Having picked out two different cans from the beer cave, the clerk at the front counter rang them up and said "12". I paid, then headed into the L.A. night.... At a red light just down the road, I looked at the receipt: $12.93. Then it hit me that these didn't ring up correctly, and saying just "12" felt deceptive. Thankfully, I had asked for a receipt. One beer rang up as $5.39, and the other $6.39. Back at Circus Liquor a minute later, I pointed out to the same clerk that he had overcharged me... one can absolutely had a $4.99 sticker on it (and I, incorrectly, thought they both did). Pointing out the pricing discrepancy, he pointed at the can that didn't have a sticker and said "That one is $5.99." The receipt showed neither beer rang up at that price. Luckily, an older gentleman also working behind the counter stepped in at that moment and asked how we could resolve this. He offered for me to swap out the $4.99 beer for one more expensive to make up for the difference. That was fair enough for me. Yet, with the lack of prices, I looked for a fair trade and felt like my choices were limited. There are plenty of other options around and plenty that are completely transparent with their prices. Thus, I have no plans to stop by Circus Liquor again. If you do visit, I strongly recommend you ask for a receipt and check it! A second star is given only because the older clerk did a good job of diffusing the situation. The other guy was no help.

However, I became increasingly uncomfortable when the cashier began continuously staring at me. It was not an occasional glance -- he watched me the entire time I was in the tequila aisle. He may have been the same chunky cashier referenced in a previous 1 star review. Even when another customer called for assistance, he only looked away momentarily before returning his attention to me and monitoring my every movement. This behavior made me feel extremely uncomfortable and unwelcome. To anyone considering patronizing this establishment, I would strongly recommend taking your business elsewhere. Racism and discriminatory behavior should never be tolerated.

I used to live a few doors down from Prestige, so I shopped there pretty much every day, and am quite familiar with Eric's... antics. To those saying his boss should lay him off, I wouldn't get my hopes up. Eric's been working there for something like 15 or 20 years. He's usually late to work, and often closes shop up to an hour early. The owner doesn't care. Eric would always bombard me with his ultra-right-wing rhetoric the instant I walked through the door. He would also regale me with the most absurd conspiracy theories you could possibly imagine... real crazy stuff. I would normally avoid such a polarizing place, but like I said, I lived virtually next door to Prestige, so it was incredibly convenient for me. As to Eric's right-wing outbursts, I would simply reply "REALLY? WOW! SHOCKING!! SEEYA LATER!", and get out as quickly as possible. So, yeah. If you can endure/ignore being hollered at by Toluca Lake's homegrown version of Alex Jones, Prestige can be convenient. But if you DON'T want to be bombarded with Eric's endless "LIBERALS ARE LITERALLY SATAN!" screeds, you should probably shop elsewhere.

Big parking lot, prices a tad high (which I expect), but the selection for wine is decent. Also, the soft drinks selection is plentiful for a quick pick me up. I've been shopping on and off at this store for years, and I don't mind stopping to get a few items while in the area. I'm branching out, this way is safer to find less crowded places, off the beaten path that have cool merchandise. You can always browse a tad and discover something new!

The moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly and enthusiastically by one of the employees, who explained how the tasting worked. They also had a representative from one of the featured ice cream companies there, and together they let me sample just about every flavor they were offering. I probably tasted four or five flavors, and every one of them was incredible. Some of the unique flavors included Sweet Corn, Black Sesame, Mango, and Ube. I had never tasted anything quite like them! They also had a toppings bar, and both ladies offered recommendations on which toppings paired best with each flavor. Trust me--don't skip the cinnamon pecan topping or the sweet chili sauce. They sound unusual, but together they are absolutely amazing. What impressed me most, though, was the customer service. Every employee I passed greeted me with a smile. They genuinely cared about the products they carried and were happy to answer questions and share recommendations. Their friendliness and enthusiasm made the experience even more enjoyable. They are known for their impressive wine selection, they also carry frozen foods like pizzas, specialty items, and a wonderful assortment of unique gifts.
