Chef Jerome is a piece of SE Georgia history and makes some fantastic food. From the moment we pulled up to the restaurant, Chef Jerome came out and greeted us with hugs and assurances that he was going to take good care of us. The building is eclectic, quirky, rustic, and several more adjectives - but never off-putting. It is comfortable.... When you walk in, you really get a feel for the history of this place - particularly from the tens of thousands of photos that decorate the walls (virtually all of them) throughout the restaurant. There are pictures of locals, travelers and even several celebrities that have feasted at the Diner. Ben Afflect's picture is featured all over the restaurant as he frequents this place whenever he is in town (he even has his own autographed chair hanging on the wall). We were seated in the VIP room and presented with a menu with several good southern dishes from deviled crab, oysters, scallops and of course shrimp to ribs, porkchops, steaks and burgers. They are known for their Wheelchair Platter - which serves 2, 3, or 4 people. This is a collection of things that the Chef has selected for you including fried shrimp, fish, hushpuppies, pork chops, Mac 'n cheese, and other treats. Comes with slaw and potato salad (both fantastic), We ordered the platter for 2 - and it did not disappoint. We also got the sweetpotato logs with a cinnamon dipping sauce (wow!). First - those were some of the best hushpuppies I've ever eaten. Crispy on the outside but fluffy with bits of corn on the inside. yum. Everything else was cooked to perfection. Once we had eaten, Chef Jerome came out and took some pictures (for the wall of course) and had us promising (truthfully) to return soon. This place is a little out of the way. It's down a dirt road and looks a little rustic - but you will be very pleasantly surprised once you go in and let Chef Jerome take care of you. A Definite recommendation! Don't miss this treasure!

I found this please with raving reviews while researching at home to surprise my fiancé with (he used to be a chef). I made a reservation about a week in advance. We got there, checked in and were seated at a 2 top table. I work at a restaurant so I try to be understanding. After we were sat, the host comes over to us and tells us we unfortunately have to move to a different table but it's, "just as nice." Confused, I got up and asked my fiancé to as well. She moved us to another 2 top, THE EXACT TABLE as the one we were originally sat at but now in between two other customers on each side. I don't mind sitting next to customers, but it was the audacity that a high end restaurant sat me and then asked me to move to the exact same table across the room for no apparent reason. It felt so unwelcomed and rude. I'm in this industry and very understanding however, I would never ask my customers to move once they were sat. If there was a mistake in arrangements, that's on the host.. not the customer. I left.

We sat on the enclosed and conditioned patio which was a great space to watch the thunderstorm from. Emmalyn took the best care of us! We let her choose all of the dishes we needed to try and everything was exceptionally well prepared and presented. We enjoyed our meal tapas style and shared everything. The surfboard, the gnocchi, the scallops on the half shell, the mussels and more were all equally wonderful. The food is like the best combination of Chubby Fish from downtown Charleston and Jackrabbit Filly in Park Circle. That is high praise. This is not to be missed if you are in the Summerville area and worth going out of the way for a lovely take on great seafood. Thoroughly enjoyed every moment and every bite.

The restaurant is right on the water in the middle of a marina, so fishing boats come in and they clean the fish not far from the restaurant's edge. We started off with a half pound shrimp that was hot and well seasoned. The tartar sauce was very spicy with horseradish. I tried the special Herb Salad. It was tasty but a little pricey at 18.63. It would have been tasty with some pecans or walnuts. For entrees we tried the shrimp and grits. Very tasty with red eye gravy on top. Was missing the sausage, but still very good. Shrimp was well seasoned. The scallop dinner was delicious. Came with Alfredo sauce, hush puppies and a side salad. Prices are fair for all local seafood, which is what you expect on Tybee. And you can taste the difference in the local seafood. Very fresh and tasty. My one negative here was food came out too fast. We were still enjoying salads, then the shrimp appetizer came out. We were still eating our shrimp app, and the entrees came out. Felt a little rushed. The server was ready to bring the check, but we asked for dessert first. They already ran out of one dessert and just had the special, which was cheesecake. I normally don't complain about food coming out too fast, but when you are rushing through your courses, it feels like they need your table quickly. Food was really good, so it was just easy enough to ask for to go boxes with what we could not finish. Go early so there is no wait. People were waiting as we were leaving.

We stopped here for lunch on a Tuesday, place wasn't too busy and the service was attentive and both drink and food came out quick. We had hush puppies and peel & eat shrimp to start. The hush puppies weren't much on their own (as they tend to be) but dipped in honey butter they were damn good and kind of addictive. The peel and eat shrimp were cooked perfectly, sweet and succulent. After peeling don't forget to devein if needed... about half our order had some mud vein remaining (which is fine for peel and eat, just remove it!). Then my wife and I split the lunch special, a double fried flounder sandwich with cheese and tartar sauce... a take on McDs double fillet-o-fish. It was amazing! The fresh flounder was cooked perfectly and was soft and juicy inside its crispy fried crust. My wife especially appreciated the toasted bun! The coleslaw that was the lunch special side wasn't great... under seasoned imo. I put a little malt vinegar, salt & pepper on it and it was fine. To finish it off we split a piece of key lime pie. This is the first time either of us had key lime pie, so we don't have much context to compare this to, but our experience with this key lime pie was amazing. The crust was one of the best graham crusts I've had. It was buttery and cooked to the point it had a caramel taste to it. The filling had a cheesecake taste and texture to it with a distinct citrus lime tang. The whipped topping was creamy and cool, a perfect complement to the custard-like filling. A wonderful dessert! Now, the only bad part of this review is of the bathrooms. As much as I like a dive bar, back country vibe... the bathrooms are gross. My wife was visibly disgusted when she returned to the table. Later in our trip she used the restroom at a Savannah gas station and joked it was the Taj Mahal compared to the restroom at Bubba Gumbo's. So, be warned... just hold it if you can! Bathrooms 1-Star... and that's just because they have one and it has running water LOL

The service was inconsistent from the start. The hostess seemed distracted and lacked the basic customer service skills I'd expect as the first impression. It wasn't very busy (a Wednesday evening), but our first waitress was slow and seemed scatterbrained. A second waitress then tried to deliver drinks we never ordered before a third waitress eventually took over and stayed with our table. The fried green tomatoes were good, but not worth the price in my opinion. The cheese bread dip was definitely unique, though not something I'd order again. I ordered the filet mignon, and while it was decent, it wasn't memorable enough to justify the cost. Someone in our party ordered the shrimp and grits and was given a coated cardboard takeout container, which felt odd considering the price point of the restaurant. The waterfront scenery is beautiful and was honestly the highlight of the evening. Inside, however, the restaurant was fairly plain with wooden beams, basic wooden furniture, and dim lighting. Overall, the experience simply didn't match the reputation or the prices. With so many other great seafood restaurants in the area, I don't see myself returning.
