My experience with Carson Drasher, Fair Oaks, and Neptune Society was the worst I've had with anyone in any arena. We went back and forth so many times about the online obituary, and it still isn't right. I asked for the correct link to the site so that I could share it with family and friends, and I still have not received a response from her. Her "bedside manner," for lack of a better term, leaves much to be desired. I didn't want to write this review before I had my loved one's remains in my possession, for fear of retaliation, ashes belonging to someone other than my mother, heck, I'm not even sure at this point if the ashes are in fact hers... I guess the upside is I purchased the service years ago for considerably less than what it would cost now, but then again, maybe this is a case of "you get what you pay for". An additional upside is that I will not have to deal with her again; whoever is tasked with my death, they might have to. The Neptune Society as a whole was friendly, professional, and sympathetic when my mother died, and I contacted them. There was a bit of confusion at the beginning. I received several calls after I had already made arrangements with one of the representatives. But after that, it seemed OK. I picked up my mother's remains today. Thankfully, I was able to do that without meeting with Carson. I don't plan to recommend the Neptune Society to anyone; it's disappointing and regrettable that this was the service I chose for my mother and me. read more

They were extremely hard to get ahold of. I left an email days ago prior to my father passing and never had them reach back out. Keep in mind we prepaid for everything. Then I called to have the body moved and it was the weekend and answering service had no information for me at all. Then today is Monday I called twice to speak to someone. Finally get someone on the line and I said my father is there and he passed. She said... and? NO CONDOLENCES! she was like what do u need? What the actual eff. Neptune used to be an affordable choice when compared to traditional funeral homes. Now the prices are about the same. It took a few days for someone to call me back with prices. I don't know why she thought it was appropriate to share with me that her neighbors didn't like her "conservative" political yard signs. It did make my choice to go elsewhere easy though. read more

Savannah was just the person we needed to help us. We showed up at her office very sleep deprived. She took care of all of the details making sure she had all of the information correct. She was thoughtful and professional. When we had a second death in the family a few months later we called upon her again and this time were able to take care of all of the arrangements over the phone And by email. Both times we were especially impressed by the strong and gracious young women who came to collect our loved ones. They were very gentle and considerate throughout that process, taking special care to explain things and make sure the family's emotional needs for closure were addressed. She was just the right person for us--appropriately concerned and sympathetic while not coming across as overly maudlin. My husband and I contacted the Neptune Society in 2022 to make arrangements for our inevitable transition(s). They were professional, thorough and went through a variety of options with us as well as payment plans. They were also efficient. I think we made the arrangements in a little over an hour. In addition, the prices were very reasonable, especially in comparison to a traditional embalming/funeral package. I never thought I would have occasion to use them in less than two years, but, unfortunately, that's what happened. My husband tragically passed due to complications from a fall. I called them immediately and received exactly the kind of sensitive and compassionate treatment I expected. Carson Drasher, our Arrangement Counselor, assisted us with patience and the kind of professional calm that soothed me and my daughter immediately. She answered all our questions, even though I was so distraught I asked them more than once. I have had occasion to contact her several times since then and she continues to be the steadfast pro I can rely on. I really cannot recommend Carson and her organization enough. read more

I remember many years ago going with my Mom to get her Neptune Society paperwork to insure her cremation for when her time came. She told me it cost her two hundred dollars. Back then I thought it was outrageous do you may want to plan now so that your family isn't stuck with a whopping cost years from now. My Mom passed away last month and I feel the need to write this review solely about the two people that came and took her away. I don't remember the gentleman's name but the lady's name is Brandi. Both were so pleasant and understanding as they arrived at 3:30 AM mind you. The nice gentleman was dressed in a suit - so respectful I thought. They were so careful and gentle with our mother and my sweet little nieces and sister had a hard time letting go before they took her. It was so nice that they were very patient and understanding. I just want to make sure that they know how much my family appreciates their caring and understanding. read more

They will respond to this review with "Sorry for your loss " they will do nothing about it besides a simple response. Yes Neptune Society is a business for profit and that's great. I hope they profit forever. Debbie is lacking the empathy and human touch with emotional connection that is required in her position to fulfill the needs a grieving family while offering the assistance of serving while collecting payment for an outcome. She was extremely unpleasant to work with. Her only attachment to serving was monetary gain. Although it was my father's request to be buried at sea with his military past and friends, the Neptune Society offers a fantastic service in general that provides a wonderful experience of ceremonial burial. Debbie accepted zero responsibility for the missing American Flag to be presented in his honor during the ceremony. Our entire experience was perceived as Rude and all about collecting that $ check. As I will always recommend this as a wonderful route working with Neptune Society, my recommendation is to request someone other than Debbie and I pray that you will get proper treatment with a different representative. read more

What a stressful time, losing a parent makes every decision so difficult. From the beginning I worked with Ty, they were polite and had a lot of questions. When we finally decided on what we wanted and signed all of the documents I felt like ok now I can start to process what's happening here. My first issue is that I asked Ty, if they'd inform us of when the cremation would take place, like day and time essentially, he said yes. I didn't receive information. Just a call that her remains were ready to be picked up. Secondly we ordered a necklace with some of moms remains for my cousin, Ty wrote the correct necklace on the paperwork, but what we received was incorrect. When I called to inform them of the mistake TY let me know that that's happened before and he apologized for not double checking. The whole situation had me very upset. How could I trust that it was even my moms remains in the necklace. Such a huge mishandling of the situation. Especially since he knew it could potentially happen and didn't do his due diligence to protect us. Ty offered to order the correct necklace but honestly I don't want anything to do with neptune society so I declined. I hope a manager sees this and they put into practice a standard of checking the orders BEDORE HANDING THEM TO THE FAMILIES! read more

Worst service EVER!!! I will never recommend Neptune Society after the way they treated my family when my father passed away! Look at their Facebook reviews!! Terrible!! They misrepresented information, challenged us to sue them over it "you can try to sue us but people have tried and you won't win." Savannah was rude and snarky to my mother. Go anywhere else!! Everywhere else was so nice and helpful. Terrible experience for my family and my Veteran father. Basically held my deceased father hostage while being awful to his grieving family. After reading a lot of other reviews of NSNC below, it's pretty clear that people that reached out to them before they were needed had a much better experience. In the middle of the grief from the loss of a loved one is not a good time to be taking care of the business side of this process. My father died in 2018 and we met with Neptune Society of Northern California many months before. They were professional, both with us and in dealing with my father before that. I would gladly use them again if I needed to but I would certainly try to take care of as many decisions before we needed them. read more

On a day when you just want a little kindness and warmth... picking up my mother's remains...absolutely terrible customer service and disorganization. I don't know the receptionist name, but she was very rude and made us feel like we were an imposition because she couldn't find our appointment. I had talked with Debbie just a few days prior to make the appointment, but she neglected to put it in the books. Although Debbie is the one I spoke to on the phone, she didn't even introduce herself. She just remained in the back office. It all seemed very scatterbrained and cold. After notifying the Neptune Society of my husbands death, I was connected with Debbie Nolte, who helped me through all the details of what to do in order to receive all the benefits of our membership in the Neptune Society. Her patience with my inability to use my computer and I-Phone was very comforting as she coached me through the necessary processes. Trash and unorganized with information. My husband called and stated that his mother was actively dying. They were quick to be supportive, offer a payment plan, and send documents to sign. When my MIL passed mere days later after the call, neptunes came and took her body. 10 minutes after taking the body a box showed up in the mail for ashes and photos. We were confused by this because we did not request or know about this stupid box. We then a got a call that we needed to pay it in full before they'd start working on cremation. This was not what was agreed upon or discussed on the phone. The person on the phone stated that they do not do "payment plans". We literally have a voicemail from one of their employees discussing the "payment plan". What??? My MIL was then taken to "Simple Traditions" here in Sacramento (highly recommend!). Neptune's society then charged my husbands credit card another "payment". As per there office, we never cancelled with them (the body no longer being there and them incorrectly offering payment plans wasn't "cancel" enough). They then refused to offer a refund until we shipped back the stupid ugly box that we never even asked for or needed. Box was shipped back and refund finally given. The disorganization and back peddling of promised services was literal salt in a fresh wound that was hours old. Highly do NOT recommend Neptunes to anyone, ever. Way to make a really bad day for my husband even worse. read more

Me having no idea where or how to get started Debbie was great in helping me out. I drove into town only 1 day to hopefully take care of any leftover business, and Debbie fit me into her schedule so graciously. Records from the 70's are still on paper. Nothing is digitized. Both of my parents purchased pre-planned cremation services in the 1970's. Neptune Society found my father's record but conveniently lost my mother's record. Be sure to keep your own copy in a safe place. We had to buy a new cremation to the tune of $3000. My father purchased a cremation plan for himself and my mother in 2009. When he died in 2016, the Neptune Society of Northern California handled the arrangements perfectly. It was comforting to have the help while dealing with all the other issues that arise after the death of a loved one. When my mother died three weeks ago, the initial condolence call from Neptune was very kind. But from that point my interaction with the organization went sharply downhill. They informed me in a follow-up call that I was not in a position to make arrangements for my mother, and they identified some unknown woman as my mother's rightful legal representative. I told them this was obviously a clerical error and sent them my durable power of attorney document and my mother's advance healthcare directive. Just to be absolutely certain there was no further confusion, I also sent my parents' living trust, naming me as the successor trustee. Six days after my mother's death, I was clearing out her apartment when I got a call from the Neptune Society AGAIN challenging my status. They said my father was the rightful trustee. Pause. I collected my composure. "You mean the guy you cremated four years ago?" I couldn't believe it. They also challenged my family's plan to have my mother's ashes interred next to my father at the VA cemetery in Dixon. The representative said my mother's final wish was to have her ashes scattered at sea. That was news to me! They said they would check with "legal." A couple of hours later, six days after my mother's passing, it became shockingly clear what had happened. The Neptune Society sent me a packet of documents to sign and they had confused my mother with another woman with a similar name. I was stunned. Different middle name, different date of birth, never married, etc. How could this happen? Didn't anyone think to double check when the next of kin is insisting a mistake has been made? Apparently not. When the Neptune Society finally acknowledged the error, they sent revised documents that misspelled my mother's maiden name on multiple documents. When I pointed this out, they suggested I cross out and correct the errors! By then our confidence in the Neptune Society had been so completely eroded that my wife demanded to see my mother's body at the crematory just to see how far the screwups might have gone. "Your mother's here," my wife texted. The Neptune Society tried to shift blame to the cremation policy provider and even my mother's hospice nurse for the misidentification. Their failure to own the mistake and explain how this could happen led me to file a complaint with the California Cemetery and Funeral Bureau. I'm not a litigious person. I just want answers. An apology would be nice, too. read more

If i could give no stars I would. I can't believe these people handle customers who have just experienced a death in their lives with such little respect or tact. My parents didn't want to burden their children with having to arrange cremation and the details that go along with it, that they both signed up for the Neptune service. When my father passed at the hospital, everything was great, Neptune did take care of the cremation, death certificates, etc. but when it came time to picking up his cremains and everything after, the experience was the worst. First off, I paid a fee over the phone for an extra death certificate copy, which was $11.78 (not the exact amount, just as an example) To my surprise, when I checked my bank account, they charged my account with $1178.00- apparently not entering the decimal place. They told me that it would take over a week to refund!! So... they were able to take my money so quick, and yet a refund in a "week or so is the best we could do". The worst part was even though the lady admitted the mistake, she never apologized! Never once did she say she was sorry!! Then we tried to arrange scattering ashes off a boat in the Bay Area and called about 5-6 times within a three week period and couldn't get a hold of anyone to give me any answers. I even drove down to the office in Sacramento and they told me that the person that handled it wasn't in and they would call me. I finally called a different Neptune chapter in the Bay Area and they took care of everything that they could, since things had to go through this particular chapter. The Chapter in Sacramento is the absolute worst ever. I fear for when my mother passes and I hope I will not have to deal with the same people, and if I do, I hope they learn how to apologize when they do something wrong, and maybe some tips on customer service and how to be respectful to a family that just experienced a loss!! read more

I honestly don't know what to expect, but for over a week now I have been attempting to get an update on my mother who sadly passed 6 weeks ago. I have left voicemails, sent emails and spoken with people at other locations, however none have been able to give me any updates. I have paid in full for services but have not been able to get any updates or even a simple email response and I have no idea how to proceed. I know things are slower due to COVID but it only takes a few seconds to answer a simple email. Other locations do answer the phone, so I am wondering if something has happened to the Sacramento location as it appears they aren't even answering their phones any longer. read more

The Neptune Society/Trident Society will take 2/3 of your money. Here's a quick telling of my story so you can see how it happens: My dad died recently while I held his hand, and within 30 minutes of his death I was asked who should come pick up his body. I told the nurse I thought he had a Neptune Society policy but that I didn't know the details. We decided to call the on-call mortuary in the city to pick up his body. The next day I was told by the mortuary that I should have called Neptune, but not to worry because his policy could be transferred -- it was standard procedure for all mortuaries. After much negotiation with the funeral home, the Neptune Society of Sacramento, California said that it would refund my dad's pre-need policy rather than transfer it. Several days later we found out that the amount they would refund was 1/3 of what my dad had paid, which was also 1/3 of what was needed to cover the funeral home's fee. That's because Neptune/Trident does it differently than reputable, local funeral homes that have a stake in their local community and live or die by their reputation and service. Neptune/Trident takes the first 2/3 of your payment as fees and tranfers the remaining to a trust which can be transferred. It's all in the contract, but how many of the people making the decision within moments of their loved ones passing know the fine print in a contract signed by someone else? I didn't and now my family will pay for a simple mistake. Don't let this happen to your loved ones. If you buy a pre-need contract do it from a local funeral home who will tranfer your trust to any funeral home in the country on demand. read more

Awful. My grandfather passed away in July. I called to notify them of his passing since they needed to pick him up. They hung up on me and I had to call them a total of three times to make sure they got all the information. They didn't call my grandmother until 5 days after his passing. She was worried my grandfathers body was stuck somewhere. Once she made an appointment with them they couldn't give a set cremation date and said "we'll have to wait and see". Mind you, I work at a funeral home and know how things work. We finally got his remains back a few weeks later. They didn't communicate well and were rude or just plain dumb whenever a question was asked. I'm going to try to get my grandmother to use other services elsewhere. read more

Our family experienced a relatively quick decline in health with a family member. We knew we would need assistant with last minute planning. We made a call to the Neptune Society /Sacramento. A representative came to the hospital within 1.5 hours to meet with ya. A full explanation of options was provided-no pressure- including pricing, next steps, ongoing support, etc. Our loved one passed with the hour and we had peace knowing we would be cared for. Communications started immediately. Our family member was cared for respectfully. All necessary and promised actions were provided as promised A beautiful memory box was delivered to us within the week, with votive candle and memory tablet, thank you cards and cremains box. They are beautifully packaged and truly lovely Follow up has been so appreciated including transfer Special thanks to Bob (sales), Jacquie (follow up care) and John /customer care. Every step went smoothly and in a timely manner. It was also very convenient that everything was able to be done through e-mail and phone so that I didn't have to take more time off of work. I wish one could give stars in negative values. I do not have one positive thing to say about this bunch of inept thieves. From day one when we first met with their rep and he didn't know answers to our questions nor did he offer to find out. If he couldn't read from their brochure he was useless. But my friend paid him in advance for their services in her death. 1) when we called and told them she had passed and we needed them to come pick up her body we got no answer. We left a message. Mind you this was a week day and midday at that. During working hours. After using the internet and 411 we finally got some poor thing in Canada who was nothing more that an exchange taking messages. After over 2 hours on the phone we finally spoke with a supervisor who had no record of us even though we have him account numbers etc. Over 8 hours later they sent someone in what appeared to be their personal vehicle to fetch the body. They asked the requisite questions and gave us receipt etc. The following morning they again had no record of picking her up nor where the body may be should they have indeed picked her up as we claimed they had the night before. 3 days later they found her. They couldn't proceed with cremation because they had no paper work giving them permission to proceed. This had all been notarized and given to them in triplicate months before. After 2 more instances of them losing the body, and us resending them duplicates of the same paperwork 3 more times we got her ashes 30 days exactly from the day of death. The countless phone calls gone unanswered from their non existent staff, their laid back attitude, their all but saying outright that they had our money so go away is inexcusable. They did give us a free urn from their showroom of over priced products. Small consolation. We could have handled the length of time had there been any communication from them with an explanation and an apology. But instead we were told they'd never heard of us. I cannot speak for all branches of this organization. Maybe they are better. This one however should be shut down and all involved with it be arrested and put away for life! read more

Terrible. Neptune Society has really gone downhill. My grandparent prepaid for their services many years ago and the service their children and grandchildren have received is absolute horrifying. Last Sat. June, a memorial service was planned for my grandmother. My mother received a call a day and half before that the yacht was having electrical issues and that they needed to move it to Sunday and that the boat they were renting would be comparable. They actually called and stated the wrong date and wrong party name cause a huge upheaval. Then it was confirmed for Sunday at 11, no one for warned the party that their was a huge gay parade in SF and to anticipate waiting in traffic 45-60 mins, no one provided an alternative route or anything helpful. Unfortunately, we (my brother and I were 15 mins late) and they wouldn't hold the boat for us claiming they had to be back by 1pm. I understand the world doesn't revolve around me, but this wasn't a sightseeing op. it was a memorial for someone I deeply loved. Worse yet, the boat came back 20 mins early at 12:40pm: they could have waited for us. Cruel and heartless. Neptune society, you are simply awful! Anyone who has prepaid and is still with us should demand their money back. read more
