I wanted to share some honest feedback after my most recent visit. I have been coming to your restaurant for the past seven years and have always enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Unfortunately, my experience this week left me very disappointed. I met my girlfriend, who drove from Tennessee to Georgia, and I drove from Florida so we could catch up over dinner. We also had a third friend with us. Our bill was over $200, and we were still talking after finishing our meal when a new server came to our table and told us our time was up and we needed to leave. This happened at around 7:00 PM. We ended up having to continue our conversation outside while dealing with mosquitoes, which was uncomfortable and frustrating. When I called the next day, the manager explained that this was simply the restaurant's policy. While I understand that every business has its rules, the way the situation was handled made me feel unvalued as a long-time customer. I've been coming to Sunbury Crab Company since around 2018-2019, and it's still one of my favorite hidden gems. Tucked away on the marsh, it has a peaceful, secluded feel you just can't find anywhere else. Reservations are a must, especially if you want to catch the best views. The food is always fantastic, with some dishes changing seasonally to keep things fresh. My go-to is the seafood platter--always delicious and cooked perfectly. The Bloody Marys are spot-on, and don't skip dessert--it's just as memorable as the main meal. Dining is in a boho beach-style hut with open-air seating, roll-up plastic "windows," high tables, regular tables, and a bar area. There are even a few TVs if you want to catch a game. The service has never disappointed, and every visit feels like a relaxed getaway. We had a wonderful waitress, Jade and all the food was delicious. Our table had fried oysters and fries with cucumber salad, Fired Redfish with tomato/okra/rice stew & Chicken sandwich and fries. I felt like the restaurant was penny an nickeling with the $1. water, $1. slice cheese, $1. honey mustard, $1. buffalo sauce & 4% cr card fee. INCREDIBLE!!! We loved it! Friends suggested and we fortunately tried it. Don't pass this up even if you follow your GPS like we did and ventured down a six mile dirt road!! lol! Not kidding!!! Well worth the journey! My scallops were phenomenal and the cream corn teamed up with the best collard greens I've had in a while. Sunbury was a massive disappointment. We made reservations for the porch a week ago and were very excited to go. We were texted 3 days later to change our reservation time and did so without any argument. We arrived 15 minutes before our reservation and were told to wait and grabbed a beer. Waited another 30 minutes for the owner Elaine to come over to us and say that the people at our table ordered dessert and we needed to sit at the bar. We were sat facing the bar and a wall. Once we sat we wanted the seafood platter and were told that they just sold out. They had it when our reservation should have sat us. I stated that I was really disappointed because we had made a reservation and were really looking forward to this and the owner Elaine told me that because we were a party of 2 we were not a priority and that tables of 4 and 6 were. I said that we made a reservation and why make a reservation for the porch if we couldn't have our reservation honored. She stated that it was busy and the bigger tables took priority. I turned around and there were 7 empty tables in the porch and one in the area that was behind the bar. The rudeness, lack of customer service and kindness will 100% guarantee that we will never be back. I understand being busy but we had a reservation and we were treated like us asking for our reservation to be upheld was a nuisance and unacceptable. There was never a let me accommodate you for anything or any sort of kindness given. Just you weren't priory because it was only 2 of you. Beyond that, I could have made our overpriced dinner at my house. I am someone who goes out of my way to give positive reviews when deserved, but this was just awful and insulting. Do better. Came in town from outside of Raleigh NC. This place was highly recommended and it did not disappoint! From booking the reservation, to the ambiance and the food, everything was an awesome experience! We had a great seat facing outside to the water , it was beautiful! The service was the best I've had in a very long time! We had Ahi Seared Tuna to start, the drinks were great, Seafood platter pictured, the crab and Fried Fish Tacos with tomato okra rice was all delicious! Not pictured, you should definitely get dessert! We had the pineapple upside down cake with ice cream and blueberry crunch with ice cream. I highly recommend this place! Sunbury Crab Company should be ashamed of the way they treated us. My fiancé, who is a dark-skinned Puerto Rican man, and I drove over three hours because he was excited to show me the beauty of his coastal hometown and share what was supposed to be a special evening together. We made reservations in advance specifically for a window seat so we could enjoy the ocean view. Despite having reservations, we were ignored for nearly three hours while white couples and groups who arrived after us were repeatedly seated first. The pattern was impossible not to notice. When they finally addressed us, they refused to honor our reservation and instead attempted to place us in the back and outside areas where there was little to no service. What made this even more disturbing was that throughout the night we observed that the back sections were overwhelmingly where Black guests were being seated, while white guests were consistently placed in the better dining areas and view seating. This was not a mistake. This was not "restaurant chaos." This was repeated behavior over the course of an entire evening, and it felt deliberate, humiliating, and discriminatory. I am a civil rights advocate and integration coach, and I know the difference between poor service and racial bias. What happened at this restaurant deserves accountability. Racism does not always come with slurs or open hostility. Sometimes it looks exactly like this -- being ignored, separated, deprioritized, and quietly pushed aside while others are welcomed openly. People deserve to know how they may be treated here before spending their money. A business that profits from the public should be held to a higher standard of fairness and dignity for everyone. This place is in the middle of nowhere. However, once you get there you realize why it has such a great reputation. The atmosphere is kind of jimmy buffet margaritaville plus sports bar. It's open air and right off water. My wife immediately said we had to bring our family and friends die the location and atmosphere alone. I'm glad we made reservations (through Yelp!) ans we walked up and we're immediately seated despite many people waiting to get walked in. The staff was friendly and service was good. The blue crab was good, admittedly I don't have a lot of history with crab so hard to compare it. The tuna tower was crazy good I could have just eaten three of them as a poke bowl.....and maybe will next time. The entrees of steamed seafood platter and shrimp nachos were very good. The steamed seafood platter was as advertised. The shrimp nachos were delicious. They make a satisfying entree even though they are advertised as a appetizer. So this place is a study of contrasts. We chose the spot for their location, outdoor seating, good reviews and "dog friendly" (per the marina website, not Yelp). The location is indeed charming; nicely broken-in and off the beaten path in a lovely salt marsh. That being said...apparently the marina is ok with dogs but the restaurant is not. They are NOT KIDDING about no dogs. My fault, I didn't see it on Yelp, and thought that with the marsh, docks, outdoor patio etc. dogs would be okay and I was WRONG. (We did try to call ahead to verify the dog could come, but got a message saying the business was not open about 11:50 am.) We were treated poorly at first, the woman at the front was clearly frazzled, and seems to think we had ignored a "no dogs" sign and was very short with us saying we had to order our food to go and eat at nearby picnic tables if we wanted to stay. She later apologized and explained their policy but unfortunately the damage had been done and we were not impressed. On to the food. More conflict. Our food took a while (about 35 minutes when they told us 15) but was nicely cooked, the shrimp in my shrimp tacos were no kidding delicious--sitting seasoned but naked on their tortilla. The sour cream packet and container of onion and and cilantro were on the side. My husband's tuna tacos were excellent and the shrimp nachos featured more perfectly cooked shrimp. This is a bit of a gem in the rough if you aren't from or staying immediately in the area. Would I drive out of Savannah to eat here? Personally, yes, I would, but make sure you read the rest of the review before you decide. If you do, don't forget to call ahead. I grew up going to beach and waterfront places a lot as a kid. They were all along the east coast. This reminds me strongly of the best of those. Crabs (blue) can be ordered a la carte in 4's and they bring you folded over butcher paper and a mallet. You can get just about anything fried and you'll have folks clearly on their night out in fine clothes next to t-shirts and jeans. They do have some signage reminding patrons that they need to have some basic articles of clothing on to get in. They have a decent selection of drinks from cheaper beers to a decent array of mixed drinks. It is fairly open inside and there is some outdoor seating. You are very aware you are on the water and they do have docks. It has that feel of being used and has a well worn, but also continually maintained appearance. Some of my favorite touches were the sea shells for sale (all fairly large) and the odd habit that when you make a reservation, they seem to assign you to a table, so if others show up after you with the same reservation time and get seated first, that is why. The place is family run with even kids who can't see over the tables helping out. Our table's previous occupants were taking a bit longer than expected and they checked in on us repeatedly. The food was really good. The staff was great and this place is as much an experience as anything else, so the combination of the great food and the pleasing, at least to me, environment gave me a level of satisfaction and relaxation I rarely experience, especially on the road. read more

Friendly staff, they check off all the best qualities you want in a restaurant. I didn't taste them this visit, but saw the steaks being served and they looked great too, also the fried oysters and fish and chips. An original. We came by boat and stayed at there marina. My parents insist on eating here everytime in town. The food and service is consistently good and the service is always great.You also can't beat the view. The portions are large and the seafood is fresh. I have a friend who inspects seafood for the state and says this is one of the best places to get local seafood. Our favorites on the menu are the friend flounder and the garlic shrimp. My only wish is that most of the patrons here are not following Covid protocol so you will find lots of people not wearing masks.
