It's a dive bar. Went here with a friend who was playing pool. The bartenders were nice, and the service was fine. The bathroom is pretty much straight out of a rowdy kegger in a field or barn type of situation, and definitely not where you'd want to be should you have to sit down. The atmosphere in the bar is cool, but pretty dated (which is also kind of cool) ....its very much about pool and darts or sitting at the bar. There is no food offered but you can easily get to go food over at Pete's Pizza and bring it back inside the Nevada Club (which apparently everyone does) so that solves that problem if you get hungry. Love the outside appearance and neon sign. It is a great piece of Nevada County charm. read more

Home of the most disgusting bathroom in Nevada County! This is a bar. It has few frills, and you're only in here to imbibe and/or play pool. This might more properly be described as a dive bar, if you wanted to get technical about it since there's not much in the way of ambiance or anything besides alcohol on offer. They have TVs for distraction, but this isn't a place like BWW or an actual sports-themed bar where you would head to watch a game. Most of the time the TVs are just tuned to some local channel. The crowd tends to the rougher, less hewn corners of the community. Expect the bikers, trimmers, burn-outs, and random winos. You might catch a random tourist in here, but they are definitely the exception to the rule. They have a spot out back for smoking. read more

So I really like this bar's atmosphere and the pool tables are always awesome. The beer choices were on point, and the bartender was very friendly. Why two stars then? Well unfortunately a bar needs to have good cocktails to be a good bar, this is where their issue is at. The booze is either a very light pour or is watered down... We tried a couple different cocktails and all tasted like they only had a mixer in it with no alcohol. Too bad too because it seems to be their only problem, get that fixed and this would be a five star bar! read more

Stopped in for a drink twice during our visit to Grass Valley. The bartender was super nice and gave us a few pointers about Grass Valley. It's a place that is obviously the local watering hole and I liked that she hushed one of her regulars (he was slightly loud and perhaps a bit inebriated) who was trying to interrupt our conversation yet still maintained a friendly rapport with us AND him!! On my 2nd visit I partook in some leftover St. Patty's Day jello shots that weren't quite set but hell, 4 for $1?? Yes, please. Your two male bartenders refused my military ID because they're improperly trained by the owners, or too lazy to google simple California laws. My active duty military ID has never been refused in any sort of establishment, especially in my hometown. You broke several laws and held a bias against a female which will be handled. read more

I can't even imagine giving a place a zero star because first off that can't even happen. The bartender was rude disrespectful towards my wife and proceeded to say that it was her fault for not giving her a tip because the last three times that we went in there her drinks were absolutely disgusting and we were greeted very rudely. Unfortunately I don't know her name but I will say this, it is not worth it to go there. Go give your business elsewhere. read more

This bar is very unique. Is a good bar somewhere to a cheer style bar. Where everyone knows your name and remembers your drink order. They have several pool tables, I dart board, whose ball table and a ping-pong table. Great for friends are just getting a drink for yourself. I frequent this bar regularly, and it truly reflects the feel of an old school mining town bar straight down to the photos of donkeys tied up out front, the nostalgia is unmatchable for grass valley. Good prices, fun bartenders, great holiday events. Regulars are never diassapointed. read more

The bartenders have less class than the customers which puts them in the negative on a points scale. I've been over charged and short changed more than once by the low class workers even though I'm a descent tipper. A drunk loser got in a woman's face over a pool table and cussed at her and she was asked to leave. No common sense or chivalry in that place. read more

You know what the most brilliant thing about having a bar lit with fluorescent lights is (pun intended, people)? There's no trickery of light when you're looking at people. You see that scar and that tattoo with blown-out lines and you see that there's a jukebox turning heads and which balls are left on the pool table and that drinks are coming at you fast. Then when you finally black out, it happens so clearly, so decisively, there's almost a click on the soundtrack when you try to put the whole reel back together the next day. This place is a dump, plain and simple. Gross, dingy, poorly-lit, shady, sketchy crowd. To top it all off, there is a particular bartender in there who does not seem to like women and cuts them off from the bar, but allows men drink to excess. A few months ago some (male) friends of mine had been drinking there one night, and I met up with them later. I have a physical disability which causes me to walk with a limp. I walked up to the bartender and ordered my very first drink for the night. Immediately and rudely, she told me that she was not going to serve me because I was "wobbling." I tried to explain to her that I have a limp, but she was not having any of it. She told me that I was too drunk and that I looked "cross-eyed." (Easily the meanest thing a stranger has ever said to me). When I told her how rude that was, she told me to leave. Meanwhile, I kid you not, a gang of rowdy, clearly drunk men were behind me and one jumped on the table making a racket. The bartender did not seem to have any issue with them. The only other female in our group besides myself also got rudely cut off the same night while our male friends were able to order drink after drink and not one of them got cut off. I have talked to other people in the area and apparently I'm not the only woman that this has happened to. Some female friends and acquaintances have had similar experiences with this specific bartender as well. I understand that it is the law to not serve someone who is inebriated, but I was not drunk. Also, even giving her the benefit of the doubt, even if she was just being overly cautious, she was SO absolutely rude and insulting in her delivery that it was humiliating and it made me feel awful. Nasty bartenders aside, this place is still the worst. The drinks are over-priced, and it kind of has an atmosphere that makes you feel like you're going to get robbed or jumped. I would NEVER go to this place again, even if it was the only bar in GV. Go to Cirino's if you're looking for fairly priced drinks and good atmosphere (and most of all, polite staff). read more
