AKA: Santa Cruz County Probation Office - Downtown branch. Nothing says blue collar spousal abuse like a good old fashioned neighborhood card room. Seriously, a "card room"? Who even has these anymore? "Indian" card rooms on the outskirts of Fremont, sure, but the Ocean View Card Room on Pacific?... well, quite simply a low-brow piece of Americana for us all to treasure. I haven't yet had the pleasure of channeling Kenny Rogers at the tables here, but intend to shortly. I did venture in the other night, however, and found the perceived risk of being stabbed and/or robbed surprising low! If fact, I would guess the non-felon to felon ratio of patrons to be as low as 3-1. Honestly, though, it actually seemed pretty accessible for non-hardcore poker sharks, if even mildly friendly. Four or five large tables and 6 or 8 guys sitting at each table. Apparently they will stay open as late as people still have money to lose (ie 5 AM!). No fancy boy operation here. Jest cards, boy. No bar or alcohol either. You wanna be sober when you gamble away the child support payment. If you've been seeking a refuge where you can elbow up to a guy named "Jimmy the Fish" while second hand smoking his filterless Winston wides, well, you're home now. Ante up, son.

I came to play on Super Bowl Sunday and they were closed. Will come back to try them whenever I'm near the beach.

I enjoyed playing here at the Saturday noon game with the local crew. Everyone was friendly, focused and enjoyed playing. I'll be back!

was mistaken by saying that the rake is $5 with no flop, that would be crazy!

My mother won a free entree at the Artichoke Joe's booth at the Chinese New Year street fair today,…read moreso we decided to get dinner here. We did not partake in the table games. There is a free well-maintained parking lot on the side and back of the casino, and it was easy to find a parking spot. I also saw a free shuttle bus taking people to/from the San Bruno BART station. There is only one restaurant which serves both American food (helmed by an American chef) and Chinese food (helmed by a Chinese chef). There is a direct entrance to the restaurant on San Mateo Ave, although you can walk through the casino from the main entrance to the back right area labeled "Bar". You order & pay at the counter and find a table and they will bring out the food to you on a cart when it is ready. There were plenty of tables on a Sunday evening ~6pm. All items already have tax included. They also have 4 different types of cakes (chocolate, carrot, tres leches, etc) and other desserts you can purchase. You get your own free water by the bar area of the restaurant. No need to bus your own table; there is a busboy who occasionally walks around cleaning up the plates and wiping down tables. Within the context of everyday no-frills cuisine, I would rate the food a 3.5/5. NY steak $28 - there was a nice grilled flavor and it was cooked perfectly medium but the meat itself was a little tough/chewy (which is why I prefer other cuts, but I can't be too picky here). It came with decently flavored mashed potatoes & gravy and a good-sized portion of sauteed vegetables. Chicken Parmesan $19. Generous portion. Came with fettuccine with tomato / marinara sauce. The sauce was a little too sour for my liking, and the chicken itself was a little dry. Shrimp with lobster sauce $22. Sauce doesn't actually have lobster (it's more of a thick Chinese black bean sauce with bits of minced pork, sauteed onions, and bell peppers). It's served over white rice. It was surprisingly hearty. I liked how there was enough sauce to coat each spoonful of rice. I personally would not return because I don't have a reason to gamble here and I don't like getting carded when entering (which I guess you could consider a compliment), but if you did spend the day here at the tables, the restaurant isn't a bad choice to have lunch/dinner.

Felt like I might mugged inside the casino, but that's most casinos tbh…read more.. Parking lot was nice tbough.
