We sat on the enclosed and conditioned patio which was a great space to watch the thunderstorm from. Emmalyn took the best care of us! We let her choose all of the dishes we needed to try and everything was exceptionally well prepared and presented. We enjoyed our meal tapas style and shared everything. The surfboard, the gnocchi, the scallops on the half shell, the mussels and more were all equally wonderful. The food is like the best combination of Chubby Fish from downtown Charleston and Jackrabbit Filly in Park Circle. That is high praise. It will definitely win over the heart and stomach of your partner My first tip is to reserve a table on the patio. It is enclosed and air conditioned and the tables are spaced out much more than on the inside. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly and on point bringing their offerings. We started what would become our favorite dish of the night Scallops on the half shell. At first, you may balk at the price but believe me worth every penny. They were $26 at the time of this review but they are topped with two kinds of caviar. It was one of those dishes that after one bite you lean back and savor the flavors. The casino butter, sake and chili garlic will make your taste buds dance. I tried the chili garlic shrimp and gnocchi, and it was so good my wife threatened to steal it. Pillowy soft gnocchi in a rich, decadent sauce with hints of heat was outstanding. It is listed as a small plate, but I found the portion size quite filling. My wife had the oyster roll which was more like a po' boy not a sushi roll. We have had other oyster rolls, and they sometimes disappoint but not this one. Some restaurants just put a few oysters on the top of the bun and that's it, but this roll had oysters all throughout. It came with house made pickles and a single fried oyster on the side as a warmup. I highly recommend it. For dessert we shared a key lime pie semifreddo which was so pretty I almost felt bad for eating it. It was topped with a graham cracker crumble and both raspberry and lime curds. The texture reminding me of ice cream and was not overly tart with a nice hint of key lime. The torched flowers of meringue were really a great touch. Although we were a walk-in on a busy Saturday night, the hostess still managed to accommodate us quickly. We've been a few times and have always had a great time. We've been for drinks during the sweet tea festival and sat at the bar with apps and small plates. It was great to watch all the prep at the raw bar and kitchen. Then we went back for dinner and stuffed ourselves w sushi and raw bar entrees. Everything was fresh and has a great presentation. Great place tucked away in Summerville. We got there in time to take advantage of 1/2 price Oysters and wine. Sue our waitress was delightful and knew the menu inside and out. She was great with our one person with a nut allergy and another with a shrimp allergy. Making sure nothing was contaminated to hurt them. The oysters were delicious, we had the surf board which had so many things on it I won't remember them all! Cream Corn, Potato tartine, ahi-tuna, shrimp toast, crab, whitefish salad and some other things. Scallops on the half shell, a peach and burrata salad and roasted lamb cheeks. Completely Over-Rated.... Listen the one thing you can expect from my reviews is complete 100% transparency and honesty. We had a bunch of apps including raw oysters and a smattering 3-4 small plates all were personally I found all to be underwhelming with the exception of one, just disappointing. They made us (Party of 3 with reservations) not want to order main dishes....and we didn't. The dozen raw oysters weren't shucked properly for the $42 price tag. Please make sure you sever the lower abductor Mr Oyster Shucker...I don't need to reschuck your oysters and could have done better with my oyster knife in my kitchen on those raw guys. Only gem for my taste buds was the small plate of short rib gnocchi which unfortunately has nothing to do with any type of seafood. This restaurant has been on my list for a long while and I have heard good things but definitely under-delivered on the food. Charred Octopus which was tender was more of a black eyed pea/bean dish with an octopus garnish, 1 of our anticipated apps was tuna tartare...and was extremely salty, totally over dressed with soy, and how many dishes do you need to garnish with zoodles? Give me a break. Many dishes were entirely too salty and meager with headlining ingredients with the exception of the aforementioned zoodles. If you like zoodles on everything by all means give them a shot. But for me please give the zoodles a rest. They are incredibly annoying to try and eat or fit into a lettuce wrap or on a crispy wonton. The service was very good and is the only thing that saved the meal and made it relatively tolerable. Hate that they had literally 14 people in the entire restaurant but sat everyone on top of one another. It's not a pub it's a restaurant. Thanks for the great service but personally not worth revisiting. I left tremendously disappointed in the food. Sorry just being completely honest here. Things I liked about Bexley's : Easy parking . You can park on the street or in the free parking garage that's just a few steps away. It's a nice location that overlooks Hutchison Square. You can easily walk to the wine bar on the square for before dinner cocktails or afterwards for a night cap. Nice, modern ambiance . Here's what I didn't like : We sat at the food bar and observed that none of the cooks or food workers wear gloves or hair nets. We watched these guys touch every piece of food , touch phones and then go back to touching food . I saw one dude lick a spoon and then place it under the counter. One guy had shoulder length hair and was leaning over plates of food . No hair net and hair not pulled back . It was all very unhygienic. Food was just okay. We ordered 6 different dishes and they all tasted like they had the same spices . Also the gnocchi has sugar in it ! It was too sweet . That's blasphemous. Side note : they also don't serve liquor . Wine only . My partner tried to order some liquor to wash his mouth out of some of the food flavors only to learn the restaurant doesn't have a liquor license . Came here for my mom's surprise bday dinner. Service was OK-- was a bit difficult to keep the server's attention on the patio & the acoustics were horrible -- had wished I had booked a table inside after only a few minutes trying to talk. We have been going here since 2023 and have been overly impressed with each visit. We recently scored a reservation for Valentines Day and were even more impressed with the offerings plus the incredible service. Summerville SCORED HUGE when Bexley decided to land in the historic area. This morning we went to their first ever pop-up for lunch coinciding with the farmer's market and wow, they continue to impress with their food. We did two chicken skewers, two shrimp skewers, and two orders of their dumplings. WOW! Absolutely a flavor bomb. This place has been on our radar for a while, and it should be on yours! Lovely restaurant in the downtown Summerville area with a cozy feel and super fresh seafood. We didn't make a reservation and waited about 20 minutes for a table for 2 on a Friday night. The restaurant is pretty small, so make a reservation if you can! The service was great and our server was knowledgeable about the wine menu and pairings as well. We ordered the scallops on the half shell, yellowfin tuna crudo, Brussels sprouts, and the Fish of the Day, which was triggerfish. I think the scallops were our favorite for the night, they were cooked to perfection and had incredible flavor! The tuna crudo was super fresh and had lots of yummy toppings. The FOD was so good too, and I ended up spooning the sauce straight into my mouth. And don't sleep on the Brussels sprouts either, they were nice and crispy and had a nice crunch paired with all the seafood. We also ordered a bottle of chenin blanc which was served at a great temperature and balanced out with the food amazingly. Our server was attentive and filled our glasses as we were running low. FOOD: fantastic dishes offered with daily specials. I had the Bolognese Gnocchi and it was simply delicious. This dish accompanied by a glass of Montepulciano di Abruzzo made an evening meal a culinary experience. SERVICE: superb...our server knew EVERYTHING about the menu and the people behind its creation. I complemented her on knowing the details of her restaurant. AMBIANCE: we chose to dine at the raw bar counter. Beginning with the place mats, the utensils, the glass and dinnerware one could quickly see that this was not an ordinary raw bar. A definite 5 out of 5 stars! The service was top notch and the food was absolutely incredible. We made a reservation for six the day before and they were able to accommodate us. They have an outdoor patio that is covered for summer but we chose to sit inside. (Note: you do have to put a card on file to book the reservation, which I totally get). We tried as a group a little of everything and when I tell you everything was delicious, I mean it! Unique dishes that I really haven't found anywhere else in Charleston. The menu rotates often which means that you can go and try new things every time you go. The poke bowl was my favorite but everything was so flavorful and delicious that I would go back asap. We moved to the Bexley surfboard, it changes daily and I can't wait to try this again. I may order it for dinner so I don't have to share. Every item on the board was beyond our expectations but two stood out. The trout spread is the best I've ever had. My spouse isn't a fan of fish spreads and he loved it! That's high praise. The beef skewers were "melt in your mouth, lick the plate clean" delicious. We finished with the mussels. They too were outstanding. Finally made it here! The restaurant is small and quaint. The service was great! And the food phenomenal! So many great things on the menu to choose from! We decided on the Bexleys bread for starters... so delicious! The sorghum butter topped with sea salt was absolutely delicious. I have been wanting to try the charred octopus and so glad I did. Mine didn't quite look like pictures that others have posted. However, between the tender octopus and the butter beans it was a phenomenal dish. My husband had the shrimp and grits. They were so creamy with a little bit of a smoky flavor so good! We split a side of Brussel sprouts . Oh my!!!! The flavors and crispiness made these one of the best brussels sprout dishes I have ever had. Then we finished off our meal with the chocolate pudding. Was in Town for the annual Sweet Tea Festival. Always eat at local business while on a road trip. Bexley is conveniently located in old Down Town with easy parking. Was greeted and seated immediately. My waitress arrived soon after and took a drink order. She came back and explained some specials of the day and gave me a few minutes to decide on menu. I ordered the lobster roll which came with a small dish of pickled vegetables. The lobster came on a house made thick piece of bread slight down center. All tasted good. So this is a trendy type restaurant, nice decor, attentive staff, food presentation, not large food portions. It's nice to experience this every once in while. read more

Having never visited Summerville, when we rolled into town for an overnight, we checked our trusty Yelp. Alas, there were no spots within walking distance of our hotel so we chose Bexley's. As it turned out, it was a good choice. The restaurant features a small outdoor door seating area, and a cozy, pleasant indoor ambiance. We sat at the raw bar, but past on the bi-valves, heartedly enjoyed by all of our bar neighbors. Instead, we started with some good old, southern deep fried okra. Bexley served up a generous portion of baby okra, nicely prepared and garnished with with some tasty condiments and whipped goat cheese. We ate every last one! For our entrées, my wife had the poke bowl with shrimp. I know she would order this again, even though she is not that fond of shrimp; I had the fish of the day, which happened to be grilled tilefish atop a creamy risotto. I have to admit, I didn't closely study the description so I wasn't sure what was in the sauce. Turns out it may have been pieces of squash and apples. This isn't your typical "Italian" prepared risotto. it's a bit creamier and much richer. I gave my wife a bite and she didn't like it. She tasted something bitter in the sauce. The fish was mild and prepared well. This is a dish I probably wouldn't go back for, but it was well prepared and artfully presented. All in all Bexley's was a good choice.
