Most of the reviews I see here are for formal wear and there is quite the selection in the back room. However, this boutique also has some fun, unique everyday clothing, accessories and jewelry. Looking for some comfortable, yet funky (think flowered or lace trimmed) jeans, the Nest Boutique is the place. Looking for a one-of-a-kind top you won't see on everyone in town, come to the Nest. Unique, locally made jewelry - again the Nest. The shop owner is exceeding nice and helpful. She will do all she can to help you find. just the right piece. This boutique was only a walking distance from where I am so I thought I checked it out. Since this was the first bridal dress place I've been to, I did not really have much hope in finding THE dress since I already had the exact style I wanted. I have been shopping at Nest since I moved to the Monterey area several years ago. I really enjoy that it is a smaller boutique with unique clothes and lots of personal attention. The only thing I don't like is that there are so many choices that I often end up taking home many more items than I should. So I have to steel myself to stick to what I came in for! They have a great selection of jewelry, scarves, coats, tops and pants. I can't recommend Phyllis and her wonderful store enough. I went to buy a dress for a wedding. I have a large stomach and always try to cover it. She had a turquoise dress with a little cover jacket but size 6. It was way too tight but Phyllis (owner) said it looked great. I would not get it. But I liked the style and manufacturer. She pulled out a catalogue and we browsed thru pictures and I saw one I liked. She ordered me at 8 and I forgot to ask the price. Gave her my credit card info and I checked my card statement after a few days and could not believe I just ordered a $500 dress. My mistake for not asking. 3 weeks later the dress arrives. I go try it on and it is again too tight. But again am told it looks great. They will not refund my money but only do store credit. On top of that she charged me $20.00 to defer the shipping costs. I returned the dress. Be careful when shopping at the Nest because you better like what you buy, do not order anything because you too could be stuck with a store credit!!! read more

I came to Nest in an absolute bridal emergency, and Phyllis not only saved me, but left me feeling grateful that things worked out the way they did. After months of working with a flaky seamstress to have a wedding dress made, I was left with a dress that didn't fit properly, had crooked seams and even had a crooked neckline. I found Nest and, more specifically, Phyllis, exactly 11 days before the wedding. Family was flying in from other countries, and I was a mess. Phyllis is calm, comforting and knows exactly what she's doing. When you are a frazzled bride with no dress and less than 2 weeks to go, she is not just your best friend--she is your beautiful fairy godmother sent from heaven to save you and turn you into Cinderalla. Together we found an incredible dress. It was in my price range, and thanks to her connections with manufacturer, we were able to get the dress the next day. She knew just what I needed for my figure, she knew where to go to get it, she knew how to get it fast, and she knew how to make it affordable. I cannot recommend Nest and Phyllis enough. No, No, Don't shop here! The owner, P, seemed to be a little shady on a purchase return. I had picked out a New Years gown that I later decided looked a bit Matronly on me once I got home. I paid with a check. After my check cleared my bank, (approx. 4 days) I decided to return it, unworn, (only to try on). Not a mark or rip on the dress, same condition I bought it in. Although this was not a Super high end purchase, to me, it was significant. Let me tell you I had a HARD time returning it and to receive a refund! I had asked about return policy before purchasing and was assured there would be no problem. Well I was bullied into taking a credit/exchange, which I was not having it! Wow, just wow. If you buy something here, make sure you are gonna keep it! Suppose small shop owners may have cash flow issues at times, but not my problem!!!!!!! read more

I heard about Nest at a Bridal Fair, and took my mother and mother-in-law in to find dresses for my June wedding. Phyllis was amazing, friendly, and knowledgeable. She knew what would fit their bodies and made them feel beautiful. Because my mothers are from So Cal and Texas, Phyllis was accommodating and said she would ship the dresses to their homes when they arrived in 3 months. We left in high spirits, and I even returned a few weeks later to purchase a cute white dress to wear to my rehearsal dinner. Each time I visited, Phyllis was very helpful and gave a generous military discount. Why 4 starts instead of 5? Well, the mothers each paid $40 extra in order to have their expensive dresses custom made to their measurements. We rationalized this extra fee would pay off greatly when they didn't need alterations, and they felt excited that their dresses would fit perfectly straight out of the box. But when they received their dresses, they were both devastated to find that they didn't fit AT ALL. My mother's was much too large and unflattering, which required extensive alterations by a professional bridal seamstress who knew the ins and outs of working with chiffon, runching, and boning. My mother-in-law's was not only far too large, but also 11" longer than what she had ordered! Because the dress was a one piece with a scalloped lace hem, the seamstress couldn't simply shorten it but instead had to modify the dress from the top down and try to hide the funky edges with the accompanying jacket. The alterations for both women were expensive and added stress because their "perfect" dresses had to be disassembled and reassembled weeks before the wedding. Fortunately in the end, they both looked stunning and felt comfortable on the wedding day. I called Phyllis to explain this dilemma, feeling confident that she would try to remedy the situation. Unfortunately she was out of town, and although her employee promised she would call me back, I never heard from her. To this day, we don't know if it was Phyllis that measured the women improperly or the dress company, Jade, that manufactured the dresses poorly and/or ignored the custom measurements. The bottom line is that yes, I would visit Nest again because we had a lovely experience and enjoyed her full selection of dresses. I would just not recommend to pay extra for custom measurements. read more

I absolutely LOVE this store! Phyillis is Awesome!! I had a really big dilemma about 2 weeks before my daughter's big event. She still had not picked out her dress for her big day! I went to about 10 stores that said, it was to late to order anything for her and had the worst customer service skills. We were very stressed out. I came across THE NEST online, and decided I would give them a try. I called phyllis and asked her if she could check on this dress my daughter wanted, and without any hesitation she checked and called me back and told me that they had the size and I would be able to get it in less than a week. She made our day! I finally could sleep knowing my daughter was going to get the dress she wanted. Phyllis called us right when it came in. When we picked up the dress it was absolutely Beautiful! My daughter Loved it!! She has the BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS ever! I recommend this store for any of your clothing needs. Phyllis is the worst business person I have ever met. I ordered a lace jacket and a yard of lace in May, it is now September and still no lace. The jacket arrived with holes and runs...and made out of 100% Nylon. When I asked for a refund, Phyllis refused. She then went MIA and has returned no phone calls and has made absolutely no attempts to get ahold of me. I am out almost 700 dollars (lace & jacket). Brides-to-be-BEWARE!!! Pacific Grove, CA is a small town and Phyllis apparently is known for her shady ways- had I known this beforehand- I wouldn't have touched Nest with a 10 foot poll. Phyllis has ruined my wedding dress and left me to scramble trying to find replacement lace. In total my mother and I spent almost $2000.00 on various pieces in her shop (before this whole lace incident). One would think, being a small town, Phyllis would have bent over backwards to accommodate us. Instead she stole our money and could care less. The day after Christmas, I decided I was finally willing to try on wedding dresses. Something I had put off for a few months. We called The Nest as I had passed by there recently and noticed their beautiful dresses in the window. The owner was there and she was only open for another hour, yet she told us to come by!! This was a great experience. In just under an hour, she had me in 4 different dresses, all were gorgeous and I will have a hard time deciding. This shop is a great find and I really enjoyed working with the owner (her name escapes me right now). The shop was filled with great dresses and accessories. They did not have a huge bridal selection, maybe 30 dresses, but within that 30, there were several that I loved. I also really like the bridal dress designer that this store works with. They are willing to customize anything about your wedding dress and the prices are reasonable. read more

Phyllis, the owner was more than accomadating during my first meeting. She offered me assurance that she could find me a dress for my son's wedding. She assured me that she knew what she was doing and that she has fitted groom 's mothers for over 15 years. She spent 2-3 hours with me as we poured over catalogues trying to decide what would best suit my frame. I put my trust in this women to find me a dress to fit my almost 6' frame, wide shoulders, and large breasts. I trusted that she knew what she was doing. SHE DID NOT! I was very specific about the color, burgandy. She sold me on the color Bordeoux and told me it was the same as burgundy. FYI, it was not. Not even close. I looked like a giant grape. She constantly assured me that it would be okay and that I would look beautiful for my son. The dress, shoes, and matching bag came to almost $800.00. She was so excited to close the deal and charged me the full amount of the dress, shoes, and purse before I had even tried it on. She assured me that it would fit and if I needed any alterations, she would send me to Kim' s in downtown Pacific Grove; no problem! She never told me that it would cost me an additional $150.00 for the alterations! The shoes came to, $100. she called me when they came in. I went to the store to try them on and they didn't fit. I even ordered a size 11 which is 1 full size larger than what I wear. They didnt fit. They were so uncomfortable and the color was died a different shade than the dress. Phyllis kept trying to convince me how comfortable they were and what a perfect match to the dress, WHICH THEY WEREN'T! One week before the wedding, the dress came in. I had to call the shop to find out if the dress came in. I went down to the store to try the dress on. Phyllis had no time for me even though I had an appointment. I was so overwhelmed and dismayed when I tried the dress on. It did not fit. I cried. I stood their for several minutes in tears and no PHYLLIS! I was so disgusted by the way I was treated after spending so much money. PHYLLIS ignored me and could not get me out of her shop fast enough; after all, she sold me on a dream that she couldn't fulfill! THIS WOMEN DOES NOT KNOW WHAT SHE IS DOING.
