ive been going to Nessy's for years, 15 years. I always get the burger. Those days are done. My last two viisits were dry over cooked and flavorless sorry to say. I even asked that they not overlook the burger on my last stop yesterday but it can out so over cooked and dry even there sauce couldn't help. How can you take fresh meat and do that. The experience of standing in a long line at a crowded and unique establishment was quite exciting, but the food itself was a big disappointment. To me it was like eating a cinder block of beef. I have lived in the area for over 30 years and remember when this place was a Pizza Hut. It has changed hands often. I had a quick lunch there today 5/3/18. One of the worst meals ever served to me. The "senior lunch" was half a turkey sandwich with dry wheat bread and turkey with dry edges. The lettuce was iceberg. The dinner salad was awful iceberg lettuce with 2 slices of greenish/red tomatoes, a handful of tasteless iceberg lettuce, and runny ranch dressing. All for $ 8.45. Yech. The burger didn't have much flavor, there's only one burger option for $7.95 (and it was not an $8 burger to me - the patty is big but if it has little flavor that's not a plus)! The fries are crappy, mushy crinkle fries and no fountain drinks. I would take In n Out with fresh-cut fries for less than half the cost any day! Or, if I'm gonna spend $14 I'll go to a sit down restaurant and, for that cost of a tip, have someone bring it to me -- not sit at a disintegrating picnic table in a parking lot! Be prepared to fight flies, bees, and Nessys themselves. Flies that want to eat your burger, bees that want your soda, Nessy's that wants your $. I've been a customer for years and its always been a value burger joint. Ever since they were on Triple D and Yelp, their famous Messy Nessy portions have finally been matched by a hike in price. At $8 per burger and $4 for fries, you're rounding out to $15 for one meal. To me, this is gourmet burger territory, and Nessy was always about value as it was off the beaten path and their burgers were COOKED to order. Granted, you waited a while but something about searing hot burgers off the grill struck an accord with my gluttony. Flash forward a few years and they're now a chain assembly, cooking burgers ahead of time and reheating them as people order (sad but true). Its still a good burger, but not as its former glory. My best analogy is driving off the lot with a brand new car. Flash forward a few years with a major detail and it looks new, but not quite the new car you drove off the lot with so many miles ago. And that's the lesson of time being taught over and over again. Leave nostalgia to the past, and move on. My advice is if you're passing through its worth a stop by, but not quite a trip out and yonder. Before once, but not anymore. If you must stop by, fries are crinkle cut frozen that can be had similar at Del Taco for 1/2 the price, and drink obviously buy elsewhere. You're still paying $8 for a burger but be sure to get the veggies and sauce on the side. read more

Excellent flat top cooking style. Burgers have a nice crunchy exterior and a super moist inside. Ridge cut fries are crunchy and delicious! Fresh ingredients make this the best roadside stop along this highway. Definitely worth the stop. read more

Not sure what all the fuss is about. Not a fan of the seasoning they use on their patty or the meat. It's an odd taste. Still, a fun place to visit, as it is iconic for the area. Service is good, but you order from a window and pick it up once it's ready. The people who work there are pleasant. My kids like it because the burgers are huge. I'm giving this place a 4, even though my initial thought was a 3. Let's call it a 3.5 and be done with it. Wish they served fountain drinks instead of canned soda. read more

I have always loved Nessy Burgers, unfortunately it stays in the past tense. My most recent visit left me disappointed, the burger was overworked and possibly not 100% beef. What made Nessy's great were the handmade meat patties, they almost fell apart as you ate them, so delicious and juicy, worth any wait. Nessy's Burgers are good. They are big, but the heavy amount of lettuce does exaggerate it some. The quality and taste of the meat, lettuce, and tomatoes is quite good. Did not try the fries as they were an additional $3.60 alone without a soda, yikes. The seating is all outside and at a scarcity because of their popularity in the area. Tried Nessys for the first time recently. It wasn't bad! The burgers are huge! And run about $6 bucks a burger with cheese and all the fixin's! Fries are extra as are drinks. Didn't see any "combo deals". For 2 nessy burgers, 1 order of fries(large enough for 2 people to share) and 2 cokes(in a can ) I paid about $23. Meat was tender and moist. BUT filled with onion in the meat plus onion on the burger. I like onions but that was too much. I don't know if you can request onion-less meat?? If you can I may try it again. They have a small condiments station to add pickles, jalapeño's, ketchup, mustard and dressing. All the tables are outdoors in what appears to be a "parking lot". It gets busy so finding a place to sit and eat was tricky. Ended up sharing a picnic table with 2 nice guys! The flies there are relentless and that part grossed me out. Fly control people!!! Will I try it again? Ehh maybe but I definitely will not be making a separate trip there just for the burgers as I did this time. A tip someone who frequently goes there told me - stop at the Mobil gas station and buy a large soda there. You can get a large soda with ice for .89 vs coke in a can for $1.25 at Nessys! My first and last visit was August 25,2012. We had heard only great things about this place, what a disappointment when we had to spend the entire time swatting bees and flies away. This is quite the awesome little place... So I was off to do a wedding with some friends in Pauma Valley when I had to stop and get some gas. We were freakin starving cause none of us had eaten breakfast. My first impression when I saw Nessy Burgers was that it was just any other typical "shack-food-joint" you always see on the other side of the road... Well something about it was different cause there was a bunch of people. I sent my friends to get me food while I filled up. Originally I had told my friend to get me nachos also (she was getting some as well) but I guess the girl that took the order didn't hear her say two... anyhow... I ended up with a Nessy burger and I ate a few of her nachos... "Man, everything was just so GOOD!" I dont know if it was just cause I was starving or what but it just hit the right spot... I was recently out this way and decided to stop in for a burger for lunch. Judging by the line, I figured I was in for a treat. Their menu is super simple, only about 10 things on it so it isn't hard to make a decision. I opted for the turkey burger and thought it was pretty decent. Considering how long the line was when we got there, I really didn't have to wait that long for my food. First, the food was good, burger was juicy and big, BUT the only option for eating is the picnic tables which I am normally fine with but there were swarms of bees all around. Luckily I only had water but the other people I was with had sodas. This proved to be a constant battle of keeping literally over 20 bees out of their drinks. Not sure if there is even anything they could do about the swarms, but I might think twice about coming back because of them. I guess if I was planning on taking it home with me then I might reconsider. read more
