Had surgery with Dr Henkin several years ago after years of dealing with back pain. Surgery & recovery went very well. Have to agree with other reviews that scheduling has issues with long wait times but not unusual with excellent drs. He does take time & explains things well. Was referred here by my prinary care physician who highly recommended them. From initial call for an appointment the staff were very courteous and helpful. Appointments are mostly late afternoon and evening. Waiting area is very pleasant with adequate seating, a television and updated magazines. The one negative is the waiting area was very cold. Check in process for a new patient was simple and fast. Had about a half hour wait past appointment time but the MD spent loads of time with me so the wait was well worth it. The physican explained the MRI thoroughly, my options, recovery, risks and what could be expected. Medical appointments are never fun but they are a necessity so when the experience goes well it certainly makes life easier. This clinic is definitely well run, professional and thorough. read more

First I have to tell you that when you make an appointment you will be waiting at least 3 to 4 weeks. Then once you show up to your appointment you may have to be rescheduled or wait 2 to 3 hours due to over scheduling. Malpractice Alert: I requested a formal report of my visit with Dr. Henkin which I received today. There are three pages. 1 page describes detailed physical examination actions performed on me including basic checks like heart rate, height, weight, etc. it also included detailed tests performed on me by Dr. Henkin to include an array of checks on my neck area arms, legs, knees, etc. NONE OF THAT HAPPENED. IT IS A COMPLETE LIE AND IS MORE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH THAT ITS EXTREMELY HURTFUL AND DISRESPECTFUL. I WILL PURSUE LEGAL ACTION AND INCLUDE THIS REVIEW ON EVERY OUTLET POSSIBLE. When I met Dr. Henkin about my neck pain he spent about five to seven minutes with me and did not provide any useful information as to why I was experiencing pain and discomfort including numbness in my left forearm down to my fingertips. He simply looked at my MRI from 6 months prior and stated that there is no nerve impingement that he can see. When I asked him to explain why I am experiencing these issues he looked me dead in the eyes and shrugged his shoulders. He then suggested that I pursue aerobics exercises or swimming in order to strengthen the neck muscles around my cervical spine. I have a fully herniated degenerating C-5 disc and I have a additional two discs above that which are bulging at this point. He did not perform any physical examination so that I could show him exactly where I was experiencing pain. He was very impersonal and I'm glad I did not take him up on the offer to exercise. I had completed two rounds of shots in my neck which were terribly painful, two months of physical therapy and ice/hot prescription ointments on my neck including medication by prescription. He was my fourth opinion at that point. I recently got a fifth opinion and all of the orthopedic surgeons and neurological surgeons agreed that I needed to get a discectomy at least on my C-5 disk. Furthermore, they also advised me not to do any activities due to the risk of being paralyzed or experiencing some type of paralysis at any given moment. read more

I've heard that this doctor is amazing and I've read the poor reviews and now have had the experience. I haven't experienced anything bad from the doctor but whomever is running his practice is doing poorly. The wait times, calls, scheduling, anything to do with office management, is horrific. I had back surgery 2 weeks ago and need a refill on my pain meds cause Tylenol doesn't work. We were told the office is moving to a new location and the answering service is taking their calls. I've managed many doctors offices and this is not acceptable. I questioned going with this doctor myself but having an exceptional doctor to do surgery was more important to me. I also have my follow up appointment next week. Wonder if they plan on calling me to inform me that they've moved. The doctor needs someone who knows how to manage a practice. Yes, staff is nice but I'ld rather have an office that is managed appropriately so the wait times, calls, and patients needs are met. You can't expect the doctor to do it all. read more

This place is RIDICULOUS, it's now my second apt here- the first time I waited 2-3 hours to even get into a waiting room. This time my apt was at 3 pm, Ive been in the waiting room for 2 hours just to be told that Dr. Henkin won't be able to see me until 5:45 or 6pm. I'm not even sure if he's a good doctor because at my last apt with him where he so graciously squeezed me in was at 8:30pm and he was half asleep after admittedly having 'already been up since 5am for a 6am surgery'. My last apt he spoke to me for 10-15 mins before referring me out for a CT scan....How are there no other qualified spine doctors in Brandon? read more

Absolutely 5 star performace. Dr. Henkin is a gifted surgeon. After weeks of crawling because I could not bear the pain of standing much less walking I consulted with Dr. Henkin and it was a decision I will never regret. Through a very small incision he located and removed a Synovial Cyst that was between my 4th and 5th lumbar vertebrae. Immediately upon recovery form anesthesia all pain was gone. When I moved from the bed to a chair I was literally afraid to put any weight on my legs. No worry, ALL pain was gone. I'll never hesitate to recommend Dr. Henkin and if I ever require spinal surgery my first call will be to Dr. Henkin. The only improvement I could offer would be a much warmer waiting room. read more

I spoke to several nurses at Brandon Regional hospital who said that Dr Henkin is an excellent surgeon but has a very poor bedside manner. I first met Dr Henkin at the hospital before abdominal surgery and noticed right away that he kept interrupting me and didn't want to listen to anything I had to say. I tried to warn him about swelling in the infected area and was later told by a nurse who had been there during the operation that the infection had burst out all over him. Neither he nor any of his staff met with my family after the surgery, which is usually common courtesy after an operation. Hospitalized again a few days later, I was told that Dr Henkin must evaluate me before I could be released. The nursing staff called his office many times over three days and a different doctor finally released me from the hospital. I waited over 2 1/2 hours at my follow-up appointment at his office. He didn't show up. I never went back. read more

My sister in law was referred to Dr. Le with a previously undiagnosed high cervical fracture. He looked at her films and immediately knew what she needed. He made hospital arrangements before we even finished filling out the office paperwork. It was a long road for her but Dr. Le and his PA, Taylor, made the process easier with their excellent care and kind manner. Waiting in the office was never longer than 15 minutes. Today, she is healed and pain free from her neck injury, ready to return to work. We cannot be happier and have no hesitation referring anyone in need of a neurosurgeon to Dr. Le and his office. read more

My mother was treated by Dr.Henkin, words can't explain how great he is and how much he cares for his pts.His compassion is so heart felt. She is 75 years old and could not stand up to walk, she had been like this for over 4 yrs. He did her back surgery and now she is walking standing up. It is so wonderful to see my moms face as she walks, not the top of her head. My self and family cant thank him enough for what he has given back to my mom and her life.
