Looking at Win Son from the street, you would never guess what it looks and feels like inside. Located at the corner of Ave of Puerto Rico in Williamsburg, this part of Brooklyn hasn't really seen the gentrification of other parts. BTW, their bakery is catercorner from the restaurant and absolutely worth a visit. Inside, the decor is simple-not Spartan-comfortable and functional. The tables are spaced nicely to provide privacy for each group. The evening that we were there, the sound level was comfortable. We could easily have a conversation around the large table. Our main server Lizzy was great. She has an amazing energy and smile that is so inviting. You're already enjoying dinner before you even order. We were 6 people and so we could order a wide variety of dishes. Some of my favorites were the scallion pancakes, lobster rice rolls, clam and basil and marinated cucumbers. There are enough choices for a vegetarian, pescatarian, but not for a vegan. We walked out satisfied and really happy. And then walked across the street to the bakery! read more

Disappointing. As an Asian-American, who also loves some fine dining, I thought Win Son would be a gem to have, being both taiwanese-fusion and on the michelin guide. But the food just wasn't great. I got the fried eggplant, pea shoots, big chicken bun. Everything was as pictured, the portions were good. But, in general, I would have loved if everything just had a bit more flavor? The only dish out of the three I really liked were the pea shoots but at the end of the day they're just peashoots stir-fried in oyster sauce, topped with fried garlic. The eggplant was very bland by itself on a layer of what I think is greek yogurt(?) topped generously with cashews and fried garlic. The chicken bun was also quite flavorless except I think the sauce had some weird flavor to it that tasted like the tofu in it had fermented to me? I actually couldn't even finish my burger and gave half of it to my roommate and she said it was good but that it was a bit too spicy for her? And there's nothing in the ingredients that should be spicy, so there was definitely some funk in that sauce. Which is a shame because if the chicken were a bit more seasoned and they stuck with a regular kewpie blend it could have been a pretty standard burger. Same with the eggplant, I ended up throwing some sugar and soy sauce and stir-frying it to a more classic chinese style and it ended up tasting immensely better especially with the creamy sauce on the bottom giving a contrasting but balancing taste. I can see what Win Son is trying to attempt with their flavors I suppose...but it's just not for me. I will admit I did order delivery, so take this review with a grain of salt. I also do usually try to go to a restaurant in person to give them a fair chance if I see that the food may have potentially been better but just been knocked down due to delivery times and containers. But seeing how the flavors just weren't there for Win Son, I wouldn't want to return even for that. Edit: Gave it an extra star because I assume the service and ambiance here must be amazing. The offering is very tasty Chinese food that executes the flavors and techniques well, while also fitting into the Brooklyn atmosphere of service and vibes. Marinated Cucumber - Pays homage to a very home style marinade that is boullion forward; the roe and fried onions add significant texture and color that give the otherwise simple dish a lot of life. Pan Griddled Buns - Classic street food comfort elevated in both flavor and presentation; the buns have a crisp texture on the outside with an impressive amount of soup inside. The chili flavor and crunchies on top help elevate this dish as well. Boba Pancakes - Intensely sugar forward dish perfect for those with a sweet tooth. The pancake is fluffy and absorbant, and is the perfect medium to consume with that tender brown sugar boba. The oolong whipped cream is a light contrast, and the subtle notes of the tea are distinctly tastable. Hibiscus Iced Tea - Beautifully decorated with both a lychee and candied flower to make this a worthwhile cocktail. I went to Win Son restaurant years ago and remember loving every dish. I finally came back after 7 years and while it was good - it was not great. Starting with the cocktails - these were my fave part of the meal. Super unique & balanced. Not too sweet. Next apps - we got the marinated cucumbers. I personally did not like that skin was peeled. It made the cucumbers way less crunchy. For the mains, we split guohua jie salad, sesame noodles & beef roll (minus the cheese). The beef roll was a bit dry, granted we did remove the cheese & the waitress said it was for texture, but I feel like no cheese shouldn't have made the meal that dry. Ended up taking half of it home - added hot sauce & it was much better. Salad was probably my favorite item. Noodles were OK. My biggest critique of all the dishes - there's way too much crunchy onions / peanuts on all the dishes. It makes them feel all very similar. Came here for a friends birthday dinner and the ambiance/interior was so cute! Our servers were quick and the food came out relatively fast considering we ordered so many things. The sesame noodles and scallion pancake were pretty good I'd probably give it a 7.5/10. My fave was definitely the chicken wontons and fried pork bun (not pictured cause we devoured it). So good! Very hipster, very cool. Definitely "cool kids come here" energy but not in an annoying way. Service is always on point. Everyone's been polite and chill even when we're asking for new plates after like every other dish so flavors don't mix. Don't do one entrée per person. Get a mix of small and large plates and share. Way better experience. Food is solid across the board, but the Fly's Head didn't hit for me. It was mostly chives and not much pork. The Lobster Rice Noodles though...so good. Super soft, rich, almost like gnocchi. Menu changes a lot so this might not even be there when you go, but either way you'll be good. read more

Walked in at 9pm on a Saturday and while it was busy inside, we were sat promptly and our dishes came out pretty quickly - but we didn't feel rushed at all. We enjoyed all three dishes - the Marinated Cucumber tasted refreshing on its own but even more addicting with the chili crisp oil on the table. My favorite was the Chicken Wontons - they were tossed in this savory, buttery, glossy sauce that resembled the flavor of Cheesecake Factory's Pasta da Vinci. The cutest little place on the corner for a twist on traditional Taiwanese food (think fusion). Had a reservation for 2 at 6:00, showed up a little early and we were sat immediately. Had the perfect night catching up with a friend over drinks and delicious food. Lychee martini was definitely more on the martini side than the sweet side (but that's what I prefer). Think of this place more as a Taiwanese fusion restaurant, and you'll enjoy it a lot more. It's definitely not authentic, but they do a nice job with creative twists. I really liked the wu yu zi mian--the cured mullet roe (aka Taiwanese caviar) noodles--which reminded me of the Asian-influenced Italian spots I love in Taiwan. Their o-a jian isn't authentic at all, but if you think of it more like a jian bing, it works. The pea shoots were delicious and probably the most authentic dish of the night. And I also liked their fried eggplants a lot but I'm just simply a huge eggplant fan in general. This place has been on my list for a while and we were in the area on a Saturday night so we thought, why not try our luck?! So we tried walking-in around 8pm and they told us maybe for an hour so we definitely got really lucky since they're so popular. We got a drink nearby so it wasn't too bad of a wait at all! My first experience here was several years ago where I was not impressed and questioned its relevance. However, I just went back at the end of 2025 and the experience was amazing. High quality food. Deserving of a Michelin I dare to say. The crab fried rice is a banger. The cocktails are top notch. The restaurant is warm and cozy but definitely too loud. The food is also overpriced and the portions are small. Honestly if you want Chinese or Taiwanese food, you're better off going to Chinatown. Just take the J-train on Lorimer or Hewes Street. This was the best food that I've had in a long time from a restaurant for brunch! Everything was exceptionally delicious and prepared in ways that I've never had before. From start to finish there were no complaints and we even had dessert! I can't tell you how rarely that happens and I can't stop thinking about the food! The wait staff checked on us appropriately, made suggestions on food and even let me know what was in those delicious marinated cucumbers so I can try to make them at home.
