Came in on 12/16/25 for lunch with my beautiful wife and adorable little daughter, this small cafe boasts several tables inside and couple tables outside. The waitress sat us down pretty quickly. I ordered the Classic California Crepes and my wife got the Paris Crepe. The Classic California Crepes are stuffed ham in housemade crepes with tomato and avocado slices, and on top poached eggs with housemade hollandaise sauce and sprinkled with paprika. First bite and wow! It was delicious. Shared some of my food with my toddler and she loved it too. Thank you, Nevada City Classic Cafe. This family business was featured in the Hallmark movie "The Christmas Card!" They have the most beautiful mural by Della Heywood depicting the charming town of Nevada City with festive lights and garland all around! Staff are very friendly and attentive as well! If you're looking for a solid, cozy cafe with classic diner style breakfast, this place is perfect. It's small and if it's busy you need to put your name on the wait-list inside, but the service and atmosphere were so welcoming and accommodating. It seems like they're very used to have tourists, the waitress offered a magazine and brochure for us to take to help us with our visit in the area. There's a small bathroom in the back, you have to walk though the kitchen. Everything we ordered was solid. Just know when you order the fruit crepes, they come with whipped cream inside. read more

Very solid breakfast/brunch menu in an area where there are surprisingly few choices. I had a scramble that was "not runny" as requested, but not overdone as frequently happens. The extra-crispy hash browns were extra crispy. My companion gave a thumbs up to the vegetarian "sausage" links and the waffle. They buy their coffee locally from Caroline's in Grass Valley, which I appreciate. Our server, Angie, was very friendly and efficient. It's a tiny cafe, so there may be a wait, but there is low stool seating at the counter and a really fun mural to spend some time checking out. read more

After waiting 45 minutes for a table. Understandably a busy day, I observed a family walk in to try to claim an open table who had arrived after us. I asked how much longer for our table, she told me we were next. The other family came in and started to try to help bus the table, so I walked back in. Mentioned to that woman we were next, she claimed the same. I went to clarify with the hostess, She said we were after them, so I made mention that maybe not to tell us both we were next as that causes frustration for all. I told her I understood and I went back outside. The hostess then came out, looked at us and told us she wasn't going to do this today and to find somewhere else. I get when you are busy, but customer service and consistency goes a long way. Just because you are stressed and Busy doesn't give permission to behave this way. They open at 9am and close at 230pm (i think they are closed on Wednesdays). The place reminds me of a true diner! Its casual yet artful ambience fits in with the Nevada City vibe. My boyfriend and i wanted breakfast and i haven't been here in years so we decided to give it a try. GLAD we did...breakfast was good but not over filling...2 eggs with hash browns and 2 pancakes. Also added crispy bacon on the side. Pancakes were nice and fluffy, and crispy bacon is exactly what we wanted! Coffee was nice and strong and tasty. They also have mimosas and beer and wine. The location is great as its right off the freeway and you can walk to all the shops! This is also where they filmed the movie "The Christmas Card". Great experience..quick service. We had a good breakfast here! The servers were extremely kind and accommodating, which made the experience very pleasant. The food itself was decent, though not quite as hearty as we expected -- most meals didn't include a meat protein unless you added it on, and the cheese omelet was literally just cheese and egg, more like a flat dish. It was the Saturday before Christmas 2023 and my father decided to take me to breakfast in Nevada City, California in-order pick up a few last minute gifts items for mom. Nevada City Classic Cafe is a charming local cafe which I enjoyed for their service, breakfast sections and local diner ambiance with reasonable prices. Locals and visitors alike were generous in providing information regarding the establishment and Nevada City itself. Yes, Hallmark's movie the "Christmas Card" was filmed at the cafe. Like many visitors I too took a few snapshots of the infamous mural. Meanwhile, during my visit the servers were attentive and ensured everything was just right in the way the food was prepared and coffee remained hot. I enjoyed a bacon breakfast burrito with a side of potatoes and decaffeinated coffee with cream to drink. Portions were large and I only ate half of the breakfast burrito. I look the remaining portion to go. Complements to the chiefs given the food was delicious and filling . I am already looking forward to my next visit give the place is known to moviegoers for their "crispy curly fries. The only downside of the establishment is the need to update their restroom. Otherwise this is an excellent place to observe others, enjoy a delightful conversation, and have an enjoyable meal as a solo individual and/or with family and friends. My husband and I ate at the Nevada City Classic Cafe twice last weekend and couldn't have enjoyed it more. We were extremely impressed with the chef Kendra, who cooks with love. Dave had the Huevos Rancheros and was impressed with the vegetarian chili. When we mentioned it, Kendra took time to write out the recipe for us! I had the mushroom crepe and it was very nice. The next day, we both had biscuits and gravy and loved loved the gravy. Our server Kaylie couldn't have been nicer and she was very helpful in helping us decide the best dishes. When Kaylie realized we'd seen and loved The Christmas Card, she set up our photo op with the photo of the movie and offered us little tidbits about how the owner Shawn had been a child in the movie, etc. All this to say we will definitely go back. I was talking to the cook about the fact that we were on our way home from a vacation in Downieville and the cook came out when it slowed down and played the guitar and sang us a song she wrote about Juanita. After having breakfast and paying our tab, while standing out in front of the business, we were angrily confronted by the older waitress about our tip. When we realized our mistake in our calculations and wanted to correct our error, the waitress became extremely rude to us and walked away. When we went back inside to increase the tip, the woman continued to be extremely rude. As we were standing at the counter to add to the tip, the older waitress forcibly bumped into us as she passed by, which I believe was intentional. We did give our waitress, who did a fabulous job serving us, her well deserved tip. We apologized to her and thanked her. We then left and will not be back. The older waitress was extremely unprofessional and rude and should have handled the situation differently as it was an honest mistake. I've been up here for over 20 years and have NEVER been treated like this by a business! read more

i was there on Dec 7th and witnessed the two prior reviews of the employee basically coming out on the street to tell the next party to get lost. so very unprofessional. it was a busy day due to the Christmas fair but the staff somehow didn't know how to handle having a wait list and communicate to everyone waiting the process. this doesn't seem too much to ask. when i asked approx wait time after i had been waiting for close to 45 min i was told they had zero clue but if we waited around they would get to us. once we were called , it was after 3 parties were called that had left, so it seems people don't stick around due to the un welcoming way the wait list works. the food was fine, nothing special but more about the ambiance of the cafe and location . would i eat here again next time? no - one and done. if you come on a busy weekend expect to wait close to an hour and have a very disorganized way to doing a wait list and process to seat everyone read more

Pleasant experience We stopped at this cafe for lunch on a Sunday. The restaurant was not busy throughout the entire time we were there. We chose the seat by the window... the restaurant was featured in the 2006 Hallmark TV movie "The Christmas Card" between 9 to 11 minutes into the film LoL! and that table seating by the window was featured first during the 2-min restaurant scene. Hubby had the 2 eggs with sausage patties and hash browns. No complaints from him. The two ladies, one server and one behind the counter, were nice and friendly and we were well taken care of. The food, service and ambiance was excellent. My wife and I came for breakfast, despite our trepidations due to Yelp reviews over the past year or so. I had a veggie omelette with country potatoes with sourdough toast. I have similar breakfasts at numerous restaurants, and feel the NC Cafe is in the top 1%. The service was very attentive and friendly, and heard other encounters with nearby people. The cook was familiar to me from other visits over the years and I paused to compliment his cooking as I was on my way to the clean and accessible restroom. I will finish by saying that I look forward to coming back during my next visit to Nevada City. Five Stars! read more

Haven't been here in a while and not sure what changed but our food was terrible. I got served French toast burnt and hidden with powdered sugar. They re-made it but it was soggy. Looking for the BEST classic breakfast in Nevada City? Look no further. We visit Nevada City 2-3 times a year to get away from the city and noise and enjoy some fresh air, some great hiking, the charm of this great town and always some great eating. For breakfast we have discovered (over trial and error over the years) that Nevada City Classic Cafe is the best! They accommodate requests with ease and grace and make the best crepes I have had outside of France. I normally do not order crepes in the US but these are fantastic. I highly recommend the Paris Crepe as well as Genevieve's Special. Need it gluten-free? No problem, they have your back with buckwheat crepes. Special shout out to Caley who always manages to be our server. She is sweet, attentive and always a joy to see. All the ladies and the kitchen gents always make it a great experience! read more

Tourists, DO NOT go here for breakfast. Go to The Place on South Pine. The NC Classic Cafe is a grungy place with a disgusting filthy kitchen serving crap food. I'm surprised it hasn't been shut down. I ate at the counter and was surprised to see the cook working in this tiny kitchen trying to churn out orders, and when I went to the bathroom I saw that the space I couldn't see next to the grill was even more disgusting. Meanwhile around the corner, The Place on Pine is this clean, friendly place serving much better food for the same prices. But I guess the Cafe is on the main drag so out-of-towners find it more easily. Too bad--there's a much better meal to be had just steps away. read more
