I've left a 5 star review of coal bunker before but I have to leave another one! I was in Fallbrook last Friday so I just had to stop in and eat at Coal Bunker. The food was amazing as usual. Stephen was my server and he was one of the best servers I've ever had, both at CB and at other restaurants. He just went above and beyond, was really attentive, anticipated our drink refills, and he was super nice and had a very friendly vibe. I have passed by Coal Bunker for weeks. I finally got to try it today! It did not disappoint. The restaurant is beautiful. It has rail train vibes inside. It's got rustic charm. I love the attention to detail. It's on Main Street in Fallbrook. The service is friendly. The waitresses are so nice and attentive, they give great recommendations. The food is delicious! I've never had stuffed avocado before, it was fresh and tasty. The avocado was perfect and the seasoning in the stuffing is elevated. My husband loved his chili cheeseburger. The service was excellent and so was the food! We had the pretzel bites first. The bread was delicious.... And then a burger with regular mac and cheese. Both very good. The burger was cooked perfectly. Their ranch is 10/10 and the star of the show that has no photo because we ate it way too fast... the bread budding. We were seated very quickly as it was not crowded at all. The lemonade was delicious as it is made in house. The Mac and cheese with chicken was something new I tried and really enjoyed it! Unfortunately it did make my bridesmaid sick as she ordered the same thing as me. Another one of my bridesmaids ordered salmon that she talked about the rest of our trip to Cali. She LOVED the salmon she said it was the best salmon she has had in a very very long time. The ambiance is cool with an old miner railroad town feel. First had CB at a baseball tournament at FB Little League. I went back 3 different times for the stuffed avocado. So good! Came in the restaurant tonight. Really cool setting with lots of comfortable antique tables and booths. Just had the Tri tip bowl, holy cow!! I'm coming back asap for another giant it. Steak was tender, seasoning was perfect and the cauliflower mushroom hash hit the spot. Now it's time to get down on the bread pudding! Came back here again when I visited my daughter. I know it's one of her favorites and it's pretty much one of mine when I go to Fallbrook. Cute place with good vibes. Our server took our order right away. Friendly guy. We ordered for the table pretzel bites. Omg those were really tasty melt in your mouth bites of heaven! It came with nacho cheese sauce I ordered the wedge salad with pesto chicken. I love wedge salads, and this was probably one of my favorites. This place is really cute. They have some nice job. The appetizers were good between the table we had the pretzels, nachos and potato skins. I think my favorite was the skins. I had the creamy Tuscan chicken. It was delicious really flavorful. The burger with habanero was eaten and said to be really spicy. The house salad is my only negative. It co sister of ice berg lettuce, the halves of cherry or grape tomatoes and 3-4 slivers of red onion. Other than that everything was great. read more

Ate here after my son had an away game at the local high school in Fallbrook. Cute place! Looks small from the outside but surprisingly big inside. They have a side kitchen at Fallbrook youth baseball fields. That's where I had the chicken stuffed avocado and when I say it was gone in 10 seconds flat, it was gone quick. The flavors with the ranch tasted amazing when I got there I got the last one or I would've bought about four more. If you're ever in the area or at Fallbrook youth baseball fields, you must try it. A group of six of us were there today for lunch. The eating area was roomy, with not too many tables/chairs, so it was not crowded. There is a good mix of booths, tables, and high-top tables along with a bar. The beer selection is very extensive, with beers from all over, many of which I have not heard of. I had the buffalo chicken mac & cheese. It was very good. The noodles were not overdone and very tasty. I liked the chicken, but the spicy sauce overpowered the cheese. The flavor of the mac & cheese can easily stand by itself. Also, the serving size was perfect for me, I was satiated when I left. There are several other mac & cheese dishes, I look forward to returning to try the others. Mac & cheese is not just for kids anymore. read more

Service was very good but we will be removing the Coal Bunker from our Airbnb/VRBO Guidebook. We didn't love the food the first time we tried it, not long after opening. Wanting to support local, we tried it again last night. Again, great service, beet salad was good but I couldn't eat much of the Mac with Buffalo chicken and the pastrami sandwich was a big disappointment. We really do appreciate that the emphasis is on homemade and healthy ingredients (pastrami for one). The Mac states 4 cheeses but underneath the inedible buffalo chicken, barely a cheese taste and watery. We are not happy about removing a local place from our guidebook but we also care about our guests and don't wish to send them to a not great place. Glad you are supported by so many locals. Upon arrival, both my husband and I felt this place had a good vibe and we both had never been before. The servers were super friendly, attentive and kind. Here's where it starts to go sideways...we ordered burgers and two appetizers. We ordered the beet salad (since we love beet salads) and that thing was so small, it could be considered child-size. For the money, not worth it. We ordered the queso beef dip and that was tasty but I was too scarred by the beet salad to enjoy my queso. The queso was not hot enough and with so few tortilla chips for two people? Ok, enough of the drama. The burgers came. I ordered my burger pattie medium. It tasted burnt. It was just ok. Not something I would say would bring me back for another try. Aside from the service, this place was just meh. We're glad we tried it. May or may not want to come back. We'll see. Big and airy building with kind of a completely non decorated theme except for the entrance lobby that appears to have no function. The booths were comfy, and the remaining tables may have been obtained at a yard sale. I liked it, making a point of keeping it casual. The surprise was the food. Many menu selections, it was difficult for me to choose. Mostly comfort type American dishes and burgers. I had the Shepard Pie and it was like a generous home cooked meal. It was an excellent portion and artfully cooked, I savored every bite. The stuffed avocados are a must. We tried every variation. My favorite was the pulled pork, but really, all are delicious. All the food is made completely from scratch and is very wholesome. It might be reflected in the price, but the price is definitely worth it. The environment and vibe are very nice. We did not finish our salad. I had a portabella mushroom sandwich. It was sliced and kept coming off the bun. I have had these before but the mushroom was never sliced and in a gravy. It looks like a tiny place from the street but it's huge and the food is pretty good.

We had two dogs with us so we sat at one of the outdoor tables, which are basically long tables with picnic benches for seats. Our server informed us they were busy that evening and apologized for the wait, but it was not that bad. I had a side of mac & cheese and roasted veggies. This is our favorite restaurant in Fallbrook. I always get the exact same thing when I go, The Bunker Burger. It is amazing! The burger is always cooked to perfection and seasoned well, loaded with cheese, bacon and caramelized onions. Sometimes I can't finish it, but it's still good leftover, which never happens with a burger. The bun is nice and soft and grilled & the bunker sauce is pretty good too, but I feel like the burger is great without it as well. They make all their sauces on site. The Italian vinaigrette is great on the side salad, but their homemade mac and cheese is great as well. It can't comment on many other options on their menu because I've only ever eaten the burger there. And we never take our son who is super picky because they don't have French fries or any food that he would eat on their menu. They do have some beers on tap and a pretty good selection of canned beers/drinks. I tried a rum and coke there once and their sake based spirits are a bit weird for my taste. Anyhow, service is always decent as it's a small space and you can usually catch someone's attention if you need anything. If you're lucky enough to be able to snag a booth, do it! They have two super cute and private booths with comfy cushions and there are several other seating options, a few high tops and some regular height tables as well as some bar seating if you'd like to sit up at the counter. My bf and i absolutely inhaled every dish we got !!! For all my dawg lovers they have some PREMIUM meats !!!! And same for my mac and cheese lovers ! Perfect about of cheese , the noodle was soft but not mushy honestly id rate it a lot higher if I had the chance too , but truly 100/10 :) and customer service was amazing as well. As you enter into the restaurant on ground level, you enter into acquaint room with antique furniture and a sign that says service upstairs. When you step upstairs you immediately entering into another time zone. Simply decorated with antique chairs and boots dated back in Time. It's a very simple, but friendly place. The waiter that served today was a very friendly young man. He was very informative when we asked him about certain dishes on the menu. I He checked in on us periodically to see if we needed anything else. This was our first time of going to this restaurant, but we went here for several reasons. First of all, it was a restaurant in our community so we wanted to support our community here in Fallbrook.
