they currently no longer have happy hour but their prices and pours are quite reasonable at regular costs. Most of their food options are smaller bites but you're welcome to bring your own food in if you want something more substantial. Really enjoyed our time here and will be back! Most of the store was regulars so definitely a good sign. Highly recommend!

I maintain that you discover the best little places when you're not looking for them. We were waiting for our sushi takeout about three doors down, and decided to take a stroll by the storefronts. This little wine shoppe had beautiful ambient lighting and a friendly face. We saw two people sipping wine and thought hey! Let's do that. Glad we did! I got a glass of Skylark Rosé and it was so delicious! The perfect glass. They have a fridge in the back and offer lots of great little eats by Room Forty, a privately owned and operated upscale meal service. Buttermilk biscuits, baba ganoush and pita kits, you name it- this place has everything you need for a date night or evening with friends. You must wear a mask and you must sit outside. Ariel was very sweet, friendly, and helpful when selecting our wines. These days, friendliness seems hard to come by. Her service and conversation took us out of the pandemic funk and for that brief glass of wine on the patio, we forgot about everything else :-)

A chill wine bar with industrial vibe, also a wine store. The tasting menu has mostly Spanish and Italian, but also a few French and local central California wines. Happy hour is 1-4p weekends. I'm sad their happy hour ends so early. The prices are very reasonable, ranging from $7-16 wines per glass and also beers. Great service. There were 4 snacks on the menu. Like chips, almonds, egg, chartcuterie plate. Perhaps the last is the best if you're hungry, or just go to nearby shop for other food. The atmosphere is chill and cozy. Indie fans, they play music like Heartless Bastards and War on Drugs. The people are very friendly. Parking is on the street, valet in back or nearby lots. It wasn't a problem at 5pm Saturday. I tried the Granacha Blanca, a light, mellow, citrus similar to pino Grigio from Spain. There are also some very light, non sweet reds. It wasn't my style of wines, but you may like it. If you're in the area, it's worth a visit.

THE CUTEST little wine spot! You know when you're always trying to find your local neighborhood bar that you could walk to from your apt?! This is the spot for me! I mean aside from some others on my list that's nearby, this one is perfect for me because I pretty much only drink wine. I asked for a prosecco and she recommended something specific (cava?) and it was delightful. I also love how intimate it is and the staff is so friendly! Definitely coming back soon :)

Perfect for a glass of wine before dinner! This is definitely our favorite spot for sushi pre-game (we love Kabosu the next door sushi place, but the line is always at least 30 minutes so we are obliged to get a drink to kill some time)! They have very fine wines - the place is intimate cozy and romantic, we usually go for the bar and we always find some people to chat with I would recommend it for a date (if he or she is a wine lover) or for a catch up hang with friends! Ariel is super sweet and very attentive. We love the cab on the menu so much we ended up buying a bottle as they only had 2 left and we did not want to miss out! They have also few snacks to accompany with the wine so that you donne get drunk lol!

We are newer to the Toluca Lake area, and have so enjoyed our time exploring all the incredible local business within walking distance of our home. Spin the Bottle wine studio is no exception! They have been on our list for some time now, and we finally had an opportunity to stop in a few weeks ago during a local open house for some of the businesses. We grabbed a seat by the big front window (my new favorite seat for anytime we go!) and perused the menu. They have a great selection of wines and we settled on a great Cabernet. The staff was friendly and the space is small and intimate, really charming. Can't wait to return soon and try their Tappy Hour!

    When is their happy hour?

I believe the Spin The Bottle happy hour starts at 4pm but I've never used it. I'm always there early...2pm or so. Not a huge selection of wine and beer but everything I've had in wine has been really good.

It was absolutely delicious and I had to make a conscious effort not to lick the bowl. Now to the food, we got the frites (10/10) and the 2 item charcuterie board (10/10), both on the happy hour. Super reasonably priced and both amazingggg. We thought about ordering another charcuterie board. We also got a bottle of the pinot Gris (skin contact) and it was delicious. I love a skin contact wine so I'm biased but everyone should try them. We also did glasses of the chenin blanc and the carmenere. The chenin blanc was probably my favorite I've had of the many I've tried and the carmenere was super unique. The service was fantastic (shoutout to Isabella) who was helpful and nice. Also super attentive even when it was busy! The outside patio is super nice looking and vibey. String lights and candles on the tables with a chef grilling right as you walk out of the door. Outside was a better temp and ambiance so we elected for that . I was expecting wood fired pizza, but they didn't have it unfortunately :( Not a lot of food options here, more of a casual place for a glass of wine.. so we got wine and charcuterie and left instead of dinner as planned. The cheese board was honestly depressing, with the bread being the best thing on there. I wish there was more cheese .. It was a cute place, but I felt a bit bamboozled . We were sat next to a bush , basically directly next to another couple, which felt like we were in their conversation. My car got trapped in with the parked when we were ready to leave. Service was mid , not very personable . Not sure I'll be back for dinner , maybe if they got some better food options. But cute for a glass of wine if you are local.

From the moment we pulled up to valet to checking in for our reservation, everything felt smooth and elevated. We got seated right away and our server, Roger (I think that was his name), immediately set the tone for the evening. He gave us a great rundown of the menu and the concept of the restaurant, which made the experience feel more personal and immersive. We started with the Hokkaido milk buns and wow... that brown butter was dangerously addicting. Soft and almost mousse-like with the perfect balance of sweetness and salt. I could honestly eat that by itself. The buns themselves were delicious too, though I do wish they served them piping hot like the bread at Texas Roadhouse or Lucille's Smokehouse. The yellowtail crudo was incredible. Super fresh, melt-in-your-mouth texture, and the chips added a nice crunch while the fruit brought a bright, robust flavor that paired beautifully with the fish. Easily one of my favorite dishes of the night. A friend of my friend happened to be working there that evening and surprised us with the kale sprouts. Funny enough, we had literally just been debating whether to order it. It turned out to be such a great dish -- smoky, crunchy, and packed with flavor. The raisins added a really nice touch of sweetness. We ended up saving some of it to eat alongside our entrees and it paired perfectly. My friend ordered the dry-aged branzino and it was excellent. Crispy skin on the outside while the fish stayed soft, juicy, sweet, and savory inside. The Oaxacan mole felt like such a bold choice but somehow worked beautifully with the dish. And that burnt sweet potato? So soft and flavorful it practically melted in your mouth. I went with the dry-aged duck breast and loved every part of it. It came with pommes aligot layered with duck au jus and fermented black bean underneath, which sounded unexpected but tasted amazing together. Rich, savory, unique, and comforting all at once. The potato pave was another standout -- crispy on the outside, tender and rich on the inside. Absolutely delicious. Everything about the night was memorable: the atmosphere, the music, the food, and the service. Verse is definitely one of those places that stands out from the usual dining scene. We started with the kale sprouts and buns appetizer, then my wife ordered the mushroom risotto from their vegetarian menu, which was a really nice surprise since we hadn't seen it online and it gave her more options, and I had the NY steak. We also shared the corn elote on the side. Everything -- and I truly mean everything -- was delicious and incredibly satisfying. One thing I really appreciated was that dinner felt like an experience rather than a rushed meal. The food came out a little slower than at most restaurants, but honestly, that made the night even better. It gave us time to enjoy the music, relax, talk, and savor each course as it came out. Sometimes with upscale restaurants, you worry you'll pay a lot and still leave hungry. That was definitely not the case here. Verse exceeded our expectations, and we'll absolutely be back! Next time I wanna try that tomahawk steak!

TLDR: The best way to unite group of people is with some paella!! Small place but great ambiance…read moreand even better service and to wrap it all up is a gorgeous meal Ordered Kale Salad: 3/5 - If you need a good palette cleanser then this is a good one to have. You can't really go wrong with a the kale version of a house salad however there are plenty of other options you could order Scallop Crudo: 5/5 - So incredibly blown away by this? I don't think I've scallop this good in years. Melts in your mouth, the sauce is light but perfectly pairs with the fish. I could not get over this one Gambas Al Ajillo: 5/5 - If I could lick the plate clean publicly and without discrimination I would've. The sauce reminded me of some of the best pasta ive ever had. The shrimp was big and well marinated, oh what fun this one was! It was a crime this didn't have more bread to soak it in. I'm not just leaving money on the table, I'm leaving bliss. Potatoes: 5/5 - These were really good! I loved the heat this had and the sauce to go with it. The seasoning great, the skin was crispy but still a soft moist potato inside. These were great to share. Paella Mariscos - 4.5/5 - After everything we had this was a fairly good portion for 3 people even though it says it serves 2 (I still stand by the 2 serving if you don't have much tapas). With that said I think this was a little more on the simpler side when it came to flavor. You could tell it wasn't trying to do too much while still letting you know she's the star of the show. There was a good amount of seafood all of which was cooked really well. The rice was perfect and the sauce ratio was great as well. I had some the next day and it was even better. I really think those scallops just stayed in my mind the whole night. Bread Pudding - 4/5 - I really appreciated the creativity behind reinventing the bread pudding! It was like a cinnamon roll esc type which was a fun but not blow me out of the water dessert. With that said everything on there looked so good so my eye is on the key lime next. Wine: The Albarino was great! I've never heard of it but was a fan favorite. Paired great with all the food. For 3 the total came out to $280 (with tip) which wasn't that bad. Service: 5/5 I forgot our servers name but he was so sweet! He gave us his recs, checked in on us frequently and was accommodating. I also feel like he was serving a lot of tables so his service was stellar! Ambiance: 5/5 The place is tinnyyy but man I am obsessed with the interior. Its swanky without it being pretentious. Intimate feeling but can feel the atmosphere. Not sure what the noise level was like inside, we were outside (two tables on the sidewalk), but it seems like it could get a little loud. Parking: N/A - Its a prime spot on ventura, only metered so...can't really knock the place off that. Really excited to come back here! Hopefully in the near future!

The staff was very friendly, and the owner checked in frequently to make sure we were enjoying everything. We ordered the patatas bravas, fries, mushroom bruschetta, asparagus, calamari, octopus, and branzino. Every dish was delicious and perfect for sharing between 2-3 people. For dessert, we had the cheesecake with strawberry sauce, which was amazing. They also have a great wine selection and delicious sangria. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would love to come back to try more dishes. 10/10 -- highly recommend!

The space isn't very large but they have some tables inside, some small "booth"-style seats that only seat one person per side, some bar seating, and a couple tables. They also have a table out front in their patio. They have an extensive wine list with a little bit of everything. They also have a happy hour until 6pm which gets you $2 off select wines. I've come here before and tried a bunch of their sparkling wines which was so fun and delicious and last night I came by and tried one of their NA sparkling rose wines which was pretty nice! I love that they have a couple NA wines on their list. Staff here are always so friendly. Prob my favorite local spot, just wish it was bigger!!

They have small two person booths, bar seating, and some seating outside. I recently came for a fun girls tarot card night and had so much fun. Great selection of wine, and food menu is small. I never come here expecting to eat a meal, I usually just get a little charcuterie board to go with my wine and it's great to share. Food can sometimes take a minute, because the person pouring the wine is also the one making your cheeseboard. Folks behind the bar are always friendly and approachable. One of my favorite spots in the Valley for a glass!
