Doesn't play well with others. I'm doing a deep retrofit on my old Victorian in downtown Berkeley. Net Zero, real three coat plaster walls, the whole nine yards. This is a nice job in a nice part of town. And Gabe certainly seemed smiley and competent. But the minute I told him I needed cast iron not ABS because this is, after all, a three story, he started yelling about how he was the plumber and he knew his business. Well, no one doubts he's a plumber but if he really knew his trade, he would've noticed the third floor, wouldn't he? I mean, it's not like those windows way up there are invisible or anything. And yelling at me to, in effect, ignore code? What's up with that? He yelled at me about how I should be thanking him for doing his job. He yelled at me about the inspector being late as if that was my fault. He even called me up at night and yelled at me that a three story requires cast iron (this would be the day after I insisted he stop installing the ABS. Weird, huh? I think the guy just likes to yell). And lets not forget the day he rolled up all smiley and laughing and insulted every one else on the job. He didn't even know what he was talking about either. He hadn't witnessed his helper spitting rocks at people by spinning his (unregistered) truck wheels on the gravel pile. But that didn't stop Gabe: "What a bunch of crybabies" he called out in earshot of everyone. "What a bunch of pussies" he said to me when I called him on it. "This is what a job site is like" he reassured me. Quite. And then there's the sticky fingers issue. He called me up while I was eating my lunch a few blocks away. He had packed up and was ready to leave and demanded a check that instant. I told him to leave the invoice and I'd pay him when I got back, He yelled at me some more and I hung up on him. He left his invoice and and took some unopened boxes of supplies that someone else is invoicing me for. When I asked him what he took, he neither denied it nor explained why. I only know he took sealed boxes of plumbing supplies that are apparently worth enough money that he stopped yelling at me about his invoice. 4.29.13 My General has since asked him about it and Gabe says he took the supplies because he had decided he wouldn't get paid. Since he has always been paid in full, on time, and without incident this excuse sounds silly to me. Job sites don't have to be like this and my other contractors don't yell at me or each other. He's just another hot-head grasping for an excuse to act like a jerk. read more

I am a plumbing contractor myself. I have known Gabe for more than 15 years and we often help each other out on large jobs. He is smart, organized, experienced and utterly competent. I recommend him to clients who I cannot get to and continue to work with him. The review from Alison H is quite skewed. For the record, the supplies in question, were delivered to the actual contractor who had purchased them. That contractor has also ceased to work for her and she did short him on his final payment. Her claim about him not knowing the code regarding cast iron on three story structures is a fabrication. read more

I've had a KWC kitchen faucet for more than ten years and while a great appliance, it had an infuriating habit of loosening over time. 3 plumbers have tightened the faucet only to have it loosen up within weeks. When I asked another plumber to fix the appliance he told me KWC's hardware was so badly designed he refused to work on them - and sent me to Gabe. Gabe came in and did the job. KWC seems to have new hardware to address the flaws and two months later Gabe's work is holding up - tight as a drum. I'm so grateful. Excellent work. read more

I am a general contractor, worked for a plumbing contractor years ago for a few years. I do my own plumbing. I met Gabe throudh a friend who owns a lot of property. I was looking for a plumber to recommend to someone whose work I couldn't get to at the time. The friend suggested Gabe. It all went well and over the years I have referred him many times. I have had him come to two of my jobs to scope the waste line with his TV camera. I too am puzzled my the comments by the woman with the 3rd story remodel..doesn't sound like Gabe to me either.
