I love this place. I found it by accident several years ago and have been coming ever since. There's no cover charge and the drink prices are fair. It's high-energy and fun, as they play retro, 80's & 90's music. The DJ does a great job of mixing it up and keeping the dance floor bumping. It's a medium-sized space that's a mix between a nightclub and bar. Not too big, not too small. The crowd is typically students and under 30's. I really dig the exposed brick walls and there's one big circle bar in the middle. It's a cool setup and decor The bar staff and owner are fun and welcoming, they're really great. I've been to this bar a few times now, and it's always a blast. I am not one for clubbing, but Nesta is an exception; I love their music selection and the vibe of the people there. I never felt awkward or any hostility from any of the people there. It's a great place to dance and maybe have a few drinks. This being said, getting in seems to depend on the discretion of the bouncer. I've always been fine with large groups, but once I was told that the place was full. I asked a girl who just came out Nesta for a smoke whether or not it was full and she said that it was nowhere near full. Fun place to dance if you can get past their bouncer. read more

I've been to this place twice now. Once for my bday a few years back and once very recently on a Saturday night. We arrived in a large group before midnight and were let in right away, no line, no cover, no BS. At around 12:30 though the place was so crowded that we were sweating! Blast that AC please! They play varied music that's fun to dance to and sing along to. *Criticisms: The shots are watered down. The bartender with the ponytail started fighting with a guest and throwing shit at each other... but guess what, those sharp sticks you were throwing hit me and my sis AND IT HURT!! So grow the hell up! It was too loud and crowded to complain so we left shortly after. Also, what's with the girls dancing on the bar? I came from out of town and was really excited to try Nesta. The drink prices are good. I ordered one drink and it was delicious, thanks to the bar tender Cat. Went out for a cigarette after my first drink, and as I was outside I watched as two girls and a guy tried to enter Nesta. The bouncer turned them away by lying to them about the bar being packed. We told these people that the bar was in fact no where near packed, and we tried to get them in with us. The bouncer said no they couldn't go in. The bouncer told us that they were turned away because it's packed. We called him out on it and he said, "yeah but you're allowed in because you are girls." And we responded with "they are girls (and one gay guy)" he said no. They weren't allowed in. Why? Because that guy was gay? This put a super bad taste in my mouth, so I told the bouncer I wouldn't be going back inside since I don't like the asshole treatment he was giving these strangers. I took my money across the street to Facul T Club. I won't be recommending Nesta to any of my friends that visit Montreal. read more

They must be new or just not doing very well. My girlfriend and I were walking to our hotel from dinner and were approached by a woman who all but begged us to go to Nesta. We didn;t have much else to do and were looking for somewhere to get a drink anyway so we went inside. We sat down at the bar, which had about 3 other couples at it and were immediately scolded by the bartender who informed us that we were required to sit at the other end of the bar as they were trying to make the bar look more full and attract customers. Where to start? Literally a gem in the city, can't believe we've missed this place for so long. Hidden at the top of McKibbins, Nesta has an upstairs lounge, a terrace, and a main bar room. Menu is simple and the drinks are awesome! Decor is funky and very modern, cozy and friendly. There are outdoor couches on the terrace for a more mellow vibe, and the bar downstairs is more of the party spot. The staff is SUPER friendly, and the music be banging! We were there last night, and I walked in to James Brown. James Brown music that is, rest in peace. Throughout the night, the DJ (Rubens and cie ) knew how to read the crowd and keep the party going, with an ongoing groovy mix ranging from Michael Jackson, Usher (from the 90s and early 2000s, the real Usher), Blink182, Macklemore, Greenday, The Killers, Eminem, Black Eyed Peas, Sean Paul, Fatman Scoop, Talib Kweli, Run DMC (like, actually), Ice Cube, Biggie, and the list never ends. You know how when it gets busy, the staff starts snobbing you, and you make that awkward one way eye contact for like an hour before the bartender noticed you, and then she makes your drinks like the day after? Well that's not Nesta. Even our napkin coasters kept getting replaced on the regular (Catherine ). On a previous visit, the bartender at the upstairs lounge even came out to see us at our table to check if we were okay (Julie ). Drinks were original, innovative and simplistic, served in mason jars. Nothing over the top complicated, with liquors that you can actually pronounce, and very fairly priced (approx 10$ for a mason jar, wuddup). The crowd is a mosaic of out-of-town hipsters, regular clubbers (and not the creepy douchebag type with too much gel and shades on), down to earth guys and gals just wanting to have fun, average 25+. Pretty full house, but not packed like sardines..perfect! It had been a while since I've encountered a sick place like that, with good blends of music from all styles. Great place!!! Very few people know about this place as it's just on top of McKibbins and most people think the entrance is for the irish pub! Safe to say it's a hidden gem! It has a mixture of everything here; from the music that goes from Biggie Smalls to Michael Jackson to Macklemore and The lumineers!! The people here vary from the trendy club goers to the relaxing hipsters to the Montrealers looking for an escape!! I strongly recommend going!! read more

I went to this bar for the first time with my girl friend, jusy to try. We ordered drinks and after that we danced. Great place to hang out if you are in montreal, downtown, on st. Laurent street. Good for big groups and they also take reservations, but, make sure you carry your IDs with you. Owner was super friendy and nice. We were a group of 12 and had a bottle service reservation, super friendly staff helped us out the whole night and made sure we were ok. The bottle prices were average on the Main but cheaper than some of the more expensive places (*cough* Muzique *cough*) The vibe was simply amazing and unique only to Nesta. The bouncer had an absolute power trip on multiple occasions, he continued to freak out and assert his dominance in situations that were unnecessary. A wonderful bar however, if the dude with the fedora continues to be the bouncer he will scare away a lot of good customers by dealing with his insecurities by "controlling" incoming guests. read more

Hell hole. The bouncer cares more about building a crowd than the club. He's rude and disrespectful even if you have guest list. McGill student were very excited about this club but this will definitely be our last time going. This place has so much potential to become something so much better. Its a great location and the bar itself is quite nice and very unique, however, they really need to invest in renovating the place. There are holes in the walls, bad paint jobs, ripped couches.. The terrace bad is using lawn chairs & tables, which are not very comfortable or appealing to the eye. The bouncer is most definitely not the friendliest out there and their clientele is extremely young. They also definitely need to change up that cocktail menu of theirs, its all essentially juice with low grade alchohol. Nesta you have so much potential, but for your prices and what you are providing your clients with, maybe putting more love into your business would be good for you! read more
