I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon looking for a hojicha latte. There was a wait at the window. I ordered an iced hojicha latte. i think is was over $8 and it was tiny. It tasted like mud. They just mixed hojicha powder with cold milk and it does not actually dissolve. It had a sandy feel in the mouth and the taste was very muddy and strong. Not worth the wait or the money. The prices are cuckoo-crazy and slow service. There are way better hojicha lattes out in the world. read more

The cocktail I had was pretty good, but the menu didn't indicate it was frozen, which can make me sick. We were on a tight schedule, since my partner had to be at work. I ordered a basic sando. I watched my partner receive his food and beverage, consume his food and beverage, and finish his food and beverage. A server never appeared in that amount of time. I tried to alert someone passing that I'd never received my food, although how could they not know? I was told "they are working on it" (egg salad?) and that was it. More time passed. Maybe 30 mins. When I finally tracked someone else down (our original server had disappeared) and explained that I had never received my food, they just said, "yeah, we forgot." We had to leave at that point and I had to *quickly* find somewhere else to get food because it's a dangerous situation for me to have alcohol on an empty stomach. Ugh Nem's worked hard to try and make me sick and I resent it. I have to applaud firsts, and in two decades of eating out this was the very first time a restaurant told me they forgot to make my food. How do you fail at the only thing you're supposed to do? lol Instead of comping my drink (OR LITERALLY ANYTHING!?) they just shoved a screen at us set to a 25% tip. What an absolute joke. read more

I've lived in NY for almost 10 years now and, I'm telling you, this place is really special. I have a really high bar for food, because if I'm going to spend my hard-earned money on food I want something really good. And this place is really good. Honestly, the Katsu sandwich is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. It was flavorful, the bread was toasted perfectly, it came with a nice little salad. It was great. I also got tea and I like that they gave you the little glass teapot. Not only was the food great, but the service was really good too. My server noticed that I needed more napkins and he brought me more napkins. I can't remember the last time a server was so attentive. I also like how they have a little breakfast bar inside so you can eat your lunch solo and look out the window and enjoy the view. Lastly, I took a look upstairs and there's this super cool bar with Sake, Japanese whiskey, and cocktails (it opens at 5 pm). This place is special. It's clear that they care about quality and they've put a lot of thought into everything from the food to the service to the decor. Definitely check it out and see for yourself. read more

I've been here twice. The staff is super sweet but disorganized. The first time I went I had the tofu and it was delicious! I give it 4.5 stars. So I came back because I wanted husband to try the tofu. The second time I sat and ordered the tofu and the avocado sandwich. They told the kitchen is backed up so food is taking 30 minutes to come out. I said that's fine. 20 minutes later they told us there's no more tofu. So I ordered the sushi roll, I give it 2 stars. You get 4 pieces with just veggies for $20 dollars. Don't get this! 40 minutes into me sitting they would come around and kept saying it's coming now. Mind you the other tables are also upset. Over an hour I got up and paid for the roll and drinks never got my food! It sad because I live in the neighborhood I frequent the places I love and I want to love this place but I think it's run horribly! The management needs to communicate with the staff and kitchen better and figure out how to get food out properly and keep guest happy when it's not going well! Everyone was sort of running around unaware of what's happening! I read the other reviews and I don't like that they blame the wait staff and how people are new. If you had proper training and management who can orchestrate a proper service this wouldn't happen repeatedly. Food: 3 / 5 Items ordered: Japandi egg salad sando($16): the egg salad was creamy and had subtle sweetness. It is definitely one of the least sweet egg sandos I have tried but has a good balance of flavors and sour dough added a nice texture Chicken Katsu sando($19): The katsu was crispy but a bit too raw in the middle for my personal preference. The chicken was seasoned nicely, and the Japanese mayo added sweetness and creaminess. A nice airy crispy texture of the sour dough was a nice combo with crispy katsu. Sunset beach smoothie($11.95): The smoothie was made with fresh fruits and didn't taste any artificial syrup. Refreshing and has a nice sweetness Uji matcha affogato($11): I got matcha gelato instead of fraiche gelato due to inventory problems. The koitcha(matcha) cream has a slight bit of bitterness and sweetness at the same time. The warmth of the koitcha melted the gelato slightly and created a perfect bite of cold matcha ice cream and warm matcha cream. Service & Ambiance: 3.5 / 5 I wouldn't recommend this spot if you are under a tight schedule. It took about 30 minutes to get our order and the table next to us. The paper food menu we received had food stain all over. It didn't feel great to touch the menu that had food stains all over, but the drink menu was coated and was in better condition. Staff brought food that belonged to other tables and had to confirm that it wasn't our order multiple times. I think their table to order mapping had some issues the day I visited. Lovely staff, ambiance and array of items on menu. However, the service is extremely slow and feels a bit unorganized. I waited 30 minutes for a smoothie to be made. Inside felt understaffed and the staff that was working moved at a very slow pace. They also mixed up the tickets and gave two people behind me their order before I received mine. I've been here twice. Each time we sat outside and the service was great as was the food and drinks. I had this tequila smoothie that was one of the best drinks ever. The chicken cutlet sandwich was amazing as was the egg salad sandwich I had before. My wife had Nem's breakfast and said it was the best breakfast she can remember. It's a busy place with lots of choices in food, coffees, drinks. Each time we were there the people sitting next to us were so delighted with their food they would share their enthusiasm. It's so nice to eat somewhere in NY where people actually interact because they're food is so good. Also, they have deserts that are scrumptious. I've been to this restaurant a few times since it's so near my favorite music venues. Each time the food has been over the top great. Beautifully prepared, original, just delicious. Also the service was spot on.. Waitpersons were gracious and eager to be helpful. All of my orders arrived within about 15 minutes...maybe once on a weekend I waited a bit more, but not much. I've given this place a chance not once but two times. The smoothies are really good- I'll give them that. If you don't mind paying $16 and waiting 20 minutes. But that's not even my real problem with it- the man who works there is so UNBELIEVABLY rude. The first time I went I ordered and was waiting to pay- place completely empty and he yelled at me annoyed, "can you move!" I said I was waiting to pay and he said I could pay after I got the smoothie. Then a line started forming so I awkwardly had to cut everyone in line after I got my smoothie to pay at the register (while he took peoples orders.) The next time I went I ordered at the window outside specifically to avoid cramming inside in the way of someone. And he did it AGAIN! I was waiting (for my 20 minute long smoothie) not in front of the window, next to it on the sidewalk (and no one was there) and he yelled at me to move for another customer (who I was not anywhere near not in the way of) and who wasn't even ordering - she was just looking at the menu! I was excited to try the food here with my girlfriend as it seemed great. We were seated outside and took almost 15-20m for someone to come and take our order (after having to flag them down). Then, we had to wait almost 1 full hour to get the food. We ordered at 1 PM and got it a little after 2. We had to flag down the waiter multiple times to ask for the status and they just kept saying the food is coming. I don't like leaving negative reviews esp for a new small business but it's really hard when it seemed like we were trying to accommodate them. When looking around to, everyone's food was getting delivered to wrong the table and everyone was looking irritated for their food. The staff was new and also training which is where I am giving it credit and not leaving 1 star. I understand training takes time and is necessary -- My only suggestion is please please just be up front about the training and how long the food will take to the customers planning on dining. Just tell us it's 1 hr wait so we can plan accordingly and not be unexpectedly irritated the whole time. We had other plans and because of the whole dining experience we were exhausted and the timing of our day was completely thrown off. I really hope this place will become better because it has a good chance to being a staple in WB. I hope in the future I can change/add to my review! read more
