It has been several years since I've called on Michael, primarily because our last issues over the intervening years were emergencies and I was under the impression he didn't do emergency work. I recently got my water bill and it was significantly higher than it should have been, given how careful I am w/ my water use. I know EB MUD will take care of problems outside the house, but will expect you to fix problems inside the house via a private plumber. This was not an emergency, so I texted Michael, who responded quickly. We scheduled an appointment for 3:00 this afternoon, after my lunch w/ Lori and Terry. I had a hunch it was connected w/ the dishwasher, but he did his detective work, checked the meter, checked the toilets and found that the flapper in the front toilet needed to be replaced. He did that and recommended that I call EB MUD and tell them what he had done and that the toilet had been running and said that they would adjust the bill based on that. By the time I called they were already closed, so I will call them Monday. Michael and I talked about restaurants. I told him I had had lunch at Heads and Tails and he was excited about that, as he's looking for good barbecue. He had fond memories of Gaumenkitzel when it was in that space and knew that Anja was opening another, smaller restaurant in a couple of weeks on upper University Avenue. Before moving into my condo a few months back, I never had to worry about any repairs. I had a fabulous building manager at my last apartment, and she would fix things within hours of making a phone call. When I discovered that my garbage disposer wasn't working, I went to Home Depot and proudly installed one myself. Incorrectly :( In addition, the sinks in both bathrooms weren't draining so well, and one of the toilets sounded weird. It was time to call a plumber. I called him recently for some advice on how to remove a rusted-on washer hose. He happens to live in my 'hood, and just dropped by, lent me a tool, bought and brought over a special fitting for it. How cool is that? He coulda done it for $60. Rumor has it he was once a pastry chef. Now he, among many things, installs toilets. Talk about the alpha and the omega. Despite my earlier experience I suggested that my Sister-in-law contact Michael to fix a leaky pipe and a clogged drain in her kitchen sink. His recent Yelp reviews suggested that he is indeed still working. Despite two phone call and a text message Michael never got back to her. This is almost an exact repeat of my experience with him in late 2017. Fortunately she contacted another plumber as well. The second plumber was able to take care of both problems within 24 hours. I suspect that Michael may be a victim of his own success. Too many requests for service to handle. If you are lucky enough to get him he may provide great "on-site" service. Just don't be disappointed if he fails to respond. Even though I would like to give him more that one star, I can't do it when he is unable or unwilling to respond to a request for service. read more

Michael is the BEST! I had a problem with very slow drains and some backup. I called Michael last Friday afternoon and he called back ASAP to schedule me. When he came out yesterday, he took the time to pull up THREE manhole covers in an attempt to find the outflow pipe, then walked around my house. Turns out that when they built the housing tract back in '69, they did NOT include outflow pipes, simply capped them off, which makes simply snaking impossible. Michael called an associate, Louis, on the spot to confer about the problem. He told me Louis could handle it and even left a piece of equipment for him to use. Michael's fee? NADA, ZIP, ZERO, ZILCH - and he spent an hour here to explain what I needed done. Louis' guy showed up, crawled under the house, and was able to pinpoint the problem. I'm getting it fixed today! I had a drain issue. Mike fixed it. I was happy. I had a drain issue in my bathtub and was pretty desperate to get it remedied. Michael called me the day after I called him and I'm glad I waited, because I had another service come the day I had made my run of calls based on listings reviewed on Yelp. Let me first say, Michael the Plumber is worth the wait. He's local and has only himself as staff to solve patient customers' problems. My first plumbing serviceman came the day before, all the way up from Fremont or Sunnyvale, I think. He was a courteous gentleman, willing to put on slip on socks because of the carpet, and gave me the low-down on what the problem might be and how he could fix it. Two suggestions were made, both of which added up to either $275 to $350 including some citrus coating that at the time seemed pretty unnecessary; It's the drain of the house, with excrement going down it. No need to glorify that smell with some lemony goodness. I told the plumber I will take the quote and call if I find he was the fairest price. The day after, Michael called. Michael told me his availability, and it worked within my schedule. He came promptly, in fact I was late and he came early, so we made new plans, closer to when I could make it now that I was running late and he adjusted. I showed up to my place, Michael showed up minutes later, he knocked on the door and greeted me with a fist bump and a smile. He took his shoes off at the door, came into the bathroom and made a quick assessment of the issue and said, "...should be an easy fix." Michael was very eager to show me how he does things, and suggested to me some tips in how I can solve basic plumbing issues on my own without the need for a plumber. I was eager to take in all that he was sharing and made sure he knew I was very appreciative. As we made our way around the property Michael pointed out things I should be aware of like where drain pipes are and proper water flow through them. I felt like I could handle a lot more with what he told me by myself. If you are in need of a plumber, please don't hesitate to call Michael. Michael Your Plumber is the only plumber you should use. One side of my kitchen sink had a leaky pipe underneath and my landlord asked me to get 3 estimates. The other plumbing companies I called quoted me $125 and $220. Michael said it would be only $60!! AND, he ended up changing the pieces on both sides of the double sink to prevent future leaks. He didn't charge extra. In fact, he made it very clear that people who charge extra are a pet peeve of his. He was on time, friendly, talkative, knew what he was doing, and even gave my dog a treat. A week later, I got a hand-written postcard in the mail from him, thanking me for using his service! Wow! The service he provided was excellent, and even more important, I would recommend him for the more than 50% difference in his price compared to other plumbers. read more
