Thumbs Up made my dreams come true! We've wanted a second bathroom (or at least a second toilet) for years and finally decided to make it happen. The plan was to move our washer/dryer into the kitchen, remove the old standard water heater and install an on-demand water heater outside and then install a toilet and (hopefully) a tiny sink. I got bids from three plumbers. Unlike anything else I've ever done, all three bids came back with almost the exact same price. All three had great reviews on Yelp/Google, so the decision came down to communication style. Sal from Thumbs Up was the person I felt most comfortable with and wasn't worried about working out details if something went wrong (which didn't happen!). When I was ready to start, Sal was too. He gave me some advice about sink and toilet choice and then let his team get to work. Edgar did a great job converting the existing laundry box to sink plumbing, installing a new laundry box and the toilet. Gabe was on the water heater...removing the old, rerouting the gas and installing the new one. I never even noticed the change, just had lovely hot water! Once the bathroom was ready, Gabe came back and did a great job installing the toilet and got the new tiny sink to work (even finding a matching drain cover that worked when the one I bought was wrong). I had Thumbs Up come by as my toilet has been leaking from its base when being flushed. It's causing water to pool and leak into my crawl space. I cannot recommend Thumbs Up unless you're comfortable being ripped off for convenience. Getting an appointment was very simple, I called on a Friday. While I didn't get an answer, I was texted back quickly and we arranged an appointment for Monday. After explaining the issue, the plumber was absolutely certain that the issue was the wax ring for the toilet. I'm personally skeptical of this as we had already replaced the wax ring ourselves just to have the issue persist. I was quoted an astronomical $375 for a wax ring replacement! If you've done this before yourself, you'll know this is a less than 30 minute job. If you haven't, watch a tutorial on Youtube and form your own opinion. When I said "no thanks", the plumber became combative and said that I would need to pay for a service call since they diagnosed the issue for me. I mentioned that I hadn't agreed to pay for a service call and was just looking for an estimate (I've had other plumbers come since who asked for nothing for the estimate). After saying this, he argued back stating that they had even told me it was a wax ring issue over the phone, so why did I waste their time coming out? I never spoke to them over the phone and was put straight to voicemail when I called (we coordinated the appointment via text), so this exchanged was fabricated. I refused to pay anything. The plumber stormed out leaving the top off the toilet tank and the water still off for me to turn back on. Either I had a bad plumber in an otherwise good group of plumbers or the majority of reviewers don't know much about plumbing but had a positive experience based on how simple and quick it is to get work done with Thumbs Up. read more
